Azalin Rex in the flesh
Darkon is one of the domains you could have a relatively normal life in. like yes there's the Kargat but the average person probably doesn't know about them because. secret police. yes there are so many serial killers everywhere for some reason (no I don't know why 5e included that) but like if you mind your business you'll maybe be fine. yes there is that thing where if you die in normal ways you come back undead but listen that isn't even a problem? most people burn bodies. which they shouldn't because Pietra van Riese needs an ethical supply of undead for her crew. and yes the big thing is that there is the Shroud, but most people think that's just a superstition!
provided you are an average person you could have a very normal, pleasant life in Darkon until you got summarily consumed by the Shroud !

the thing about the Domains of Dread is that a couple of them are like "what if you had to watch your world slowly be consumed by oblivion around you? what if your only escape from the domain is the thing that threatens the domain in the first place?"
and then there's "what if there was a boat? wouldn't that be fucked up?"
Watching Darkon is a real mood tonight
D&D Character Journal: Stuffed Eggs
Prianna’s Favorite Recipes from Other Domains: 3 / 25
Darkon is a place that makes my skin prickle, as if the land itself is quietly counting down what it plans to take from you. Every visit leaves me feeling closer to the grave than anywhere else in the domains, and that is saying something. Azalin Rex presides over it, if preside is even the right word. If people think Strahd is distant, they have never felt the hollow neglect that hangs over Darkon. Azalin does not watch. He does not care. He lets the place rot in its own shadow, frozen in a way that feels centuries behind the rest of the world. The food reflects that stagnation. Heavy. Old. Unconcerned with comfort or elegance. And yet, sometimes, that is exactly what it offers. Stuffed eggs are one of the few dishes from Darkon that stayed with me. They are nothing like the deviled eggs you find elsewhere. There is no lightness to them, no clever bite of mustard or vinegar. These are dense, spiced, fried things, rich with herbs and cheese and a weight that settles deep in your chest. They taste ancient, like something that has survived simply because it was useful and filling. I do not make them often, but when I do, I understand Darkon a little better. A place that does not care if you enjoy what you eat, only that you endure it.
