Earthquakes are not completely random events, they’re just extremely hard to predict. Scientists found that they follow a mathematical pattern known as the “Devil’s Staircase,” which, as the name implies, does not have an easy solution.

Good Morning from Scotland.
Glencoe Dawn by john mcsporran Via Flickr: I was hoping to reach Stob Mhic Mhartuin in Glencoe for some sunrise photographs. However, I was slowed down by ice and deep snow and the dawn arrived just as I reached the top of the Devil's Staircase. This is a stitched panorama of 8 images. Buachaille Etive Mor is the mountain to the right, with Beinn a'Chrulaiste centre left.

Looking south down Glen Coe from the Devil’s Staircase (on the West Highland Way). The large mountain on the right is the distinctive Buachaille Etive Mòr. To the left, in the background, are Creise and Meall a' Bhùiridh.
The rocks of Glen Coe are part of an ancient caldera, formed after the eruption of a supervolcano around 400 million years ago. During the last ice age, glacial retreat created the distinctive U-shaped valley that can be seen today.
The Devil's Staircase ~ Ligeti Strangeness continues. While playing this, a young toad hopped up nearby. I asked him "Do you Like music?" He immediately turned to face me, then hopped right up to right by my feet. I guess the answer was yes. ;) Then a bit later, more quickly scurrying movement, and a pretty Big Wolf Spider (I believe) came running up. We're amicable, but not tight like me and the frogs. He climbed into a crevice, and eventually to cover. I took a couple of pictures, but by then froggy was a couple feet away--on the hunt too, no doubt. If the pics turned out, I'll post them. When the music ended, I couldn't see either of them. Maybe both were just like "WHAT is that Sound, at 2:30 am!?"
