the mulled wine had done wonders to dull the chill, but still—feyre’s nose was flushed pink much like her cheeks, and if she wasn’t animatedly chatting while being ushered into the house, her teeth were chattering. she had suggested her sisters try a new restaurant for their weekly get-together and it happened to be further from home than she was expecting; the walk had invigorated her heart, always joyous to see the people of velaris and the city bustling as she walked arm in arm with nesta. their limbs were no longer interlocked once they had made it inside – instead, nesta’s hands were on feyre’s shoulders, all but steering her forward to stop the youngest from knocking into a variety of furniture.
elain had excused herself with a giggle, wandering to the kitchen in search of pain dulling powder to stir into water, which was something they’d had to do on nights of too much drinking before. while she wandered off, feyre slurred, “i’m fine!”
her only response was a snort of laughter from nesta behind her.
waving a dismissive hand, the youngest archeron continued her forced journey with only minimal tripping up the stairs. before she knew it, she was underneath her thick duvet, husband and mate nowhere to be found while her eldest sister perched on the mattress next to her. she began to babble, stubborn to the instructions of being told to lay down and rest even as elain had arrived with a tray of glasses. feyre barely registered, since the middle sister left as soon as she’d appeared, teasing as nesta had to deal with an inebriated feyre alone.
after dutifully drinking some water, the high lady was unceremoniously pushed back into a laying position and tucked in tightly. pursing her lips, feyre glowered at being coddled, trying to make light of it with a drawl. “now i just need a nightlight and a kiss on the forehead.” whatever discontent that lingered was replaced with surprise as nesta, after her own quip, leant down to press a chaste kiss to feyre’s forehead before she made to move from the room. blinking in the dark, the axis of the world spinning thanks to the alcohol, she managed to regain composure for a moment to say to her retreating sister: “love you, nes.”
