omw to the desert hope i see a black bear(FROM A SAFE DISTANCE)
There's a lot of things I don't miss about living in Arizona, but one of the things I do miss is looking up and feeling a keen ache in my chest at the perfection of the stars, the desolate melancholy of the bare rock hills, the absolute magnificence of the thunderheads rising above the storm clouds like a cresting wave about to break
The desert will bewitch you and you can't escape its spell
We're talking about food, right?....
Mika and her good friend Morales. What a team!!

it’s my day off from my first week of field camp ^_^ so nice to be in a town with full service for a bit but i am enjoying the wilderness… it’s all camping so i’m getting used to being a little a lot dirty all the time. we’re also at about 6000 ft (a little less than two km) above sea level and it actually snowed the past two nights ↓
we went to death valley yesterday and were almost 300 ft (about 86 m) below sea level and it was HOT and DRY and then we drove back up to camp and sleet was coming down. crazy crazy. i also got to introduce someone to hopper structures in badwater basin
it’s really beautiful out here and if i could work in desert environments forever i think i’d always be happy :)
found a weird rhyolite in my backpack (explains why i’ve been having trouble getting my calculator to fit into my bag) and managed to identify it AND figure out what formation it’s from. smiles
(it’s mitchell mesa rhyolite from out in the chihuahua desert of west texas)
