Over the Nexus Deck Profile: Dark Magician
Out of the holy trinity of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dark Magician is the one that struggles the most in the Over the Nexus format. Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon are better, primarily because they are Dragons; Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and Dragon Ravine are among the best type-specific support cards available, and Spellcasters simply do not have that kind of power. Where Dark Magician has a leg up on the other two, though, is SPECIFIC support. Dark Magician has several cards that work for only itself, some good, some bad. The good ones are what this deck is focused on. Dark Magic Attack destroys all of our opponent's spells and traps and Thousand Knives destroys one monster our opponent controls, both of which require Dark Magician to be on the field, while Dark Magic Curtain summons Dark Magician straight from the deck, at the cost of half of our life points and locking us out of summoning for the rest of the turn. In order to make Dark Magic Attack and Thousand Knives online as often as possible, we're turning to not Spellcasters, but Warriors; specifically, Dark Grepher and Elemental Hero Prisma (plus Stratos to search it). Dark Grepher simultaneously makes a Dark Magician in the hand more useful, and makes getting it into the graveyard easier, which is important since one of our primary means of summoning Dark Magician is to revive it. Prisma, meanwhile, is very interesting; not only does it allow us to put Dark Magician in the graveyard like Grepher, its name becomes Dark Magician in the process, meaning we can also use our DM-specific spells! It's also relevant that Prisma is a LIGHT monster, which is important for the deck's other main deck Spellcaster, Chaos Sorcerer. The Synchro lineup is also same as usual, but with two interesting additions: Arcanite Magician, and X-Saber Wayne. Arcanite Magician is a powerful Synchro that requires a non-tuner Spellcaster to be summoned, and can remove Spell Counters from itself to destroy cards on the field, while when X-Saber Wayne is Synchro Summoned, you can special summon one level 4 or lower Warrior from your hand, which is good for this deck as it can help establish board presence faster or get a Prisma going. This deck may not be the strongest, but if you believe in the Heart of the Cards, you may just find the perfect card to guide you to victory. It's time to duel!
