“CONCRETE” is the blustery lead single from SHAME’s debut LP ‘Songs of Praise.’
The South London based band, consisting of vocalist Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith & Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty, and drummer Charlie Forbe immerse themselves in straight to the bone post-punk, with a penchant for getting shouty as heard on their debut single. “Concrete” has a little for everyone as it utilizes a propulsive rhythm, ringing guitars, and voices that oscillate between deadpan to hardcore-like barking all while deploying a call-and-response structure.
Much will be made of the band’s whiteness, gender, and something something 2018......because that seems to be more important these days than say the little details, like the very U2-like fits of guitar squall that make their presence felt throughout the track or the fact that a guitar based band is making headway in these times of fascist Poptimism.
Anyways, “I hope that you’re hearing me” is the most distinct line in the song, and the answer Mr. Steen is yes, loud & clear! Press play and enjoy the rawkus......
