I know the canon explanation as to why Kara doesn't realize that Alice is an android despite having seen that magazine cover is that she doesn't want to face the truth.
But hear me out: Facial recognition impaired Kara.
I can't tell faces apart easily myself. It takes focus, so I never made the connection between Alice and the magazine girl with the totally different hairstyle and wearing different clothes.
This headcanon can also be used for Connor when he claims that he doesn't remember Officer Wilson. Of course Connor remembers that he saved a cop. Like with pigeons, there are subtle differences between cops, only those don't jump into the face. All Connor can be certain of is that this man is neither Gavin nor Hank and he may have a vague idea that it's not Tina either (okay, that last one was hyperbole, but you get the gist).
If Kara and/or Connor take the time to properly scan their conversation partner, they can recognize them. But not on first sight.

Connor discovers the sad truth about Hank
*At a crime scene*
Connor *arm cut off from fight with a criminal*: Hey Hank
Hank: ya?
Connor *holds out dismembered arm*: Do you need a hand?

Just....one day Gavin and Nines receive a case that is really hard to solve and stuff, and like, it's been a few days right? Well, Gavin refuses to lose any time, and wants to solve the case right NOW.
Nines sees him going into work mode and like, scans him over and just goes, "You need to eat and shower, Detective" and Gavin just tells him no. To his face.
Now Nines is calm, and repeats the same thing, and Gavin says no again.
"That wasnt a request detective" comes from Nines' mouth and Gavin just has an oh shit moment where he just up and runs from his desk cause that's a No-No Tone. He tries to hide in the archives room and Nines is just prowling around going
