Sleep? What even was that? As the Feast of Ancestors drew nearer, the thinning Veil carried the voices from the Otherworld over, and the echo kept him awake. The foreign feeling of these intrusive sounds left him feeling out of place with the rest of his world in that moment. He closed his eyes, and let the dim light of the clouded day tint the back of his eyelids with a faint red glow.
Red felt like home. He sunk deeper into the bed, and the familiar ripple of leaving his body behind tugged at his back as he continued to sink through. He landed from the abyss, with his back to the hard, stony ground.
Blue eyes opened to look up at a sky that was just barely pink and lavendar and dark blue with sunrise. Back where he'd come from, the sun was up, behind a shroud of clouds, but here, at home, the sun had yet to peek up over the horizon just yet. He sat up and looked ahead, at the tall red mountains that loomed over the valley in which he'd grown up. Here, he felt the spirit of the cougar, as in the early morning air, one slunk through the thin desert brush, looking for it's next meal.
He breathed in the dusty air, the scent of dew on the parched, dry earth and the tough skin of cacti. Though the sound from across the Veil was still loud, he was more secure here. This was home.
