Hello!
I was just reading your pinned, and wondering, if you're willing to share, what dictation software you've had good experience with? Its something that would occasionally help me, but it ends up with so many typos or mistakes needing correction that Im overusing my hands anyway. /Do you have any other tips, diction, maybe speed, idk, that helps? Maybe theres a specific method to it?
Im trying to imagine what a blahaj costume looks like, it sounds cozy I think. Hope you have a great time with it :)
Hi!
I used two types of dictation software, I use dragon dictate on my laptop and the inbuilt Apple voice control on my phone and iPad. There are some differences between them but I find them about the same in terms of accuracy. The main difference is that Dragon is incredibly expensive
Using them is definitely one of these things that gets easier over time, When I first started using them five or six years ago it was really hard with a steep Learning curve. There were a lot of commands to memorise and you have to learn to talk very differently than you would if you're talking to a person. I find it's most accurate when you speak with absolutely no emotion or Tone, like you're reading out loud the most boring text you can think of. I found this easier for academic texts, but it's still weird when I'm writing social media posts using contractions and slang.
On my phone I recommend using voice control (in the accessibility settings) rather than the dictation option on the keyboard, even if you're only using it for dictation, because it's a lot easier to go back to correct mistakes with your voice using voice control over the dictate button.
I'm not entirely sure what the voice control situation is like on android phones. I used to have one, but moved to Apple because at the time it was a lot better. I also think that there might be in built voice control options for Windows computers now, but I don't have any experience with these at all.
I hope this is helpful, and if you have any more questions feel free to ask.:-)
This might be a long shot, but does anyone anyone know a free writing software that's compatible with Dragon Naturally Speaking, the dictation software? By compatible, I mean a software where you can dictate directly onto the thr page without having to use that extra dictation box.
I've been thinking of starting to write stories (or trying to, at least), but I can't do so without using Dragon. I can type some, but I lack both speed and stamina. Half a page is pretty much my limit, and even that takes really long for me.
I'm using MS Word for uni/work, but I can't use it for non-uni/non-work stuff as the computer it's on doesn't belong to me. On my personal laptop, I've installed LibreOffice. However, in LibreOffice, you can only dictate using the dictation box and once you've transferred the text from the box to the page, you can't edit the text via speech or add anything to it smoothly. So, it's really not suited for writing something in more than one sitting.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

Flipping Dictation
I swear I need to read out a baby book and highlight the names that the software will pick up. Or everyone is just going to have to be called John and Sam and Elara and Tommy. Like really basic with no meaning other that "I named them this as I got annoyed with the dictation software" so if you see them appear in my stories you'll be able to instantly go "Ahh, she wasn't able to type this story and had to read it out instead."
I'm being gas lit by fucking dictation softwares. Like I can see it typing what I've saying and then its like... sike, I think you mean this. Like just write what you fucking heard bitch. Microsoft said can we use your voice recordings to teach the main algorithm for the dictation and I finally said yes. which means they've mainly got me cussing out the dictation machine spliced with little bits of my story and growls when I see it visible type and then change what I said.
Not sure how good this will work, but since Tumblr is basically *the* Fandom site I want to give it a try!
My Mom had a Stroke a few months ago and it broke down her protective Walls that she had build around herself for years. Having her have to deal with a lot of Mental Health issues on top of her physical health issues. She's already looking for Therapy but this always takes a while.
She has all kind of thoughts in her head that she needs to get out in a way but she can't write them down on her own since they're to much and to out of order for her to grasp them.
So she instead is looking for a Program, that translates spoken Words into Text. She doesn't want straight up AI involved (Ik that in any Translator some kind of Maschine-Learning is involved but they already existed before the hype of GenAI) nor it being a Website/Program that might would save her private and personal thoughts on a cloud (she's a bit paranoid about it). She also doesn't have a phone so it has to be a program on the Computer.
Since Tumblr has a lot of Fanfiction-Writers I was wondering if any of you is familiar with this kind of Programs. A Friend on Discord suggested Dragon/DragonDictate and CMU Sphinx but I have no idea about those, so idk if they would be any good.
