SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: JAZZY-HOP CHRONICLES
Wassup folks! Are you ready for anotha supa-dupa selection of jazzy-hop tunes?
This is Jazzy-Hop Chronicles and itâ s betta if you take your best headphones and amplify the volume!!
We start with a massive track Proceed 2 by The Roots. This single is included on the Rootsâs sophomore album Do You Want More released in 1995! In this case they joined with jazz-legend composer Roy Ayers. The result is a real rare masterpiece where undeground avant-garde embrace jazz groove.
High levels, scratchers! The supa re-arrangement sequel of Robert Glasper Experimentâs Black Radio is a milestone in a black music scene. Black Radio Recovered includes the contribute of many masterful producers: Georgia Anne Muldrow, 9th Wonder and Pete Rock that put his wise hands on the single Black Radio with Mos Def (he kills the beat).
We had already talked about Revolutionary Rhythm. Itâs not easy find something really good about jazzy-hop but  we think this young and flashy collective from Los Angeles make real thoughtful jazzy-hop production as you can realize listening to Calystiles.
Thinking about a jazzy-hop selection itâs impossible donât mention Funky DL. This smart underground beatmaker from UK dropped some flawless stuff and revisitations of hip hop classics like his project Jazzmatic that revoke Illmatic classic street album by Nasir Jones. Jazzmatic is a spectacular remix in a jazz key of Nas tunes. What do you think about One Love?
Surely if you are an expert jazzy-hop taster Kero One will be a familiar name. Frisco emcee and producer is one of the most representative exponent of the jazzy-hop tendency. In 2009 Kero dropped Early Believers collaborating with Bristol acid-jazz sophisticated artist Ben Westbeech for the single Goodbye ForeverÂ
The next track is performed by Nashville rapper Count Bass D and produced by Tokyo based DJ/producer Grooveman Spot. The remix version of Love by DJ Mitsu The Beat grabbed our attention and we are sure that it will engage also your senses!
Jazz Hop is a tribute to this genre by talented argentinian beatmaker Gas-Lab with the collabo of Brooklyn rapper Traum Diggs. We promoted his album, because this is real art! Donât miss the vibe scratchers.
Pleaseeeee someone call a doctor! Put together Kev Brown and DJ Mitsu and the result is a shimmering supa-hot masterpiece. The good chemistry between jazz and hip hop is something special for your ears. The single is Yeah Yâall with Kev Brown, Rod Bridges aka Roddy Rod and the remix is by DJ Mitsu The Beats.
