三星堆遗址Sanxingdui Site
Located on the south bank of the Yuzi River in the northwest of Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, China, 40 kilometers south from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and 7 kilometers east from downtown Guanghan, the Sanxingdui site is a huge site complex composed of many distribution points of ancient cultural remains and was announced as a national key cultural relics’ protection unit in January 1988. Archaeologists have divided the cultural remains of the site group into four phases, of which phase I is an early accumulation, belonging to the late Neolithic culture, and phases II to IV belong to the bronze culture. The site group is dated from the late Neolithic period to the late Shang and early Zhou dynasties, extending up and down for nearly 2,000 years.
The Sanxingdui site is based on the Yazi River and straddles the Mamu River, with a superior geographical location and natural environment, forming an ancient city with a defense system through the eastern, western and southern walls and the Yazi River on the northern side. The ancient city consists of a large outer city and several small inner cities, which can be divided into ritual areas, residential areas, workshop areas, burial areas, and the remains of important rammed earth buildings such as Sanxingdui and Yuewan, reflecting the highly prosperous, well laid out ancient kingdoms of the metropolis, which is an ancient city with distinctive regional characteristics different from the capital cities of Xia and Shang in Central China.
The bronze products, jade products and gold products excavated from the Sanxingdui site are peculiarly shaped and beautifully made, showing strong and mysterious religious culture, unique national characteristics and regional features, which are extremely rare treasures of human ancient history and enjoy a high reputation in the world. The handicraft industry of the ancient Shu Kingdom is very developed, complete and technologically advanced as seen in the Sanxingdui site. The rich cultural remains of the Sanxingdui site fill the missing link of important cultural relics in the evolutionary sequence of Chinese civilization, which is the center of ancient civilization in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and one of the important origins of Chinese civilization and helps to explore the process of early human political organization and the evolution of social forms. As of 2009, Sanxingdui has created and broken many world and Chinese records, many of which have been selected as the World's Best and China's Best by the China World Records Association. The earliest and tallest bronze sacred tree in the world. It is 384 cm high, with three clusters of branches, three branches per cluster, nine branches in total, with 27 fruits and nine birds on it, and a dragon winding down the side of the tree. It is inferred that it may be the ancient mythological legend of the Fusang tree. The earliest gold scepter in the world. 142 cm long, 2.3 cm in diameter, weighing more than 700 grams, with engraved human heads, fish and bird ornaments. The world's largest and most complete bronze statue of a large standing man. With a height of 262 cm and a weight of over 180 kg, it is known as the king of bronze statues. The largest bronze vertical-eyed human statue in the world. It is 64.5 cm high and 138.5 cm between the two ears. The world's largest bronze human head statue with mask unearthed at one time. Up to more than 50 pieces.

太阳神鸟(Tai yang shen niao)-Sun God Bird gold
Features:The Shang dynasty Taiyangshenniao ornament has an outer diameter of 12.5 cm, an inner diameter of 5.29 cm, a thickness of 0.02 cm, and a weight of 20 grams. The entire vessel is round in shape, with an extremely thin body. The design is hollowed out and divided into two layers: the inner layer is a circle with twelve rotating teeth-shaped rays distributed equidistantly around it; the outer layer is surrounded by the inner pattern, which consists of four identical birds flying counterclockwise. The four birds fly in the same direction with their heads and feet connected back and forth, opposite to the direction of rotation of the inner vortex. The whole design resembles a modern paper-cutting work, with concise and smooth lines, rich in rhythm, full of strong sense of motion, rich in strong symbolic meaning and great imagination space. The four sacred birds fly around the spinning sun, and the cycle of life and motion is incessant, reflecting the strong worship of ancient mankind to the sun and birds, and expressing the ancient people's eulogy to life and movement.
History: In the ancient history and legends of Sichuan, there are many records related to the Yellow Emperor, Zhuan Xu and Dayu. There are at least 70 oracle bone divinations from the Yin ruins that record the relationship between Shu and Shang. The large number of excavated artifacts proves that the pre-Qin archaeological culture of the Sichuan basin was strongly influenced by the cultures of the Central Plains, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the Gan and Qing regions. On February 8, 2001, some bronze and stone artifacts were unearthed during pipeline construction in Jinsha Village, a suburb of Chengdu, and archaeologists immediately launched a large-scale scientific excavation, with a large number of gold, jade, bronze and ivory artifacts continuously unearthed in a stunning manner. at about 10 a.m. on February 25, a special gold ornament was unearthed, which had been crumpled into a ball when it was first unearthed, and after archaeologists carefully and scientifically After the archaeologists carefully and scientifically recorded the gold ornament, they carefully unfolded the gold ornament - the "sun" and "bird" patterns carved on the gold ornament clearly appeared, along with a large number of jade and gold artifacts showing the power of the king. The unearthing of the gold artifacts proves that this gold ornament is most likely a treasure left over from the grand rituals held by the ancient king of Shu.
Production techniques: The Shang Dynasty Taiyangshenniao has a gold content of 94.2% and is processed with natural alluvial gold. Because the processing tools were not very sharp, they left traces of repeated incising around the pattern. From the analysis of the residual traces of the Shang and Zhou sun gods and birds gold jewelry, its processing at least used hot forging, hammering, shearing, polishing, hollowing and other processes. The whole figure (including the sun and its rays and the four birds) was drawn on the surface of the round gold foil, and finally the pattern was repeatedly incised and cut according to the drawn pattern to form hollowing.
Artifact Value Editor: On August 16, 2005, the Shang Dynasty Taiyangshenniao decoration pattern was selected from more than 1,600 candidates to become a Chinese cultural heritage symbol, as well as the core pattern of Chengdu's city symbol.

Poster Design Exploration
Poster designs from words, patterns, objects, and colours related to my site of connection. Used text and shape together, as well as text and illustration to see what works well.
Design Exploration
Poster design exploration using words related to my chosen site, shapes, point and line, color, effects.
For colors, I used a gold gradient and a greenish-blue background, which was similar to the colors I found in my chosen site, especially in the floor tiles.
I used point and line to create the outline pattern in the background, which is a pattern that can be found on the ceiling of my chosen site.
I made my design look sharp and vibrant, which are descriptors that I felt were related to my site.
I also used an outer glow effect, and the pathfinder tool for the text outlines and shape.
For text, I used the words 'Antique Oddities', using the typeface 'Victorian Orchid' from Adobe Fonts.
These are words related to my site, which had many antique shops with niche items.
I wanted to give the design a metallic and retro feel through the colors, shapes, and typeface. This is because my site itself has a lot of metallic or shiny materials such as the fence, lights, and floors.
My site also has many historic elements which is why I wanted to use a typeface which had a classic look, such as Victorian Orchid.
This is only a basic design for now as I wanted to explore my design ideas using what we have learnt in class and the technical exercises.
