“Morning, Hugo.” you said as you strutted into Command and sat on the table he leaned against.

It was pretty early so no one else was in Command just yet. The screens were on but were only displaying white which was the source of light of the room. Friedkin looked upset as he seemed to be lost in his thoughts so you didn't say anything further.

“Am I a good boss, Y/N?” he said out of the blue.

You were confused on why he'd ask such a thing, but you just hummed. “I... don't know. I'm not exactly in a position to decide that anyway.” You shrugged. “I'm just a legman.”

He scoffed and turned to you with his arms crossed. “You're not just a legman. You're my legman.”

You smirked and raised your eyebrow at him. “And that means...?”

He sighed defeatedly and looked back to the blank screens. “I don't know.” He aggressively scratched the back of his neck. "Like... I've been thinking about who else still believe in me and... you're the only one who comes to mind. I guess I'm just...” He threw his hand in the air. “worried that my stupid decisions are gonna get you hurt.”

You pursed your lips and thought back on all the times Friedkin's decisions affected you. As a field operative, his word was the rule and more often than not, it got you into massive trouble. You would've tried to console him about his worries, but you couldn't given the circumstances.

“I've been handling them well.” You shrugged. “It's fine.” Friedkin nodded acceptingly, but after he had fully processed your words, he froze and turned to

you. “What? Are you saying that...”

He proceeded to groan and facepalm with both his hands at the realization that he had already put you into danger. You smiled crookedly to calm him down, but it was in vain.

“Don't get me wrong.” you said, successfully not stammering. “I think it's good experience for you, dude.”

“Dude,” he said, turning to you. “you just, like, heavily implied that I've already endangered you with the other decisions I've made.”

“Yes, you have.” You smiled and nodded. “I'd almost died a couple of times and was this close to always getting admitted to the hospital, but—”

He groaned again, cutting you off. You silently cursed yourself for letting your thoughts leave your tongue and got off the table. You grabbed Friedkin's face and tore him out of his hands.

“Look at — Look at me, Hugo.” You forced him to face you. He pouted sadly and his eyebrows furrowed. Now that he knew he puts you in danger already,  he couldn't even look you in the eye. “Good decisions or not, I'm fine, okay? I'll be fine.”

“I just want to protect you, Y/N.” he mumbled.

You laughed and nuzzled his nose. “You can't do that, Hugo, 'cause I'm already protecting you, and I'll make sure you're always protected.”
