Degania is a Jewish agricultural settlement established on land purchased by the Jewish National Fund in 1909 near Tiberius when the land was still under the control of the Ottoman Empire. Degania was a small agricultural settlement and the first established kvutza, which was distinguished from a kibbutz in that a kvutza was smaller, focused on agricultural activity elusively, and did not intend to drastically expand in size like some kibbutzim.
During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the Battle for Degania was one of the first battles of the war and a part of a series of battles between the Syrian Army and Israelis in the Kinarot Valley. Although the Syrian Army suffered a defeat and was forced to retreat from Degania, much of the kibbutz was destroyed in the battle. Following the battle, Degania was rebuilt and still exists to this day. In 2007, Degania voted to privatize; an event which was covered in the documentary Degania: The First Kibbutz Fights Its Last Battle.

Heute beginnt das Pessach-Fest mit dem Sederabend. Vor 20 Jahren lag Pessach im Kalender unmittelbar vor der Unterzeichnung des WBC-Vertrags. Danny Bobman, internationaler Sekretär der Awoda-Jugend (oben im Bild zusammen mit Harald Schrapers), hatte die Juso-Delegation in seinen Heimatkibbuz Degania eingeladen. Degania, gegründet 1910, ist der älteste Kibbuz in Israel und somit ein historischer Ort des Sozialismus. 1996 wurde der Sederabend im zentralen Kibbuz-Speisesaal begangen, und das Festmahl wurde mit Vorführungen auf der Bühne begleitet, die an den Auszug es jüdischen Volkes aus Ägypten erinnerten. Heute gibt es dieses große Gemeinschaftsfest im Speisesaal nicht mehr, stattdessen wird Pessach auch in Degania im Kreis der Familie gefeiert.
