I'm having a Jewish Book Autumn, this is so great! If anyone has any good Jewish fiction (preferably historical and/or queer but I'm not very picky) recommendations I'd love to hear them!!

#so far I've read when the angels left the old country #which I thought was very good really gorgeously written. more a typical Ashkenazi coming to America story #but still a lot of great bits of originality and I'm always a big fan of the dismantling of the American dream and labour organisations #just finished reading the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay #which afsjgsflhst woahhhh I just finished?#oof kind of made me want to cry what with the themes of family and grief and love and creativity and friendship and legacy #though was kind of long and had a lot more unique interludes to the story #and now I'm about to start rereading the city beautiful #I tend to reread it every November even though it's set in July but anyway I'm really looking forward it #so yeah I want to keep Jewish book autumn going so I'd love any and all recommendations #jumblr #jewish books #darkeyedghost

ok so context for this is that I've got a somewhat complex mixed ethnic background which generally leads to me being mistaken for a whole host of different nationalities. i've also been working at an ice cream place recently and there's this guy who's somewhat of a regular and i often get him his double espresso. and so two days ago he came in with his friend and they were gesturing at me and discussing together softly until he yelled at me "HEY, you! Yeah, YOU! WHERE ARE YOU FROM, Algeria or Morocco?"

and honestly i was so taken aback right? but one set of grandparents did indeed immigrate from Morocco and this is one of the few times people have been accurate in guessing! and so i just responded "morocco!" and these two guys cheered in response lol

#also all my co-workers keep asking me where I'm from #and I'll just respond the city that I've been born and raised in because that undeniably feels the most accurate #and everything about identity nationality and ethnicity for me often feels very complicated #but then I'm always hit with the 'oh but are your parents from here as well ' and so then I've got to be like oh well no #came home to my family and told them this story which I thought is hilarious #they also found it funny #but my dad (who is where I get my Moroccan heritage from)#said but you're not Moroccan!#and I was like ok yeah I know the family nor I claim Moroccan identity on account of being a different religious and cultural group #to the majority of Moroccans #but I'm not getting into this with the random customer at work #and even then we are still technically Moroccan so idrk what to say and we've certainly got the culture so yeah #darkeyedghost #oops didn't mean to write a ton on my thoughts on identity in the tags

A-levels were successful!! 🥳

#it was crazy #I felt so sick and shaky and now I'm just very hungry lol #but no I'm so so pleased with how it all went!!#I got three A's!!#ok admittedly I really wanted that A* in history #but I'm still so happy!!#and my university place has been confirmed and everything #so I'm heading north!#oh yeah not to mention that I got an A in greek A-level???#the craziest of my a level subjects by far #ok going to make myself a big breakfast #and then maybe pop into school?#darkeyedghost

I can't believe Nigel Farage has officially become an MP, for fucks sake

#at the very least first past the post limited reform gains to only 4 seats #so it's like they'll probably have very little tangible impact on policy #but it's possible that they'll unfortunately have huge ideological impact #because now they actually have a few elected mps their voice and platform looks somewhat more legitimate #and we've already seen how nigel farage has dragged overton's window to the right when he's outside of parliament #and because the tories lost so massively they're going to have to have a major realigning #and so farage and the reform party are probably going to continue impacting a lot of british politics unfortunately #and it's probable that they'll impact the Tories realignment and we'll see a further lurch to the right from the Tories #uk politics #darkeyedghost

I'm sorry but the funniest thing that's happened in this match was Sergio accidentally running into Goretzka's chest and like falling onto the floor and Goretzka just not even paying attention
