5. Love for the Sunnah, its people, and its carriers (meaning the ‘ulamaa). They believe that these people are the ones who Allaah has utilized to preserve the religion. Meaning, we have to believe that Allaah preserves the religion through the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah and through Ahlus-Sunnah. Allaah has beautified the hearts of Ahlus-Sunnah and He has granted them light through their love for the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah. And this is a virtue directly from Allaah that He has granted them. It was said to Abu Bakr Bin Iyaash: Who is the Sunni? (Abu Bakr Bin Iyaash was from the Salaf) He answered: The one who when you mention innovation to him, he does not become angry.

6. They are fair and just. They are between taking the religion as insignificant and being too extreme in carrying out the religion. And they are between not doing enough, falling short of the mark and over-exceeding the mark.

7. They do not go to extremities with any one individual (the Shaykh is indicating personality worship, Allaahu ta’aalaa ‘alim), even from our imams, to the point that we believe that is impossible for him to make any errors at all. We don’t do this with the Companions, nor other than them. Rather they believe in the hadeeth of Rasulullaah: “My Ummah will not unite upon error.” This is an evidence of ijmaa’. And whenever there is ijmaa’, it is the truth.

8. They have hatred for Ahlul-Bida’ah (The People of Innovation). And they worship Allaah through striving against the People of Innovation. Meaning by clarifying their innovation, so that the people can be warned from them and the people can stay away from them.

9. They place strong importance upon the aqeedah, upon sound, Islaamic creed. And they give this precedence over everything else, in contrast to the People of Innovation.
