es algo muy suave, que invisible, silenciosamente está tirando de mí: como un hilo o red de hilos, más finos y elásticos que una tela de araña. todavía no he comprobado su resistencia. no se trata de un anzuelo, nada mordí ni me desgarró. ¿fue hace poco cuando este hilo comenzó a tirar de mi? ¿o fue hace mucho? ¿acaso habré nacido con el nudo alrededor del cuello, a modo de brida? no es miedo, sino una ráfaga de agitación lo que me hace contener el aliento, al sentir el tirón, cuando ya empezaba a creer que se había desatado y desaparecido.

The Thread Something is very gently, invisibly, silently, pulling at me-a thread or net of threads finer than cobweb and as elastic. I haven't tried the strength of it. No barbed hook pierced and tore me. Was it not long ago this thread began to draw me? Or way back? Was I born with its knot about my neck, a bridle? Not fear but a stirring of wonder makes me catch my breath when I feel the tug of it when I thought it had loosened itself and gone.
the secret
Two girls discover the secret of life in a sudden line of poetry. I who don’t know the secret wrote the line. They told me (through a third person) they had found it but not what it was not even what line it was. No doubt by now, more than a week later, they have forgotten the secret, the line, the name of the poem. I love them for finding what I can’t find, and for loving me for the line I wrote, and for forgetting it so that a thousand times, till death finds them, they may discover it again, in other lines in other happenings. And for wanting to know it, for assuming there is such a secret, yes, for that most of all.
