âHear Me Out Cake'
Male UA Students x Reader
The class hosts a âHear Me Out Cakeâ party for fun in the common room, and you happen to bring along a photo of their face. Platonic/Romantic short fic reactions.
Warnings: None, Katsuki, Shindo, and Monoma are mean, duh.
Featuring: Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugou, Tenya Iida, Eijiro Kirishima, Denki Kaminari, Tamaki Amajiki, Hitoshi Shinso, Neito Monoma, and Yo Shindo.
â
â§Izuku Midoriya had done a bit of research into what the others were bringing, what was and wasn't socially acceptable, and had tried to pick something middle-of-the-road and recognizable; hopefully not something heâd get made fun of for, but also something the others would find interesting.
Unfortunately for him, Bakugou had plenty to make fun of him for anyways about it, and blasted him for his âloser tastes'. You cringed away and waited a bit, letting a few classmates go before you for him to recover before placing your cutout down nervously.
âTch. As if anyoneâs hearing that out. Grow up, you stupid extras,â Bakugou mocked, knocking a chair over as he left upon seeing Dekuâs face. The freckled boy just started at the cake.
âHoly whoah!â he breathed, face red, clearly unable to think of anything else to say. His mind was racing through scenarios at the speed of light. If it was a joke, then he shouldn't make a fool of himself by saying too much. If it wasnât a joke though, would he loose his chance? What if- crap, he needed to say something, and fast, or he would lose it!
âOh, uh, good one! I guess I should have done one of you then, huh? That would've been real funny if we both did it!â He said sheepishly with a smile, still unsure of if it was real or not, eyeing his own face on the cake.
â§Katsuki Bakugou didn't bother bringing a cutout, but showed up anyways at the insistence of Denki and Mina. -but now, he eyed the cake like he was about to murder it. âWhat the hell is that supposed to mean, you dumbass? Who on Earth confesses like that?â
Many students had stepped back by now, only you, Izuku, Kirishima, and him still unfaltering in the potential blast radius.
Before you could even register his words, a second later he had you grabbed by the wrist and pinned against the door around the bend of the hallway away from prying eyes. Judging by their reactions, half your classmates thought you were off to do something naughty for your boldness, and the other half must have thought he was about to quite literally destroy you for your stupidity. Honestly, you weren't quite too sure yourself.
His quirk rippled through his fingers, his annoyed face inches away from you. âI'm going to give you one chance to come clean and tell me why the hell you pulled that stunt before I explode you to smithereens. Get talking you bastard!â
â§Tenya Iida had no idea of what a 'hesr me out Cake' was before the party, so after looking it up, refused to make a contribution, believing that the idea was objectifying to women. He sat out but still attended the event, knowing social gatherings were important for young adults. Besides, as class representative, he had to make sure no one put anything too crazy on a U.A. class cake.
He was too busy examining the punch bowl for signs of tamperment (really, what were his classmates thinking, leaving such a thing unattended?) to notice you leaving his photo, but he was not oblivious to the many pairs of eyes that quickly turned to him after you did so.
âWhat? I was just making sure-â he stopped short upon seeing the scene play out, and furrowed his brow in confusion.
âIs this some sort of a joke?â he said in that no-nonsense voice he had, but there was something unreadable below it. After all this time of getting to know him though, you knew he wouldn't really be mad over a joke⌠not unless he actually liked you back.
Why him though? He wondered. Surely if it were a joke, putting someone like Bakugou or Mineta or Denki would get more of a rise out of them. Maybe you just wanted a neutral target that wouldn't make too big of a deal about it.
âWell, in any case, I'm glad you believe I'm a prime example to look up to. We all need to be more-â
"Get a room, class rep!" Midnight, the volunteer chaperone, snapped, pulling down her sleeve and threatening to put him to sleep.
âThat's highly-â the class groaned and cut off the rest of his speech. This was a party, after all. If he wasn't going to sweep you off your feet or do something exciting, they were past it.
â§Eijiro Kirishima had gone to Denki for some help (maybe not the best track record, but hey, he did know girls) on deciding who to put, and in the end he decided on a pro wrestler known for her unique fashion sense. After all, what's manlier(hotter) than being yourself?
So when you dropped a familiar scarred face on the cake, he paused a moment to take it in, eyes wide in surprise, then let out a sharky grin with a light blush. âThatâs so manly(cute) (Y/N)! Do you really mean it?â Straight to business.
âIs it my rock-hard abs? Don't be shy!â He flexed his quirk, jutting rocky bits out of his skin to show-off.
Seeing your hesitant expression in front of the crowd, he opted instead for a fist bump. âDon't sweat it, man, we can circle back to this later! I don't mind.â
â§Denki Kaminari had spent hours narrowing down who he was going to put on the cake, sorting through his favorite tentacled creatures, characters, and other freaky beings he was sure would make many mouths drop. However, he wasn't remotely prepared for what you were bringing.
To say his brain short-circuited was an understatement. He had been very invested in what each of the 1-A class members were putting on the cake to try and find out what they were into, but for the most part had been pretty let down with how normal many of theirs had been. So, when he saw you drop your decorated toothpick on the cake, his head was on his hand in disinterest, barely registering his own selfie peering back at him, totally lost in nothingness. However, the longer he spaced out, the more like him it looked. The yellow hair. The smile. The streak. Oh wait- that was him!
A jolt ran through the crowd of students, and he accidentally shocked everyone in the vicinity with the startle of recognition. He couldn't even process what it fully meant, was it supposed to be a joke or genuine interest?
He beamed. âWhat a shocking twist reveal!â He sprang up with his hands in the air after the pun, as the others were recovering from the electrical current, and ran over to high-five you⌠or hug you, depending if it were a joke or not. Did this mean he finally bagged a hottie, or just found out you had a good sense of humor?
â§Tamaki Amajiki didn't even know where to begin. If he picked something crazy, the others would laugh at him. If he picked something stupid, they'd hate him. If he didn't go at all, they'd make a big deal out of it the next day. He miserably pressed his head against the wall and sighed.
He wanted to go home. The party had only started a few minutes ago, but it was already too loud with the music pouring out of the speakers. Neijire had made sure it âwasn't anything too wildâ for him, but still, maybe their definitions of âwildâ were vastly different.
He had some random character picked out that he had found online, recommended as a good, neutral answer for cakes like these. Sure, the class was only four people- but still, it didn't make it any better somehow! Hopefully, no one would say anything. Please.
His still sat in his pocket, wishing to be dead last, and as he made no move, he got his wish. He had drawn down his hood by now, but nervously watched every move of his classmates, wishing the music was just a bit quieter, or the room was a bit bigger (so he could hide), or that he were a kitten so he wouldn't have to go to social eventsâŚ.
So when you sat down your choice, the room seemed to go still for him in a moment of adrenaline, before everything becoming dizzingly back into focus.
âUnh?â he squeaked, unable to form a coherent thought anyone else would understand, not able to focus on anything but the anxious feelings bubbling under his surface. His eyebrows pressed together in concern, and ears tinged red.
After a second, he flinched back and covered his mouth, mortified at the noise he had just made. âAwh, no, I messed up againâŚâ He flipped the hood all the way, so it covered everything but his quivering mouth.
In the darkness, he couldn't see the others, and it was a bit of a calming effect.
After a moment, Neijire came up to him and shook his chair. âTamaki, that means they think you're hot! Isn't that great? Yahoo!â
Hot? Him? How could his lanky figure and grotesque animal features ever be anything other than weird and awful? It must be a sick joke. But why would his classmate do that to him? If it were a joke, Mirio would have been the best target. He'd probably laugh. Neijire seemed to think it was real, though. And if it were true, why couldn't it wait for a private moment? Maybe a tea party or something? No, that wasn't a thing anymore. Or a note maybe? If he wanted to confess to someone, it would be through a letter. Or maybe not. He'd probably just never tell them. Could he ever find love unless someone came up to him?
It was so brave that they had managed to say something though, even if by a gesture. âOh, well, um, thatâs nice of you⌠I guessâŚâ he tapered off, his voice barely audible at the end. âT-thanks. It m-means a lot,â he choked out.
âCome on Tamaki, weâre all friends here. Now show us what you've got!â Togata reached for his pocket, but he swiped his cloak up, billowed and bunched up like a blanket covering him from head-to-toe.
âN-no, I don't think so,â he said, standing his ground and crumpling the toothpick in his strong hand.
"If you don't show us, I'll get (Y/N) to kiss you!â Neijire threatened.
âO-okayâŚâ he said quietly, resigning himself with a blush, shutting his eyes.
â§Hitoshi Shinso had smirked to himself multiple times about his choice, planning on quietly sneaking his onto the cake and leaning back and watching the chaos unfold from a distance with a cocky smile only for himself.
What he had never anticipated, however, was that another classmate of his had a plan even more sly than his. When he saw what you had done, his own photo dropped to the ground with a small âtickâ noise as it hit the floor. Were you serious? He was incredulous. Should he be wary that it wasn't real, or grateful someone thought so highly of him? He wordlessly pointed at his chest and raised his eyebrows, and you nodded. â...me?â he questioned, as if the word was foreign to his mouth.
You nodded again.
âHa! What a joke. As if anyone would like the guy with the villain quirk,â someone from the back of the class shouted, and you gave a dirty look, but couldn't see who had said the biased comment.
He just narrowed his eyes and shut down, looking away at the ground, wondering if he should leave.
Then, before he could stop himself, he had roped your sleeve with his capture weapon, which he always kept around his neck, and lightly tugged on you to follow him, to continue the conversation in private, away from the idiots who would say such things.
â§Neito Monoma was unapologetically himself, and although unusual, he was entirely confident in what he had picked for 1-Bâs cake. Although some in the class had shot him looks of concern, he couldn't care less what they thought of him, and seemed more interested in straightening out his tie.
When you placed your photo, he was watching, but took a moment to swallow a bite of cake and tap the plate a couple of times in thought before putting it down and giving any sort of reaction. You couldn't tell if it was disgust or awe in his eyes. âOh?â was all he said at first. He took another sip of his drink, and got up, walking straight up to you. âGot a little crush on your classmate, pet? I can't blame you though. All of U.A. should want a piece of this. Was it my flawlessly overpowered quirk, my ruggedly good looks, my-â
Kendo cut him off with her hand between the class and the two of you, pushing you out the door. âAlright, alright lovebirds, enough yapping and self-glazing. Go solve this yourselves.â She shut the door.
He took a step back and turned to look at you. âWell well, looks like it's just you and me,â he purred in delight, like a predator who just managed to corner prey. But- was that a bit of nervousness behind the overly extroverted mask he put on?
No, that couldn't be. He spoke like he was entirely confident you actually liked him. Of course he was. He was Neito Monoma, after all.
â§Bonus Yo Shindo had decided to go for the shock factor as well, not wanting to be outshone by his classmates. He was the one who had organized the party, after all, with the help of Tatami. As the day unraveled, he wasn't shy of making disgusted faces by the random outsiders who had had decided to show up to the party, but tried to stay respectful when it came to his classmates, only letting out a couple of laughs at their expense.
Finishing another round and getting another drink, he froze when he saw you had put his face on the cake. He frowned, eyes wide for a second, registering, then let out a wicked grin before going back to what he was doing. He undoubtedly would have to go and tease you for that later, try and drill the information out of you if it was real or fake. After all, he couldn't just stand around not knowing! But for the sake of the party, he let it go when you said nothing else to him that day. Oh, but he was going to make sure you never pulled another prank on him again, if it wasn't real. And if it was, he was going to have some fun playing with you...
