Dear Super Secret Diary;;
So I'm trying out some country music for my ears for when I live in the south.Â
I feel like it's against the rules not to listen to country music in a place where the accent is basically from.
I tried to give Florida-Georgia Line a shot, but I couldn't do it. However, the Zach Brown Band is looking good... I already knew 2 songs - so it's got a pretty good chance of winding up on my iPod for the trip down to Alabama.
Another thing. I need to stop getting super hungry for super sweet, unhealthy things at night. Like - my eating habits are great as long as the sun is up. But as soon as the moon rears it's luminescent dome - I'm like "I NEED TIRAMISU! I NEED CAKE! I NEED ICING! I NEED COOKIES!"
That needs to stop. When I'm living with my sister, those foods won't even be an option. We've already made a list of food that we will ALWAYS need in the apartment - and unfortunately, snick snacks didn't make the cut. Also - we won't have any dollars for fun things for a long time.
OH MY GOD! I KNOW LUKE BRYAN, TOO! Oh, how exciting... this music business is going great.
Diary Entry #9: I am...Lauren Parker
Hey y'all, it's Lauren, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Vote Against Project. This post is supposed to be an intro to me, so here we go.
I am...  a daughter, a hugger, a Durham native (Bulls up!), a sister, a bestie, a singer, a gym rat, a dance-while-cleaning-the-house-er, a Tarheel, and PISSED!
See that photo, do I look happy? If you had to fight hypocrisy and discrimination, you'd be pissed, too. That's exactly why when Curtis asked me if I was interested in joining the team, I jumped at the opportunity.
      Anne and I feel the same way. This is about the human experience.
So how did I meet Curtis and other members of the Vote Against team? Musical theatre! Do you see a theme here? There is something about the theatre community that just sucks you in. You make some of the greatest friends there. For me, I truly believe that friends are the family you choose and I'm truly blessed to say I've chosen a pretty awesome family.
It was with a heavy heart when I read the news about Amendment One. My state let me down (again). I was angry that the leadership was so shortsighted. I felt helpless and unprotected. As someone who is in a new relationship, I'm always thinking about my future and making my family. I don't know what it's going to look like. I'm still trying to decide how my chosen family will function. Will it be a marriage? A partnership? Will there be kids? Will we travel and be the cool aunt and uncle? What if we want to live like Oprah and Stedman, not get married, will my job still recognize us and provide benefits (another reason to be like Oprah - she owns the benefits!)? The point of this is that it's up to ME to decide, not my state. Amendment One to me isn't just about marriage, it's about autonomy. The rights that are under attack are ones that I should have the chance to choose. Like I chose my friends and my self made family. Amendment One is about the future of my state - my future. As one of the top places to live, I love that people want to move here because it means there's more cool and innovative places and events that come with it. When people come here, they get to see what I love about North Carolina. We can't continue to move forward if we continue to go backward. I say all this to say, I'm honored to stand with my "framily" as the volunteer coordinator of this amazing project. I hope that as we build this portrait of unity, those in the legislature see that marriage and family aren't just "between a man and a woman." That family can be whatever you choose and that they practice what they preach of having the government stay out of people's lives. If they (and we) allow Amendment One to pass, we've relinquished our autonomy. Come stand with your "framily!" I can't wait to meet y'all around the state and if you want to volunteer, come holler at me :).
