Why Bruce Banner is my Favorite Superhero
Bruce Banner. He has a million reasons to hate the world, but what saved him in the comics was saving Rick Jones. His compassion is what made him a hero. Bruce may have had his Hulks before gamma, but thinking of other people is what gave him powers.
He struggled with the (tw: mental illness, death, depression) the loss of his mother, the betrayal of his father, his Dissociative Identity Disorder, attempted to break free of generational trauma, has been homeless, on the run, hunted, experimented on, mind-controlled--you name it and he's probably survived it.||
He sold his soul to Ross and destruction because he wanted money, not for himself, but to create things that would help heal people. Or power the future.
He struggles with anger and his emotions because he *cares*. Anger and rage are secondary emotions born of a sense of unfairness and pain and fear. And he falters, as everyone does, in his quest to be his better self, but he tries. Again and again he tries. He loves science because despite everything he still finds joy in the universe. Bruce Banner is a optimist deep down. The difference is he knows optimism is not without struggle. And it requires action for hopes to become reality.
