asks u about the "june fic where itâs like archive 81 and she talks to the reader through the fucking video tapes or something"
itâs a christmas miracle. a quick surface level summary of archive 81: you have dan (one of the main protagonists) who takes on a job recovering video tapes because he wants to find out what happened to the building and what happened to his father. the building was set on fire but none of the bodies were ever found, leading him to believe they might still be alive. he is sent to this building in the woods to recover the tapes, where he has a series of dreams involving melody (the other protagonist). melody is doing a project for her phd where she records the apartment building (called the visser) and learns of its history via in person interviews and research. she was one of the victims who died in the fire. she and dan meet in their shared dreams, they talk briefly, and some of the pieces of conversation are referenced by melody in the tapes (which shouldnât be possible).
ok to the june stuff
AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! ok so i havenât see the whole thing yet (im on episode 5 now) but i am so interested. i think june (i still think penelope is a better name but for claritys sake i will refer to her as june so ppl know who im talking about) being able to watch someone through a tape and know them, really know them, when she feels like everyone else in her life is an imposter is such an interesting concept to me. sheâs hired to restore these tapes (donât know by who yet!) because she wants to find out what happened at that apartment. in the original it was because dan lost his family in the fire, but i donât know what it would be for june (maybe losing jade/dadbert i have no idea).
but in these tapes she gets to see them, but not as she knew them. theyâre not the people she thought they were, something was obviously happening behind the scenes that she never knew about. that incentive draws her in to keep investigating, but soon she starts having these vivid dreams that feel real and theyâre unexplainable but she reaches out for help anyway. she asks her friend (probably dave) to research and see if he can find any answers. dave is later offered to work for (the mystery man or maybe jake harley) as a spy but he doesnât take the deal because june is his friend.
june becomes super invested in this personâs (readerâs) (i feel like a dork when i call them that tho) life, right, because theyâre the one behind all the recordings and she feels attached to them and their struggle. so when she sees them in her dreams she tries to connect with them, but eventually things start to go awry (june has some of their things and they see that and they freak out because that should be impossible!!! and they are like what the fuck is going on??) and june tries to explain that she only wants to help, though it sort of falls on deaf ears. reader tries everything they can afterwards to find out whatâs going on.
alongside melody there is also her friend anabelle which iâm thinking could be roxy or rose in this fic?? but anyway anabelle receives a jar of paint from one of the neighbors and starts becoming obsessed with painting, convinced she is channeling spirits when she makes art. she starts to go off the deep end a little bit convinced the place is special and that she needs to stay at the visser and eventually she has an outburst about always being smothered by melody. i think that could definitely be rose for sure.
omg this is all so hard to explain idk if youâve seen it but you should watch archive 81 if you want to⌠if you have the time⌠holy mackerel. it is good.
this isnât all but i need to watch more
"You sit here and you watch someone, all of their intimate moments and experiences, and you think you know them?" <- INSANE LINE!!!!! And then the man tries to convince dan was there one who started the fire ugh!!!!! i know there spoilers but itâs so good and thereâs a bunch of stuff that happens that i havenât even mentioned. i imagine june in such a vulnerable situation and something just clicks with me. do you understand!!!! do you get it!!!!! do you know what iâm saying!!!!

Warnings: death, me not giving you the queenâs name lol
Wow, youâre still here! Well, I suppose you want me to get on with the stories, right? Okay, okay! Calm down! Before I start, however, I think you might want to know what youâre going to read. This is a story about a queen and a mother who lost everything they had in one day.
Horrified screams could be heard. The streets, bathed in blood. Buildings were on fire. Destruction was everywhere.Â
The queen, last of her kind, fled Zarmina on a ship with whoever had survived the attack. She now stood, barely breathing, leaning against a wall, looking back at her destroyed home with tears in her eyes and a pained expression.Â
-âMy queen, we must do something! We canât just leave Zarmina! What if someone else managed to survive?â Callisto, the queenâs trusted advisor, came closer once he made sure the ship was secure and they werenât being followed.Â
The queen slumped down, not having the energy to keep herself standing anymore. Callisto flung himself forward, catching her barely alive body before it hit the cold, metal floor of the ship. She rested her hear on his shoulder, life leaving her more and more with every breath she took.
-âOh no...â Callisto said, barely above a whisper. This couldnât be happenning, he thought. He had spent his whole life serving the queen. He had been there when she lost her family and friends in the Great War. He stood next to her despite all the hardships she went through. And from a simple servant he became her closest friend. That is why Callisto couldnât imagine a world in which she didnât exist. âHelp! Medic! We need a medic!â He yelled behind him, hoping it wasnât too late.
-âIt is okay. I have lived a long life. I believe my time has finally come.â She said with a gentle, albeit sad smile and reached a hand up, pushing a few strands of his dark hair to the side.Â
-âDonât say that. PleaseâŚâ Callisto uttered with blurred vision. He leaned into her touch. This gesture brought out old memories from when he was still young and unruly. Memories of the woman that laid in his arms, fussing around him, most of time times because of an injury he had gained during one of his âadventuresâ as the other servants used to call them. Memories of her, fixing his clothes before an important event. Memories that made his heart ache seeing her like this, so fragile, like she could break from the smallest movement.
He was about to say something when the queen held her hand up, silencing him. She was focused on something behind him. And when Callisto followed her gaze he saw a woman. A young woman with thorn clothes and patches of dirt covering her bright red skin, crying over a bundle in her arms. When he looked closer, he saw that what she was holding, was an infant, not more than a few months old perhaps. The child stood still, with closed eyes, not moving while its mother cried her eyes out above it.Â
With whatever energy she had left, the queen crawled closer to the woman, which jumped surprised when she felt a comforting hand of her shoulder. Turning around she was even more surprised to see that the queen was the one who had come to her aid.Â
A small crowd had gathered around them. Some there to help the queen as Callisto has demanded, others to see what caused their rulerâs interest.
The queen looked at the child and then back at its mother, wordlessly asking her if she could hold it. The woman hesitantly placed her dead baby girl in her leaderâs hands, surprising her yet aging with the gentleness with which she handled the infant.Â
Brushing her fingertips against the childâs temple, she help its head in her palm. Closing her eyes and leaning closer to the babe, a faint glow could be seen in the little spacethere was between them. At that, the mother of the infant gasped, covering her tearstained face with her hands, only her eyes peaking above her fingers.Â
-âI believe that it is quite clear that I wonât last much.â The queen said quietly, but her voice was carried above her people, reaching even the ones who couldnât see her. âFrom now forth, this shall be your queen.â She held the baby high, whose skin had started to warm up and regain its red hue identical to its motherâs. âProtect her, as she will one day lead you.â She handed the child back to its mother who pressed her little girl close to her chest and looked at her dying leader with gratitude and disbelief.
And with her last breaths she turned to a shocked Callisto who was on the verge of collapsing into a heap of tears much like the mother of the newly resurrected child.
-âCome here.â She beckoned him and he obliged, taking her in his arms. âPlease, donât cry. I want you to celebrate, for you now have a new queen. An opportunity for a new start.â
-âBut what good would this new start be if you arenât there to see it?â Callisto asked, barely managing to squeeze out the words through the lump in his throat.
The queenâs only answer was a gentle smile before her eyes closed, giving in to the sweet embace of death and her body going completely limp in his hands. A scream of agony left the manâs lips as he weeped above his queenâs dead body. She was everything to him, not only a leader, but a friend when he most needed one, a mother he never had, a ray of hope when everything seemed lost, a beacon of light which guided him through the darkness. She was the only family he had ever known. Losing her would have crushed him, if only she hadnât left behind a part of herself, an heir. But she did.
His purpose was to protect the queen and that was exactly what he planned to do. Swallowing his tears and sorrow, he gently laid her lifeless body down and stood up in front of the still crying woman only to kneel, looking at the child. Right then it opened its eyes, eliciting a gasp from everyone who could see the heartbreaking scene unfold. One of the infantâs eyes was a bright blue, much like its motherâs. But what caused the surprise was the childâs other eye. It had a golden hue, the same as the deceased queenâs. The babeâs eyes landed on Callisto and she laughed, as if she recognized him, and reached out her small hand towards him. With a pained expression, he extended his hand and a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips when the child grasped one of his fingers.
-âHello there, little one.â He whispered softly as if making any sound louder than that would scare her away.
The child, happy to have gained Callistoâs attention laughed and started chewing on his finger. Her mother, happy beyond belief, leaned down and planted a feathery kiss to her childâs temple.
-âMy little morning star. My little queen.â The woman said lovingly as she watched her baby.
