A creeping, feline smile spreads across Stiles’ face like a plague. 

Derek slowly steps back until the soft, fleshy part of his knees collides with the arm of the sofa. He sits instinctively.

“You don’t have to be afraid of me,” Stiles purrs. He’s standing above Derek now, looking down at him through too-black eyes, bright with arrogance. “It’s not like I’m the devil. Now, him - him you should be afraid of.”

Derek swallows the lump in his throat. This isn’t Stiles. It can’t be.

“Are you possessed?”

He follows the strange beckoning sensation, like an echo of a voice in his head and a gentle tug, putting one foot in front of the other until he’s standing in front of the lake. His favorite place in the woods. His favorite place in the world. He smiles and lets the pleasant sensation of being in the right place wash over him.

There’s a small ripple in the lake, and Derek watches as it gets bigger and bigger until two points and then a head emerge from the water.
