The Washington Post delivered a gem of an article today and it made me laugh sooo hard. First reason being, because having a columnist trying to explain DC slang in an article is hilarious. It's like Urban Dictionary crashed into the Washington Post and made a "DC Slang For Dummies". Secondly, the section where the columnist tried to explain "Jont" is so dead on and is something that I need to email to all my Boston friends. Anyone from DC who uses "Jont" in their vocabulary and has attempted to explain it to someone not from the DMV, good luck because it's almost impossible. The only thing that I can try to compare it to is coño in Spanish, in the fact that it can mean a million different things, yet everyone who speaks the lingo gets what it's supposed to mean in the particular sentence.
I can't explain how many times I've tried to break it down to my northern friends, but it's just not gonna happen. What I have concluded is, like the Washington Post slogan, "if you don't get it you don't get it".

I love being a Washington DC Native. I love everything about DC...expect one little thing.
And that's how WE talk. Our lingo, our slang, our accent...When people meet me for the first time they ask "where you from?" After saying here or DC they look puzzled like you don't sound like it and at that very moment its like I feel accomplished or something...lol. I don't know, I can't stand how we talk.
I know every city/area has their own lingo/language and that absolutely fine.
The only thing that disturbs me the fact that it sounds so....Ghetto. Call me bourgeoisie all you want but when I visit certain friends or family members I cringe at that way they talk. And another thing...why does it seem like majority of the females talk like dudes.
for example-
A female: Aye Son, you tryna ball?
Male: nahhhh.
Female: Young!!!!! why you faking doe?
Omg, just writing that irked my nerve. Now, this does not apply to everyone that lives in or by DC, because clearly I don't talk like that. However, I once did...so I feel like I have the right to clown my own people.
Words like:
joint- that joint was wack.
bait & smack - I'm about to go smack at the bait, son.
doe- yeah doe!
siced- I'm siced I don't have to take a pee test! (Thank you Atomsforpizza)
Just to name a few, you will not hear those words come out of my mouth..sighs.
