Road To Avonlea - Season 2, ep. 04 (Of Corsets & True, True Love) Pt. 1

**Rachel Lynde is suffering from a terrible toothache and driving Marilla Cuthbert crazy. The two attend the funeral of one of Marilla's relatives who has died, leaving behind two children, Davy and Dora Keith. The two are awaiting the arrival of an uncle who has promised to take them in. Although Marilla would like to take them in herself, Rachel, in a particularly cranky mood forbids it and they go with a foster parent.

Meanwhile, Olivia King arrives at Green Gables to do a surprise feature about Rachel for the Avonlea Chronicle, aided by her niece, Sara Stanley. A frantic Rachel runs to get dressed and Marilla tells the two that there are some of Rachel's things in the storage room that they can look through for the article. As they rummage through the items, including a picture of a young Rachel, they come across a lock of hair and the picture of a young man who Olivia claims is not Rachel's husband!

“Anne gave him such a serious lecture on the sin of stealing plum jam that Davy became conscience stricken and promised with repentant kisses never to do it again.

"Anyhow, there’ll be plenty of jam in heaven, that’s one comfort,” he said complacently. Anne nipped a smile in the bud.

“Perhaps there will . . . if we want it,” she said, “But what makes you think so?” “Why, it’s in the catechism,” said Davy. “Oh, no, there is nothing like that in the catechism, Davy.”

“But I tell you there is,” persisted Davy. “It was in that question Marilla taught me last Sunday. ‘Why should we love God?’ It says, ‘Because He makes preserves, and redeems us.’ Preserves is just a holy way of saying jam.”

“I must get a drink of water,” said Anne hastily. When she came back it cost her some time and trouble to explain to Davy that a certain comma in the said catechism question made a great deal of difference in the meaning."
