âEdgeworth sir, weâve finished sweeping the scene for any potential DNA!â
âVery good. Bring that back to the lab. I can handle the rest from here.âÂ
âRight away sir!âÂ
My name is Miles Edgeworth. I am the Chief Prosecutor for my district back in California. But right now, I am perhaps the furthest one can get from there. Having been abroad for business reasons, I found myself once again thrust into a mystery that is far deeper and more complex than anyone could imagine. While I at first was merely a bystander to this heinous crime, I was given investigative authority by the local precinct after they learned of my identity and my previous exploits. I donât know if I should be thankful or not. Regardless, I shall do everything I can to find the truth to this case. No matter how dark that truth may be.Â
âExcuse me.â He said to a nearby officer. âThis island is isolated from the outside world, correct? Then may I ask how you received the distress call?âÂ
The officer was a bit startled by Edgeworthâs sudden questioning but quickly composed himself and answered. âWeâre not quite sure, sir. It just came in a few hours ago. And while the caller was clearly distressed, we were unable to verify their identity.â
âI see. Well, if any new details come up. Be sure to let me know immediately.âÂ
âOf course! Leave it to me, sir!âÂ
Edgeworth closed his eyes and thought about the current situation. None of it seemed to add up. An unknown caller. A murder on a school island that was cut off from the rest of the world. Not to mention the fact that the ferry he was on was mysteriously diverted to the island as well. He still didnât have any answers for that. But it almost felt like someone wanted here. Especially with how easy the police gave him control. Sir, he was a bit famous. But that didnât explain them caving as easily as they did. There was far more to this situation than what appeared and he was going to get to the bottom of it.Â
He decided the first step would be to examine the body more closely. To say it was a ghastly sight would be an understatement. The poor girl had been both strangled and stabbed. But the thing that made him perplexed was her expression.
Just why does she look so happy?Â
For some reason, the very scene sent chills down his spine. He hadnât felt this way since he had dealt with that smuggling ring a few years back.Â
Iâd better keep my guard up. Whoever killed this girl might still be around and from the general vibe Iâm getting, they very well might be willing to kill everyone here in order to silence us.
He turned his attention to the building that was situated quite a distance away.Â
This is a school island. That means there are kids here. If thereâs a deranged killer on the loose, itâd be smart to evacuate these kids as quickly as possible. But that just might be what theyâre banking on. Perhaps theyâre even one of them.Â
Edgeworth found himself roused from his thinking by the voice of an officer.
âEdgeworth sir! Weâve found one of the kids that goes to school. Would you like to speak with her?âÂ
He turned to him and nodded. âOf course.âÂ
It didnât take him long to deduce who the student was and thus he approached her.
âPardon my forwardness. But I am Chief Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth and I am the one who was put in charge of this case. Are there any details youâd be willing to share with me? Any details that you think might lead to the truth being unveiled to us?âÂ
