SINGAPORE YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES 2010 DRUM SESSION!
So last August we went to Singapore and had drumming sessions with the wonderful athletes from the Singapore Youth Olympic Games. The 8 days drumming sessions took place at the Youth Olympics Village. Not that we're flattering ourselves but the event was a huge success and we had blast! Just check these videos and see for yourself. Leave us comments, love/hate? You decide.
Led by David Fotheringham, the YOG community and Champions got together and rocked their beat!
"The end of our LAST community drumming session with Alex Popov et al - captured for posterity..! Amazing that Alex Popov is exactly twice the height of Zul but Zul's smile is 4 times bigger than anyone elses!! Well done to all the Asia Ability Youth Olympic Games crew - FANTASTIC atmosphere!" - David Powell, Asia Ability Managing Director.

"SAFETY MANAGEMENT IS OUR PRIORITY," DAVID POWELL SPEAKS TO TTGMICE
We've just received our copy of the latest TTGmice (Asia-Pacific's leading meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions resource) and we're so excited to see our managing director, David Powell featured on page 23! Read the interview below:

Established in 1996, Asia Ability has offices in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam, and also holds regular events in Australia, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines and Indonesia. Each of its team programmes falls under one of eight abilities – Activeability, Businessability, Createability, Exploreability, Innovateability, Interactability, Responsability and Rhythmability.
Paige Lee Pei Qi speaks to managing director David Powell.
How do you assess a client’s ability to do an adventure?
The key part of the event design process is to align the desire, preferences, profile of participants and their physical ability to the proposed team adventure activity. Once the programme and activities are finalised, and the participants are selected by the client, each individual would be requested to provide a brief medical history and any specific dietary requirements.
Have you ever said no?
We have indeed declined clients who have requested specific adventure activities for their teams. Safety is Asia Ability’s top and a non-negotiable priority and if we do not believe that a particular activity, venue, external provider or weather conditions will allow the event to be conducted, we will decline, although in most cases we will propose an alternative.
How do you prep up the team before the big event? Any training required?
We provide a detailed event briefing well in advance – this is normally in written format and includes an equipment list, an outline of the itinerary, tips for success and training suggestions. Some clients arrange for this briefing to be done in a face-to-face presentation which works well when logistically possible as it already begins the team development process.
Depending on the nature of the activity and the level of physical challenge, training is recommended. For multi-day adventures it works well for teams to be formed in advance and for teams to do some training together.
SEEING "THE BIG PICTURE" AT TRADERS HOTEL, PUTERI HARBOUR, JOHOR
120 leaders from Jones Lang Lasalle gathered at the Traders Hotel, Puteri Harbour at Johor for the IFM 100 Leaders Conference, which takes place from the 26th to 28th of May. Asia Ability went down on the 26th to conduct “The Big Picture” event, as part of team building and to provide a visual identity for the conference.
Scheduled after lunch as a “perk-up” activity, the participants are first given a brief by Lead Facilitator of the day, David Powell, on the execution, flow of the activity and the rules in which they must abide. After which they were split into groups of 6 or 7 and ushered into the activity room where their canvases were waiting. Immediately, the participants got excited and started discussing how they were going to start, even before sizing up the other materials that were placed on the table. After some prompting by the facilitators, the participants opened up the booklet on the table and found the art quizzes. These must be completed in order to obtain paintbrushes, which are crucial for the painting activity. However, David Powell made a sudden announcement for a coverall race, with promise of additional painting materials. This caused a huge ruckus as the participants scrambled to retrieve their coveralls and put them on.
