Hetty King, Davey and Dora - Road To Avonlea
Haven't read it yet but LMM did Dora Keith so dirty and it made me feel really called out for ignoring 'good introverts' as boring lol ....
aahhh, very much agree! i am much more of a dora than a davy and also always took the way dora was written rather personally. ngl rereading the davy & dora bits of the books was kind of an exercise in frustration -- the shed incident most noticeably since it brings in anne and how she makes the whole thing about davy's feelings, but there's a bunch of background incidents (dora falling into the pigpen! dora falling down the stairs! davy cutting up all of dora's aprons!) that all get written off like it doesn't really matter that these things happen to dora, because only a boring, staid girl would care about behaving well or keeping her clothes clean, and such a girl doesn't need affection anyway. it was unpleasant :/
(anne of green gables) i can see you

"One time…Davy and I came over to see the parrot," she continues. "But Mr. Harrison had locked it up, of course. We tried to talk to it through the door but it didn't work — not until Davy kicked the door, anyway, then the parrot started swearing an absolute storm. We ran out, we were so frightened someone would hear it and think it was us — can you imagine?" Paul has to laugh at the thought of the twins hurtling out of the house as though the devil had caught them. "And what did Teacher and Miss Cuthbert say when they saw you?" "Oh. Well, I don't know." Dora's hand flutters to her mouth, as though she wants to cover it, push the words back. After a moment, though, all she says is, "Davy locked me in the shed. So I couldn't go home." Tales and secrets. It occurs to Paul that Dora Keith has a few of her own, too.

Road To Avonlea - Season 6, ep. 10 (Home Is Where The Heart Is)
**After recovering from a stroke, Rachel Lynde is desperate to return to Green Gables, getting away from her loving but overbearing sons and back to orphans Davey and Dora. On the train, Rachel suffers another stroke and is taken to a hospital, unable to speak. Meanwhile, Davey and Dora wait at the train station for Rachel to arrive and are disappointed when she fails to show. Hetty and Olivia try not to panic but the twins feel something is wrong. At the hospital, Rachel tries to communicate but is unable to and has no form of identification on her. In the middle of the night, she makes her escape and is relieved when the conductor lets her board the train to Avonlea without a ticket. Arriving at the Avonlea train station, there is no one there to greet her, so Rachel decides to walk to Rose Cottage. At the house Davey and Dora are shoveling the walk when they see Rachel lying in the snow and they run to her...

Also, thinking about Dora being always the least loved puts that comment about her wanting to marry Ralph Andrews at a yound age so that she doesn't risk being left an old maid in a different light if Dora knows she's the least loved.
I was thinking abt Davy and Dora a bunch lately for some reason and I always assumed that Davy would've gotten an ADHD diagnosis the minute it was invented, but last night I was also thinking that, on top of that, these children did not have a great childhood. And I mean, we know that, but for some reason--maybe cause I first read it when I was around 8 and also cause Davy and Dora are caricatures--it went over my head that neither of them mourn their mother. You might even say that Dora has a fawn response.
Do you know these twins? (Dora and Davy Keith)
Yes, I know them well
I know where they’re from, but not much else about them
I don’t know, but they seem familiar
Never heard of them
