Your Face Right Now - DG Week Day 6 + JD Week Day 7
(tw: blood)
BONUS:
You donât even wanna know how long this took me lol
For Dick Grayson Week @dickgraysonweekâ - Day 6: Hurt/Comfort
and for Jaydick Week @jaydick-weekâ - Day 7: Bruised and Bloody
I DID IT!!! Fiiiiiiiinally finished this long comic lol - it was inspired by a HQ!! IwaOi doujinshi called âHigan no Kageeâ by Gusari - where Iwa gets in an accident and sees the Reaper that has a familiar face uwu I wanted that but to have Death take on the one Dick thinks of and has comfort in the most, throughout his life, and so as the memories flow to the present, Deathâs appearance as Jason changes too.Â
Also made the background colours... somewhat symbolic? The Yellow at the circus is from all the happy and fun memories Dickâs had there as a child BEFORE THINGS HAPPENEDÂ so itâs bright and sunny. When Robin!Jay comes in, itâs green for envy - envy on both sides for that time, though this Robin!Jay from Dickâs memories is much sweeter and kinder than the real thing was at the time lol When RH!Jason comes, itâs a calming blue. Calm smiles, calming words, theyâre in a relationship now and trust in each other --- The hospital is pink because thatâs my go-to for love lol
Other things to note:
1) If John Grayson was alive, he would look very similar to how Dick looks on Page 3 ;w;
2) I donât understand Discowingâs collar
3) Page 7 is affectionally called âMori said we canât hold hands!âÂ
4) Does that receipt of Dickâs injuries/surgeries make sense? Of course not, I donât know what Iâm doing. I just needed to make sure ~2.5L of blood loss wouldnât straight up kill Dick right away omfg
5) Thank you to the RR Discord for helping me decide on a book for Jason to read in some throwaway frames. I drew them from scratch each time and it took hours because Iâm a dumb uAu; Pride and Prejudice has a lot of pretty covers wejtiawjeldfw I went for one that was pretty but not impossible to replicate lol
6) The Batfam group chat is canon now - so Iâm gonna shove it into everything I can lol - Donât worry, Jason also called the nurse to make sure Dickâs vitals were okay, but theyâve been banged up before, so each Bat knows a bit about what to look for, I would think -
7) Dick says heâs having a handholding withdrawal since he held hands with Jason a lot in his dream lol -- he misses the real thing now.
8) Yeah, thatâs a Bunny!Nightwing plushie lol and a Bat-clip in Cassâ hair (Yeah, patented Bat-clip lol) And sure, Timâs holding a Bat-flowerpot, why not. Go ham.
9) Big, big, BIIIIG thanks to Dream for looking through this to make sure it wasnât stupid and made some sort of sense lolll also for helping me decide on which prompt to cover this for for DG Week (Day 5 or 6?!?!)Â

Summary: Tim, Jason, and Damian learn something about Bruce and Dickâs relationship that none of them are willing to let continue.

----------------------------------------------
The Cave went deathly silent in the aftermath.
For those 30 or so seconds immediately after the distinct sound of a fist hitting a cheekbone, it was like they had landed in a vacuum of sound.
It was such a startling contrast to the shouting that had led up to that exact moment. Â The fight between Dick and Bruce hadnât been surprising. When Red Robin had called Nightwing on his private comm line to report that Robin had been shot on patrol, he had known the eldest would panic. Â And when he found out it was because Batman had made a mistake, Tim knew shit would hit the fan.
Quite literally.
But Tim hadnât anticipated Bruce taking a swing at Dick when the latter had accused Bruce of purposefully using Damian as a shield so he could go after Two Face himself. Â It wasnât even one of the worst things he had heard Dick tell Bruce in the heat of an argument, but something about it had pushed Bruce over an edge none of them had realized he could go over. Â Sure, Bruce could be a hard ass, but Tim had never seen him get to this point. Â And a quick glance at Jason, who was coiled tight with his hands clenched tightly at his side, revealed that Tim wasnât the only one caught off guard.
He expected Dick to swing back, to say something in retaliation, but instead he watched his brother straightened and wipe at the blood now dripping from his nose. Â From this angle Tim could see the angry mark Bruceâs gauntlet had left on Dickâs cheekbone and it made him wonder if there was anything broken beneath the surface.
âThatâs your one free hit, Bruce.  Iâm not the kid you used to push around to win arguments anymore. Nor am I emotionally compromised to the point that you can manipulate me into getting your way,â Dick spoke lowly, voice dangerous and anger simmering just below the surface.  It was rare to hear that particular tone come from Dick, but it never failed to send a shiver down his spine.  For all the sunshine Dick projected, most werenât aware of the precision of the weapon he could be.  âI told you if you couldnât protect him that I would.  Heâs still legally mine.â
âAre you threatening me?â
âIâm stating facts. Â I may have been disposable to you over the years, but you are out of your fucking mind if you think Iâll let you hurt him the same way.â Â Movement out of the corner of his eye pulled Timâs surprised attention from the pair, finding Jason stalking forward. Â And Tim knew that walk, he knew that look. Â
Jason was pissed and that didnât bode well for one or both of them.
âWhat the fuck did you mean by that?â Â Jason demanded, grabbing Dickâs shoulder to turn him to face him instead of Bruce. But Dick didnât respond, and Tim could see his jaw clench from here. Â In fact, at this angle he could get a much better look at the damage Bruce had done and it was definitely looking like Dickâs cheek was starting to swell. Â
âWhat on godâs green earth is going on out here?â Â Alfredâs stern voice broke through the silence that had fallen over them again and Tim spared the elderly man a glance before he moved over to where Jason and Dick were still facing each other. Â He could tell they were having one of their silent conversations, but that wouldnât stop him.
âItâs nothing Alfred,â Bruce huffed, causing Dick and Jason to tense up even more. Â âHow is Damian?â
âDick?â Â Tim spoke softly, not wanting to pull too much attention to himself. Â It took a moment before his brother looked over at him and Tim tensed at the look in his eyes. Â It was unfamiliar and difficult to put a name to. Â But there was something that concerned him there. Â He placed a hand on Dickâs upper arm before looking to Jason, finding the other man already considering him with a curiosity that Tim knew well.
Jasonâs eyes narrowed just slightly, and Tim gave him a nod before looking back to Dick and making a show of raising his hand to the bruise on his cheek so he would see it coming. âNot broken,â he muttered. Â Dick nodded and Jason gave a huff of air while Tim continued to poke at the cheek in question. Â âWho is going to get him?â Â He whispered as he worked. Â Dick jerked in surprise, eyebrows drawing down in confusion, but Tim knew Jason would get it.
âHeâs more likely to come with me than you. Â You ride with Goldie. Â Weâll meet you.â Â Tim as he let his hands fall away from Dickâs face, satisfied that nothing needed immediate attention. Â It could wait until they got back one of the safehouses. Â âGo to the one I showed you after that Penguin fight where Ivy showed.â
Remembering that night and what a mess it had been, Tim also remembered that it was one of the safehouses that Jason always kept stocked up on medical supplies. Â If they were going to have Damian with a gunshot wound and Dick with his face, they needed supplies. Â âAll right,â he agreed, looking over his shoulder to see Bruce watching them with his eyes narrowed and Alfred frowning beside him.
âYou two want to clue me in?â Â Dick finally spoke up, voice just barely above a whisper and threaded tight with tension. Â
Tim watched Jason give his shoulder a squeeze before sending Tim a look that spoke volumes. Â âCome on, Dick. Â Get your gear. Â Weâre leaving,â he told his brother as Jason walked away toward the other two men.
âWait, Tim,â Dick protested, pulling his elbow out of the youngerâs grip. Â âI canât just leave Damian. Â Not while heâs hurt.â
Sighing, Tim stopped and looked up at Dick. Â âWeâre leaving.â Â His tone gave no room for argument, but Tim also knew Dick was practically made to argue. âTrust me. Â Trust Jason.â Â Dick stared at him for a moment before looking toward the medbay where Damian was resting. Â Tim knew he was considering the options and that whatever he decided now would say a lot about their relationship.
âOkay,â he finally agreed, and Tim gave him a nod before heading over to where he had left his gear, Dickâs not far from it. Â There was a moment more of hesitation before Dick finally turned away and grabbed his own gloves and helmet. Â âIâll follow you?â
Where Tim would have usually thrown out a snarky remark and a smirk, he instead nodded and hopped onto his own motorcycle before turning the engine over. Â Once he was sure Dick was set and ready to go, he gave one last glance behind them to see Jason and Bruce nose to nose and Alfred no where in sight. Â He wasnât sure what it meant for the situation, but he couldnât find it in him to care at the moment. Â Not when he had just seen his adoptive father punch one of his brothers. Â Not when it wasnât the first time, apparently. No. Â He almost hoped Jason would return the favor and knock Bruce down on his ass. Â Almost.
But that wasnât a thought train he could go down at the moment. Â He had more important things to do, like getting Dick out of there and fixing up his brotherâs face once they got to the safehouse. Â Which didnât take as long as he thought it would. Â Of course, with it still being the early hours of the day, most of Gotham was either still asleep or just waking up for the day. Â It made it easier to store their bikes in Jasonâs hiding spot and sneak into the building without anyone seeing.
âThis is Jayâs?â Â Dick looked around, frowning as they stepped inside and tugged off their helmets. Â He paused and looked at one of the posters hanging on the wall. Â âRoy must use it,â he muttered. Â Tim let him wander around as he made his way into the kitchen to grab the supplies under the sink and an ice pack in the freezer.
âHere,â he called out, tossing the pack toward Dick who caught it easily and gave him a small smile of thanks. âWill you tell me what you meant?â Tim asked as he opened the medical kit and began digging through it to make sure they had the things they would need for Damian. Â When no response came from his brother, he looked up and found Dick frowning as he stared out the window. Â âDick?â
Blinking, the older man looked over at him and waved a hand. Â âDonât worry about it, Timmy. Â Ancient history, and all that.â Â Unfortunately for Dick, Tim was too good at reading him now and knew when he was deflecting. Â So Tim watched him, taking in all the signs he had memorized over the years. Â The tight line of his shoulders, the clenched fist at his side, the white knuckles of the hand pressing the ice pack just a bit too hard to his bruised cheek. Â They told Tim more than Dick was willing to at the moment.
âHow many times.â
It wasnât a question and Tim wasnât going to let Dick get away with brushing it under the rug, not this time.  Not this topic.  âJust drop it, Tim.  Iâm already going to have to fight Jason on this.  JustâŚitâs not important.â
Tim scoffed. Â âIt was important enough to use against Bruce.â Which, throwing back at Dick at the moment was probably a bit of a low blow, but sometimes you had to play dirty to get Dick to talk.
âLook, donât act like you donât know of at least one other time he used his fists against me.â Â The words were accusatory, but the tone was defeated. Â It made Tim furrow his brows, trying to think of what Dick could possibly mean. Â âI know thereâs no chance you havenât come across Bruceâs cowl footage from after the Crime Syndicate, before I joined Spyral.â
But Tim had no idea what Dick was talking about. Â And it must have shown on his face because soon enough Dick had closed his eyes and dropped his chin to his chest.
âFuck,â he muttered.
âA little help here,â Jasonâs voice cut off anything either of them were planning on saying and Tim hurried over to take some of Damianâs weight from Jason. Â A quick scan of the teen showed the blood seeping through the bandage at his shoulder and the light sheen of sweat on his forehead. Â The ride must have been rough. Â âLetâs get him on the bed.â
Dick rushed ahead of them and fussed over the bedding so they could get Damian comfortable with minimal effort from the pair carrying him. Â Jason let out a grunt when they set Damian down, leaning just slightly upright on the pillows Dick had stacked.
âIâll grab the kit and change the bandage,â Tim muttered, looking at Jason before leaving the room to grab the supply kit he had been looking through moments earlier. Â He paused on his way back into the room to grab the ice pack Dick had been using but dropped to hurry and help get the bed ready for the youngest of them. Â âDick,â he called, handing the ice pack back to him as he moved onto the side of the bed where the wound was. Â Dick frowned but took the pack, pressing it back to his cheek.
âWhat-â Â Damian tried to speak as Tim went to work on the bandage. The teen cleared his throat and clenched his jaw for a moment before slowly releasing a breath through his nose, all signs of how much pain he was in without showing it on his face. Â âWhat happened, Richard?â Â He asked, voice a bit raspy with the pain he was fighting.
âNothing.â
âBruce.â
Tim looked between Dick and Jason as they both answered, Dick sounding calming and Jason with the expected anger. Â Honestly, he expected this from both of them. Â Dick would forever be shielding Damian from what little bad the teen hadnât already been exposed to. Â And Jason would never sugar coat anything that had to do with Bruce. Â Even if their relationship had been improving up until this point.
He wasnât foolish enough to think that would continue with what they witnessed tonight.
âDonât,â Jason growled, pointing a finger at Dick who had opened his mouth to say something. Â âYou donât get to lie or brush this off. Â You suggested this wasnât the first time and if thatâs the case then we deserve to know. Â He deserves to know.â
But Dick didnât respond. Instead he turned his eyes onto Damian and Tim locked eyes with Jason. Â The older manâs expression was grim and Tim felt his probably just looked exhausted. They had all dealt with Dickâs stubborn nature, but he wouldnât win this time. Â Not with all three of them pushing.
Not with what Dick had accidentally revealed before Jason and Damian had arrived.
âTell us about after the Syndicate.â Â Tim turned his eyes onto the bandages he was taping to Damianâs wound, which thankfully hadnât torn any stitches. Â The teen narrowed his eyes on him and Tim attempted to give him a smile. Â He wasnât Dick and he wasnât good at comfort, but at least he and Damian had gotten over the feud they had suffered for so long. At least they trusted each other now.
With a shuffling sound, Tim glanced over to find Dick sitting on the edge of the bed near Damianâs feet with his eyes gazing off at a spot on the wall.  âI didnât want to go.  IâŚâ They watched him take a deep breath and release it slowly.  âI begged him to let me stay.  But he had already planned out the whole thing.  Had my funeral and told the world I had died.  Said it was the only way to make sure none of it happened to anyone else in the family.â
âBut that has nothing to do with Bruce punching you tonight.â
âIt doesnât seem like it, but his words were not going to be enough to convince me,â Dick turned to Jason, who had moved to lean against the closest wall with his arms crossed over his chest.
âAnd by that you meanâŚ.?â Tim considered what Dick said earlier and what he was saying now.  âThe cave was trashed after your funeral.  Alfred said he had never seen so much damage.  And how it almost seemed too much for one person to do.  Even Bruce.â
The silence blanketed them for the second time that night and this time it was suffocating. Â Whereas the air felt sucked from them earlier, this time it felt like it was weighing him down to the point that it would crush him where he sat with a hand still on Damianâs shoulder. Â
That point of contact clued him into the fact that Damian was shaking. Â Small tremors rippling through his muscles. Â A barely contained anger. Â And Tim didnât blame him. Â Damian had been dead and Dick had been devastated. Â He said it was the only reason the Syndicate had been able to get the drop on him to begin with. Â That if he hadnât been so destroyed by Damianâs death, his focus wouldnât have been in pieces. That they would never have grabbed him without a fight. Â And that was enough to make the teen upset, but then throw in this new piece of information? Â
âHe beat you into submission,â Jasonâs voice finally broke the silence, cutting through it like one of Damianâs katanas cut through flesh. Â Effortlessly and deadly. Â âThatâs what youâre not willing to just come out and say. Â He took an emotionally compromised man who had been beaten and strapped to a literal bomb, and beat the ever loving shit out of him to get him to do what he wanted.â
âRichard,â Damian whispered.
âYou know what the time was like, Jason. Â Tim. You both know what everyone was like,â Dick tried to reason, ignoring Damianâs almost-plea. Â âNone of us were our real selves, Bruce especially.â
There was a loud crash and Tim jerked as he snapped his eyes onto Jason, finding him breathing heavily and his eyes rimmed green. Â âDonât make excuses for him!â Â Jason pushed off the wall and Tim noticed a dent next to him, assuming the crash had been a fist hitting the wall. Â âNone of us might have been the real versions of us, but none of us beat the shit out of people we supposedly cared about just to get them to submit! Â You donât get to brush this off like itâs no big deal. You donât get to do that because if this had happened to any of us, you wouldnât let us.â
âThatâs different.â
âThe fuck it is,â Damian cut in. Â Tim watched Dickâs eyes go wide as he looked at the teen. Â âItâs only different because you think you are not worth the same as the rest of us. Â You value your life less than ours, but the same cannot be said for us.â Â When Damianâs hand landed on Timâs arm, he looked over and immediately jumped to help him sit more upright. Â âFather is not infallible and your loyalty to him is a disservice to yourself. Â And I for one will not stand for it any longer.â
âIâm with the kid,â Jason interjected, crossing his arms over his chest again. Â Tim noticed the green had faded from his eyes, but his body was still one large ball of tension. Â âThis stops now. Â I canât do anything about what happened in the past, but if he lays a finger on you again and I will put him in his own grave.â
âYou know theyâre right, Dick.â Â Tim spoke softly, keeping his own emotions out of it because Damian and Jason had enough for all of them. Â âThereâs more than youâre telling us, we all know it. Â But this canât happen again. Â And when we tell the girls and Duke, theyâll all say the same thing.â Â In fact, Tim cringed inwardly thinking about how Cass and Barbara would react once they heard.
âNo,â Dick turned his wide eyes on Tim. Â âYou canât tell them. Â They donât need to know.â
Tim sighed and shook his head. Â âThey do. They might already know what happened tonight, who knows where Babs has her cameras and mics set up down there. But weâre a family and we donât keep these kinds of secrets. Â They always backfire on us. Â Itâs time we learned that lesson.â
Jason moved over and set a hand on Dickâs shoulder. Â âYou canât preach the family line to the rest of us and not think weâll use it against you.â
âYeah, okay,â Dick nodded, looking between the three of them before settling on Damian. Â âOkay.â

Dick Grayson Week: Day 4 - Bruce Hits Dick & Doesn't Get Away With It
The slap resounds throughout the whole cave. The bats fly off, disturbed, chittering. Tim drops his mug.
The crash of the mug does little to disturb Bruce, whose eyes flicker to where Tim is, on the opposite side of the cave, analysing a blood splatter pattern for a recent case, before surveying Dick, who is panting, head turned away from the slap. Tim can just make out the red outline of a handprint on his face.
"Right." Dick speaks, voice raw, even though he had barely raised his voice before being slapped. "That's how it is."
Bruce crosses his arms, cape sealing around him, shadows wrapping around him like shock is wrapping around Tim, clouding his mind, clogging his veins. Because, what? Did Bruce just hit Dick? Tim may not be Jason, but even he could tell that Bruce seemed to favour Dick above them all. Well, okay, this may have changed his mind a little.
Tim dared not move closer, but he strained his ears to listen in.
"You were irresponsible tonight Dick." Bruce growled.
Dick let out a tired laugh, and scrubbed at his face, the remnants of the glue from his mask peeling off like dead skin cells, "You say that every night Bruce."
"You disobeyed my direct orders and nearly jeopardised the entire mission. The mission we have been working on for months now!"
Frustration bled out into Dick's voice, "The mission? That's all you care about? Not Jason nearly taking a bullet to the shoulder?"
Bruce just gritted his teeth. Tim bit his lip. Sure, it was no secret that Bruce and Jason weren't exactly on the best of terms, but generally Bruce cared about all of his children's wellbeing. Right? Right?
Tim's anxious spiral nearly caused him to miss Dick's next words, low and quiet. "God Bruce. You could at least try to pretend to care."
Bruce's fists began to clench, a sure sign that he was getting ready to throw a punch. Tim's stomach clenched, knotting, anxious as Dick continued, "You know, I try, try so damn hard to tell the kids you care about them, that you love them, that you would go to the ends of the earth for any of them, even Jay and Dami. But God, would it kill you once in a while to prove that?"
Tim started to make his way over to them, watching as Bruce's anger climb, his jaw work, wondering where the hell everyone else was in this godforsaken family was, readying himself to intervene should it come to it.
"The mission-" Bruce started, a vein pulsing at his temple-
"Forget the fucking mission Bruce! Can you just try to be a good father to them!" Dick threw his hands up in anger.
Tim saw the punch before it came, saw every move telegraphed in horrifying slow motion. Bruce, pulling back his right arm, leaning on his back leg, following through with a right hook, and punching Dick squarely in the jaw with zero hesitation, nearly full strength, messy, uncoordinated, not at all like the cold, clean and efficient methods of Batman; no this was all Bruce, Bruce's rage, Bruce's anger.
Dick was knocked to the ground immediately, and before he knew it, Tim had run forward, disarming Bruce, sending him crashing to the floor, the element of surprise on his side as evidenced by the bare shock in Bruce's eyes.
"Tim-" Dick started, behind him on the floor, voice thick with an emotion Tim couldn't quite identify.
"What the hell was that Bruce?" Tim hissed out, bo staff extended, pressing down on his chest.
"Tim please-" Bruce raised his hands in a placating manner, expression softening as he looked up at Tim, "Let me up, this is just a simple argument-" But no, no it wasn't, Tim thought, feeling the adrenaline course through his veins, his brain replaying the hit over, and over and over again, in bright, 4k technicolour.
"No Bruce," Tim hissed, "That looked like a father hitting his son."
Bruce's face shuttered, "Tim, let me up. This is an argument between two adults-" He said in his Batman's voice, the tone allowing for no argument.
"How long?" Tim turned around, craning his neck at Dick, who had gotten up, looking guilty as he nursed the swiftly developing bruise on his jaw, "How long has this has been going on Dick?"
Dick glanced away, and murmured, "It's fine Tim, leave it alone, I can handle it."
"The hell you can!" Tim exploded, surprising himself.
"Tim," Dick said softly, placing a hand on Tim's shoulder. He hadn't realised he was shaking. "Let him up."
Reluctantly, Tim straightened up, allowing Bruce to gingerly get up. He scowled at the man, crossing his arms.
"Come on Tim." Dick was leading him away, movements non-threatening, in the voice that he usually used with victims. Tim hated it. He should be the one comforting his big brother after this, not the other way round.
"How long Dick?" He said immediately, when they were out of reach of Bruce, safe in the showers. Dick clenched his jaw and looked away. "Dick," Tim pleaded, his voice cracking, "Please."
Dick's face was turned away but his shoulders were tense as he said, "Since before Jason."
Jesus Christ. That was years. Dick would have been Tim's age or younger.
Tim sucked in a breath, "Do the others know?"
"No." Dick's reply was immediate, "And they're not going to."
Tim's mouth fell open in shock. "Dick, what? You have to tell them!"
Dick's fist clenched, "I said no Tim! They can't know. They need..." Dick paused, taking in a shaky breath, Tim's chest ached for Dick. "They need to think he's a good father, okay?"
Tim tilted his head to look at the tiled ceiling, helplessly. Dick had been dealing with this for years and none of them had ever known. The rush of pain and empathy for Dick nearly made Tim buckle to his knees. Instead he sat on the bench and quietly murmured, "And what if it was one of us?" Tim looked up at Dick, whose face held a micro expression of horror.
"He wouldn't." Dick answered, automatically, still determinedly defending Bruce somehow with such conviction that Tim didn't know whether he wanted to laugh or cry.
"You can't know that for sure."
Dick shook his head with a sad smile on his face, "I made sure I took all the hits for you all Babybird."
And God that just made Tim feel a hundred and ten times worse. How many hits had Dick taken for him? Tim could feel himself spiralling, guilt crawling up his throat, but he shook his head, attempting to refocus himself. Now was not the time, he needed to help Dick first, and then take a massive guilt trip later.
"I'm telling the others." Tim said decisively, and Dick's head shot up.
"Tim, no-"
"No Dick," Tim said firmly. "The others need to know. This has gone on for way too long. And I could never forgive myself if you-" Tim broke off his sentence as Bruce's punch replayed once more in his mind, the sound of flesh hitting flesh and the crash of Dick falling to the floor.
He wasn't sure what they'd with (or to) Bruce once the others knew, but he did know this: the batfamily sticks together, and robins don't leave robins left behind.
@dickgraysonweek
A rather late entry on account of the week coinciding with the exam period, however I decided to take a night off and write this! I've seen a couple fics with Jason reacting to Bruce hitting Dick, but I can't recall many with Tim, so I thought I'd write this.

Summary:
"It was common knowledge that Dick didnât like being Batman. No offense to Bruce (full offense, actually), but being Batman sucked big time.
Everyone knew that.
Everyone except Bruce obviously, because he kept asking Dick to replace him when he was benched from patrol."
OR: Dick is Batman for a night while Bruce is down with the flu. It's the perfect moment for an ice cream with his little brother.
