Age Appropriate Toys (Birth to 2 Years Old)
I went to the developmental play class at the Hollywood Pump Station on Friday taught by Edith Mak, an occupational therapist. I'm not sure how much I learned because Benny is almost nine months and the class was geared closer towards those starting to sit, but it was cool to see the other toys that help development. I don't have a scanner, but I attached a photo of the handout of age appropriate toys for birth to age 2.
Some other websites whet handout suggests is aota.org - the American Occupational Therapy Association; zerotothree.org - National Center for Clinical Infant Programs; and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for any recalled toys.

The class showed some positions for babies:
- Prone with arms extended (sort of like cobra yoga pose) - have her reach for an object with one arm while in the pose
- Prone to Hands and Knees
- Rolling Prone to Supine (rolling back and forth so that they can start to move by rolling)
- Prone to and From Sitting
- Sitting to and from Hands and Knees
- Pull up to Stand from Hands and Knees (using furniture)
- Pull up to Tall Kneeling (using support)
- Lowering Self to Floor (to pick up toys while supporting themselves)
- Inferior Pincer Grap, Superior Pincer Grasp
- Transfer Objects Between Hands
- Isolated Index Finger Action
