"I'd say stop fucking around with Qrow and your fortune will turn around like that--" A snap of her fingers punctates the thought, even as her eyes are rolling. "--but I know that isn't advice you're likely to take. So I'll just say... calendula works wonders on burns. For whenever Salem's little plaything comes around to finish the job."

After a certain age, if one’s red string didn’t become apparent, it was thought it never would. That was what James had begun to think. Not that it mattered. He was married to his job, to his kingdom... at least that was what he told himself every night as he fell to sleep alone in his bed.

That changed the day that the red band had appeared around his left ring finger... when Arthur had stepped into his office. What had confounded him though, was the fact that they had tried this once upon a time and it had not gone well. It hadn’t appeared then, so what had changed now? And could he honestly live with this? 

No... he wasn’t sure he could.

Looking up, he noticed that Arthur had noticed the same indication upon his finger, one of the last remaining specks of magic in this world that no one could explain. (Though many a scientist, especially in Atlas, had tried... the uses it could be put to if they could figure out the rhyme and reason to it.)
