Information overload & things to fix, not make worse
* data glut * information overload * microblogging message overload * not enough filtering, targeting * attention deficit * global community * self definition, self image More important than bombarding people with unfiltered information and new portals where you again find new and new media it's important to solve the attention deficit that results from the overwhelming amount of data online. What good is data if you can't make sense of it? Why read a hundred articles a day if we only remember five and are only engaged with two? Even this blog is too pale as it's a general purpose blog and nothing specific. It doesn't embrace a community, a style, just opinions about a hundred things and is too mainstream. These kinds of things should only be written on top of already finished work on a subject - have people embrace 'something' and only then they would feel a larger connection with you. A real connection doesn't come from rebloging cat photos or running general purpose blogs with random opinions. It comes from your exact work, from a defined work on specific subjects. If you lack this, then you fall into the grey goo that forms 99% of internet today. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing necessarily, since that's the way people interact and express their everyday lives online. But if you want to build a brand you must step outside of this goo, take a deep breath, relax and create. The creation becomes your brand. - We live in times when each and every information gets forwarded, revamped, copied and repeated a million times. This is a result of the media agencies playing safe in that they will offer you content that they know is trending and would catch your interest in that you want to elaborate on a current subject. The problem is that more often than not I find that there is the same information, jut repeated a million times. Articles become repetitive and what sets a product, event or commentary apart if if it's presented by an independent entity, a home user, consumer, someone who talks about hands on, about their own opinion. Then you'd need to filter through search results of opinions, hands on, unboxings and comments on current political events. You get a headache from all the repetitions. On the basis of this services like http://www.lumi.do LUMI or StumbleUpon were created - they want to present you something new based on your preferences and not the same subject over and over again. This is your filter. - We lack focus.
