Food For Thought
Only a few weeks ago we were reading headlines like these:
âWhy are UK supermarkets facing fresh food shortages?â Â (Guardian: 22/02/23)
âTesco has followed Aldi, Asda and Morrisons in introducing customer limits on certain fresh fruit and vegetables as shelves are stripped bare at supermarkets across the UK.â Â (Mirror: 22/02/23)
And more recently we have this
âSupermarket shelves face more fruit and veg shortages"Â (Retail Gazette: 02/05/23)
What is our government doing to help alleviate this problem? Absolutely nothing! Rishi Sunak is always telling us that our priorities are his priorities but his government has ABANDONED the horticultural sector of our economy, and with it the guaranteed supply of fruit, vegetables and salad.
Last June the government promised to come up with a strategy to help British fruit and vegetable growers with "sky-high" input costs and labour shortages, which were pricing home growers out of the market. This week, the government went back on its word leading to the âFarmers Weekly" leading with this headline:
âDitching of English horticulture strategy âbeggars beliefâ (Farmers Weekly: 03/05/23)
What this means for the hard-pressed British consumer, as home grown fruit and vegetable production falls, is higher prices and the increased likelihood of fruit and vegetable shortages as we become more reliant upon overseas suppliers.
Common sense tells us that food security should be one of the top priorities of any government, yet Sunakâs government is so intent on controlling migrants that they wont allow enough seasonal workers into Britain to harvest our fruit and vegetable crops. Nor will they adequately compensate for the additional costs in energy, preferring instead to give tax breaks to their wealthy friends. Consequently, many growers are simply giving up their businesses, thereby making the UK more reliant upon foreign imports.
We saw what happened when rising energy costs and bad weather affected the production of European fruit, vegetables and salad products during the winter months. Unlike Sunakâs government, European governments put their citizens first, so when there were shortages over the winter, supplies stayed in the EU prompting headlines like this:
âEuropeans mock UK shoppers with photos of supermarket shelves full of fresh fruit and veg." (Mirror: 22/02/23)
Not only can we expect more headlines like that if we donât secure our own home-grown food supplies but we can can also expect the food-price inflation to continue to rise.

The mass destruction begins tomorrow
Tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd of August 2017 will begin the disgusting & devastating work of felling many hundreds of HEALTHY Sheffield Street Trees. (It may well turn out to be thousands more as time goes on!) Â This work being now protected by a bad law.
But, what an absolute privilege it was to be able to attend the Sheffield Street Trees meeting last night. OVER 150 folks crammed into the Banner Cross pub upstairs room. Passionate, sensible, reasoned and even joking amongst all the recent bad news and bad decisions & bad laws.Â
Paul Brooke explained magnificently the situation we face. The chair (sorry I did not get his name) was brilliant too. Many folks expressed so many useful and sensible ideas. Alison Teal, Calvin Payne and Dave Dillner the âTree Defendersâ were in attendance. Words cannot express the many folks gratitude to you all.
We will not lose this. After seeing  hearing these folks once again I know the war will be won in the end and that Sheffield City Council & Amey / Ferrovial (Spain) will be tarnished forever as vandals of the natural environment. The last pic shows how 'Delilah' on Rustlings road has been 'replaced'!!!Â
Evil, evil, stupid, money focussed people / corporations will not beat us... Â #Time4BIGChange #SaveSheffTreesÂ
Sure, one tiny sapling replaces a mature, large canopy, healthy street tree! Yeh right

Exclusive: The five-yearly assessment of what will happen to the UK as the world warms says one of an array of potential threats is the âsignificant riskâ to supplies of food
The Government has been accused of trying to bury a major report about the potential dangers of global warming to Britain â including the doubling of the deaths during heatwaves, a âsignificant riskâ to supplies of food and the prospect of infrastructure damage from flooding.
The UK Climate Change Risk Assessment Report, which by law has to be produced every five years, was published with little fanfare on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairsâ (Defra) website on 18 January.
But, despite its undoubted importance, Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom made no speech and did not issue her own statement, and even the Defra Twitter account was silent. No mainstream media organisation covered the report.
Why do I think leftists are useless âpeopleâ?
People often ask me, why do I think leftists are useless âpeopleâ with nothing to say, and the answer has to be because any attempt at discussion will degenerate as follows.
They refuse to examine evidence that contradicts their bigoted views.
They only trust evidence if it affirms their views - in short, if it is âtruthyâ.
They deliberately mischaracterise any arguments their opponents make.
They will, if resistance remains, escalate to slurs, then threats, then violence. They lack the human capacity to reason, and so violence is inevitable when dealing with them.
I posed the question:
âDefra in the UK says it plans to make Britain less white, and to remove dogs because they offend Muslims. Why do Starmerists hate their own people more than any hate movement in the history of history itself?â
I did this because I knew Leftists would be baited, and rather than debate the evidence - most are already aware of it anyway - they would attempt to sabotage the discussion.
Leftist:
âDefra controls the environment, fisheries and agriculture. It has no control over the countries racial demographic. It cannot make Britain less white. Also they cannot remove dogs because some Muslims do not like them. They can stipulate what types of dog breeds are inappropriate (vicious bull terriers types typically. But they cannot ban dogs.â
Me: https://youtu.be/XFjppbfvg-8
It seems like Defra doesnât agree.
(See interview at start, video of the Defra interview is available from many souces e.g. https://www.tiktok.com/@chrisysohtq/video/7602371449193647382)
Also see:
Defra's new diversity plans aim to reshape the traditional image of the countryside.
The Leftist replied:
âFirstly Iâm not sure what the YouTube comic video is about as the voice is too muffled and it just looks like some sort of punk nuisance compilation not relevant to the issue, so Iâll ignore that. Secondly you refer to an online express newspaper article. The express online is not a reputable newspapâŚâ
(So notice the tactics here - poison the well by dismissing the evidence as being âcomicâ, âpunk nuisanceâ and claiming that the Defra interview is inaudible - it wasnât, and even if it was there were other videos of it all over the internet - and subtitles are a thing that has existed for a very long time ...)
âIâm not sure what the YouTube comic video is â
I replied:
âIt was a recording of Defra. I understand that you might refuse to see it but there was nothing stopping you seeing the same recording from other sources. â
Leftist: â The express online is not a reputable newspaper nowadays. Itâs very right wingâ
My reply:
Ok, so the way you know evidence is incorrect is that it disagrees with existing biases.
Why Arguing With a Close-Minded Person Is Futile
And weâre done.
So notice that the Leftist firstly point blank refuses to read or hear any information they dislike, then attempts to poison the well just in case a normal human reads their reply and realises how crazy it is, and then they dismiss the views of the majority of humans as âvery right wingâ - and therefore to be discarded without a thought.
The interesting thing is that most conservatives can read and analyse left wing sources - they just donât have to agree. They can do the same with right wing sources. In short, conservatives are far more likely to be informed of opposing arguments.
Whereas Leftists just want to kill everyone with different ideas, because they know, if they listen, they might not be able to stay a Leftist any more âŚ
