We must learn to be kinder to people, not because we want something in return, but because that is what Jesus has called us to do. He tells us to love one another and to treat others the way we want to be treated. These are not just words we read in the Bible; they are instructions for how we should live every day. Sometimes being kind is not easy because our emotions can get in the way. It can depend on our mood, how we are feeling, or whether we feel like being bothered. But kindness is not supposed to depend on how we feel. We should ask God to help us put our emotions aside and show love even when it is difficult.
Sometimes God puts people in our path who need encouragement, help, or simply someone to care about them. We should not help others because we want attention, praise, or something in return. Our kindness should come from a genuine heart that wants to please God. God knows our hearts and He knows whether we are truly helping because we care or because we want people to see what we have done. We may fool people, but we can never fool God. True kindness does not need an audience because God sees what is done in secret.
Every day, God gives us another opportunity to change the way we think, speak, and treat people. We may have failed yesterday, but today gives us another chance to do better. Instead of allowing our moods and emotions to control how we treat others, we can ask God to help us become more loving, patient, compassionate, and willing to serve. We never know what someone else may be going through or how much a simple act of kindness may mean to them. Let us choose to love people because Christ first loved us, and let our kindness come from a heart that truly desires to honor God.
Proverbs 11:17 Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.
God wants us to understand that the way we treat people matters. We should not be kind only when we want something in return. True kindness comes from a heart that desires to please God. Even when someone has not treated us the way we wanted, we can still choose to show them grace, love, and compassion.
Sometimes being kind is difficult because we may be hurt, frustrated, or simply not in the mood to deal with someone. But God calls us to rise above our emotions and allow Him to guide our actions. We never know what someone may be going through, and a simple act of kindness can make a difference in someone’s life. When we allow God to work through us, we become a blessing to others instead of adding to their pain. Cruel words and actions can leave wounds, but kindness can bring encouragement and healing.
We should ask God each day to help us become more compassionate and less focused on ourselves. We should not look for recognition or praise when we help someone, because God sees our hearts and knows our motives. This verse reminds us that kindness is valuable, and the way we treat others can affect our own lives as well. Let us choose to love, forgive, help, and encourage others, not because we expect something in return, but because we want our lives to reflect the heart of Jesus.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
We must start showing kindness to others because God has shown us kindness in so many ways. He gave His life for us because of His great love for us, even when we did not deserve it. Sometimes we may feel like God’s kindness is not there, especially when we are going through difficult situations, but His love has never left us. His kindness is not based on what we have done or how perfect we are. God continues to reach for us, love us, and give us opportunities to turn back to Him.
Some people may try to say that God has changed or that He is different now, but God’s love and character do not change. What matters is that He loves us and desires a relationship with us. He knows everything we have done, every mistake we have made, and every failure we have experienced, yet He still offers us grace and mercy. We should never allow our past to make us believe that God cannot love us. His kindness reminds us that we can always come back to Him and allow Him to change our hearts.
Because God has shown us kindness, we must learn to show that same kindness to others. We should love people, help people, encourage people, and treat them with compassion instead of judging them or treating them harshly. We may not always feel like being kind, but kindness is a choice we can make through the help of the Holy Spirit. Let us remember how much God has forgiven us and allow His love to flow through us to others. When we show kindness, we are reflecting the heart of Christ and showing people what His love looks like.
*** Today we learn that kindness is something God wants us to show to everyone, not just to the people who are kind to us. Jesus showed us what true kindness looks like through His love, mercy, and sacrifice. We may not always feel like being kind because of our mood, our circumstances, or the way someone has treated us, but kindness should not depend on how we feel. We must ask God to help us love others and treat them with compassion, even when it is difficult.
We should not help someone just so others can see what we have done or so we can receive praise. God sees our hearts and knows our motives. There may be people around us who are hurting, struggling, or simply need someone to show them love. A small act of kindness, an encouraging word, or helping someone in need can make a difference in their life.
We may have been unkind yesterday, but we can choose differently today. We can ask God to help us control our emotions, forgive others, and treat people the way we would want to be treated. When we allow God’s love to work through us, kindness becomes more than something we do—it becomes a reflection of who Christ is in our lives.
