AKA- Me analyzing Ghostfaceâs character after reading his tome in class đ€đ€đ€
Spoiler Warning Ahead- Ghostfaceâs Archives
Iâm not going to lie, Iâm kind of a perfectionist. Iâve spent a while trying to analyze Ghostface and write him as closest to canon as possible lmfao- and this isnât me trying to tell people how to write Ghostface..you can write him however you want, itâs just my interpretationâŠso yeah- Let me know if thereâs anything I missed!
I- Daddy Issues + Origin
The only thing known about Dannyâs family is his Father, who was also a murderer who loved to share horror stories, just like him.
His father was hard on him, told him terrifying stories of his kills, and was âas tough as nailsâ - and when your father is a serial killer, a man whoâs already prone to lots of violence, you can guess the things heâs done to him
Still, Danny respected his father, but he did kill him, and his father was his first âdesignâ - his first kill - and Danny felt ashamed of the way he killed him.
And for the nature v nurture debate for Danny, I guess we have an answerâŠboth. Not only did he get his Homicidal tendencies from genetics, but his father literally taught him to kill too
Dannyâs father affects his perspective greatly, especially how he views life and humanity, saying that humans are âintrinsic killersâ
II- The Design + How Danny views murder
Itâs easy to tell that Danny is a narcissist and a psychopath, I mean, he literally writes about his murders in the paper
He sees his murders as a story, a design, art, something to keep the suburban community aka the majority and the ordinary at unrest. He sees it as a favor, help keeping their lives interesting by scaring the shit out of them
Danny goes after the ordinary, someone most people can relate to, and someone who doesnât deserve to die, because it makes it just the more terrifying
He follows his victims routines, plans out the murder in his head, pictures the kill, and the headlines heâll write about it and then executes it
III- Personality + Pet Peeves
Danny is a perfectionist, but he also seems a little more restrained compared to the other dbd killers. He stalks his prey, holds back and plans his kill, waiting for the right momentâŠfor the most part.
His ânormalâ personality- Jed is a charming and kind, but non-threatening presence and he knows he has to seem like that to avoid suspicion, duh, and easily manipulate people, so theyâll just be like âoh good old Jed, he wouldnât hurt a flyâ bullshit
But what really pisses Danny off when people donât fear Ghostface, when they view him as an âurban legendâ - OR when ordinary people or losers try to act like killers, like him (EX: âThe three stoogesâ who talked about killing and had the pictures of killers up on the wallâŠkillers that Danny admired and deemed âlegendsâ and he went fucking crazy, stabbing one of the men in the face so many times that he was unrecognizable)
Danny wants people to take what he does seriously, he is aware of the impact of his actions, and what heâs doing, so if and when he finds out someone is laughing about it? Laughing at him? He gets pissed
So there are certain triggers that can make Danny snap, just like anyone else. But when he snapsâŠhe becomes very violent, much more violent than usual
Because Danny takes his designs seriously, does this mean heâs a serious person? Not at all. Heâs cruel, and taunts the men he kills in the arcade, and also the man he killed in the hardware store
Heâs having a very fun time, as you can see here, humming to himself and doing his little taunting wave before he kills the poor man working at the register (RIP Cashier)
IV- Killing + Entityâs Favorite
Most of, if not all the things Danny does have to do with his design. Heâs either writing, searching for his next victim, stalking his next victim, or killing
Thereâs not a lot of Dannyâs life that doesnât have to do with murder, especially since he was raised to be a killer
Which is why when he was a perfect candidate to be taken by The Entity. While some other killers have been brainwashed or turned into monsters, Dannyâs mental state doesnât change in the slightest, when you read the quotes of his add ons
In fact, he enjoys The Entityâs dimension. Itâs a place where he can murder and stalk and do as he pleases, and doesnât have to worry about getting caught or pretending to be normal. He can just be his murderous psycho self.

I've said it before but a lot of DBD's newer killers suffer heavily not only from bad lore but from the common mistake in over-explaining a slasher. While fleshing them out is okay and even humanising them, to an extent, can both add a human element and make them more frightening because if that human element it's generally agreed upon that the more streamlined a killer's motivation and backstory the better. Freddy Krueger was an evil child-killing psychopath so evil in life he returned as a vengeful revenant in death...until he was the bastard son of a hundred maniacs who owes his allegiance to dream demons. Michael Myers is the embodiment of pure evil, devoid of any semblance of life behind his cold, black eyes...oh and also he's secretly controlled by a thorn cult who must sacrifice an entire bloodline for... Reasons.
I went and actually timed how long it took to scroll through the lore of DBD's worst offenders, the Artist and the Skull Merchant. Artist took 8.35 seconds and Skull Merchant took 10.5 seconds, and this is solely a critique of how overdone their lore is, that's not getting into how fucking BAD it is.
For the record, most of the licensed killers are all around sub 5 seconds and would be even shorter considering their lore tabs focus more on how they got to the entity's realm and what their thoughts and motivations are now that they're in it.
Then you go and look at some of DBD's earliest killers like the Trapper, Nurse, Wraith and Doctor, all of whom have masterfully short and sweet lore tabs that tell you who they were and what they did to end up on the entity's realm, all of whom quite frankly got retroactively worse written when they introduced the archives
You know maybe Docs tome entry was less him being dumb and more just batshit insane. Like Tesla! Completely brilliant but hallucinates regularly and makes pretty dumb decisions.
{ I respect your right to interpret the character however you like, but I disagree with that take.đ
I always imagined Pre-Entity Herman as being very smart and in control of himself. Heâs âcrazyâ the way a narcissistic sociopath is crazy, which is VERY different from the way someone suffering from psychosis is âcrazy.âÂ
I feel like heâs in complete control of his actions, and knows exactly what heâs doing. Itâs my headcanon that he doesnât truly start losing his mind and having delusions until he snaps, murders everyone, and gets taken by the Entity.
His archive doesnât portray him like this however.Â
At the first chance he gets, Archive!Herman completely sabotages himself on impulse. Youâd think someone with a genius-level understanding of psychology would be able identify and regulate their emotions better. He seems unfocused and unable to gauge whatâs important. For example, this Herman seems to think itâs worth it to flush his entire career down the toilet for a chance to play Josef Mengele for 3 days.Â
Archive Hermanâs stupidity is analogous to the way his entire Archive is written. In order to explain it better Iâd have to unpack the whole thing, and Iâll do that another time. }
they didnt say a damn thing about Megâs sexuality (hell yes) and they talked about her mother a LOT and we have a pretty good idea of what she was like (FUCK YES) and Meg being a SPITEFUL BITCH is the best news ive ever heard IN MY LIFE

Okay, so, weird time to mention. But do the memory numbers mean anything? Is it like... an order? Or are they simply just randomly numbered? I mean like the memories in the Archives.
Okay folks new ask game send me a dead by daylight character who hasn't had an Archive Tome dedicated to themyet and I'll write a trademarked spoiler of where I think it'll go based off of past archives and trademark it so copyright keeps the devs from fucking that up and they have to do betterâ
