Depeche Mode: a demo mixtape do verão de 1980
Antes de se tornarem um dos grupos mais influentes do mundo, os Depeche Mode eram apenas uma banda de garotos punk new wave chamada Composition of Sound. Vince Clarke e Andy Fletcher, que já formavam o duo No Romance, se juntaram ao guitarrista Martin Lee Gore em 1977. Somente em 1980 recrutaram Dave Gahan para assumir os vocais.
Eles já haviam gravado uma fita demo anterior a chegada de Dave. Mas a segunda fita - que você pode ouvir no vídeo acima - foi crucial para a formação da identidade sonora do Depeche Mode como nós o conhecemos até hoje.
Músicas
O tape contém três faixas: Ice Machine, Radio News e Photographic. Todas compostas por Vince Clarke.
Ice Machine foi gravada em 1981 e lançada somente como b-side do single Dreaming of Me, pela label Mute Records.
Photographic também foi gravada em 1981 e é uma das faixas do álbum Speak & Spell (Mute Records).
Já a track Radio News nunca foi lançada oficialmente, tendo sido tocada apenas uma vez durante a turnê de 1980.
