If I understood gifs, I would put a really excited one here because ohmuffins is following me!
She, along with itssnix, tomesaway, detroitsomething, and positivelypt are like my Tumblr teacher role models YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
tomesawayfromhome replied to your post: Detroit on Thursday night to Friday afternoon…...
What about detroitsomething? He’s in Detroit and he’s lovely.
I was following detroitsomething... and somehow he dropped off my radar. I re-added him. To be honest, Detroit is scaring the crap out of me. Pittsburgh parents tell their kids all the Detroit horror stories to keep them in the 'Burgh.

Another Lovely Saturday
Beginning to work is always the most difficult part of the weekend--particularly on Saturdays. Today is different, though--I'm driven towards my scholars' success, as always, and while I'm not 100% positive about exactly which path will get us there this year, I am 100% positive we will reach it.
Today I am planning out my second unit, and I am fully anticipating having a large portion of the planning done, particularly for the upcoming 2-2/12 weeks.
My scholars will succeed, and just like they will reach their big goals, so will Ray and myself.

That was a great dare! Thank you! OK, if you could only have your students read one book for the rest of their lives, which book would you choose? ALSO: If you could only recommend one book for adults to read for the rest of their lives, what would it be?
This is such a hard question, you have no idea. And my answer is going to sound silly, but I'd choose the same book for both. We only get one forever right? Well, adults and children need the same lessons.
I choose The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster.
I wrote this about it a few years back for a similar question:
I read this pretty early on, and it has vaguely shaped my few of the world (in a comical way). By that I mean, due to the artist's depictions within the book, I have images to go with common sayings like "in the doldrums" and "jump to conclusions", and they always always pop up in my head. The idea of the towns of Illusions and Reality, introduced the idea early of appreciating my surroundings.
I will add now that I think a good book makes you think about three things: yourself, your surroundings/the world, and your place in that world (English teachers, amiright?). I think Phantom Tollbooth does these things in a very accessible way for all ages. It's like a Disney movie: there is no doubt that it's a children's book and children would be entertained by the story, but adults would understand the message on a much deeper level. The heart of it transcends age.
