buddie — probably no secret, but i think they're....... meh? even outside of fandom drama, (that has taken up TWO FUCKING YEARS OF MY LIFE dear LORD) i think they'd be pretty bad for each other and—while they do make great work partners—they're just... incompatible in a romantic relationship. eddie finds buck to be "too much" all the time. i think ryan guzman has said that eddie finds buck to be more like... a second child? and i think that kinda fits them. eddie's behavior for buck reads (to me) like a childless uncle hanging around his nieces and nephews. he loves them. he won't say no to hanging out with them. but when he's done with them and goes home, he finds himself grateful that he doesn't have kids of his own. that's eddie and buck to me. they're friends, but if eddie had to deal with buck 24/7?? awful. disastrous. HOWEVER. i do find the idea of them getting together because of pressure from the people around them ("despite what everyone thinks" WHO is everyone, buck?? you deal with this.... often?) to be interesting. like, the 118 doesn't really see buck and eddie fight. the fights where they're at each others throats are in private places and aren't really..... talked about later, they're just brushed under the rug. so the concept of the 118 going: "omg FINALLYYYYYY" to buck and eddie getting together and being unable to see how BAD they can be to each other is oughh. that's yummy.
madney — i think they're cute! i've never been crazy over them and tbh when i found out that eddie and maddie were the original pairing to be coupled up, my reaction was "...oh! i would have liked to see that." this isn't anything against madney as a couple, but i do feel like it limits chimney's story arcs in particular? being paired up with THEEE jennifer love hewitt did kinda fuck up chim's character. sorry 😭 but yeah, i don't hate them, nor do i find them boring by any means, i just think they're just. there. cute! but there.
