Droog and Spades are blissfully unaware that they've been coparenting their children. They dont think much of the fact that sometimes a kid disappears and they know automatically where they are because they have rooms in both houses, or that the school knows that when they see one of them they have to send all for kids down, or that they spend every holiday together. Until one day when she's twelve, Aradia busts into the Noir kitchen (where Kankri and Damara are arguing about who gets to take the Mustang (Kankri is insisting that his study date with Latula is more important and Damara is shouting back that it's not a date if she's with Mituna and regardless, she's got an plans with Dirk and Meenah), Slick is rumpaging through the fridge, and Droog is trying to help Karkat with his homework) with tears running down her cheeks. On her way past, Spades shouts after, "What the fuck is wrong with you?" "I dont want to talk about it dad!" And Spades and Droog both freeze because none of the kids have ever done that, but the other three kids barely think anything about it because they never realized their dads weren't together
