That anon really took me off guard, I've never experienced something like that until now.

I'll ask y'all to please not say things like "I'll kill someone if you don't upload new art" You may have meant it as a joke but it makes me feel uncomfortable without any warning or context. Or I'll have to deactivate anon asks for a good while.

The first character I first fell in love with: Marco. I usually prefer the reasonable half of the wacky-and-reasonable duo, and Marco was no exception. His role as the long-suffering everyman made him a lot more sympathetic than Star the overpowered loose canon who was always causing problems for everyone.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Star. Like I said above, I didn’t like her at first because she was just too wacky and manic. But come season 3 and all of a sudden it’s all aboard the Trauma and Character Development train! It was pretty surprising to see her and Marco’s roles invert, and I thought her story of slowly recognizing her own privilege and the lies she was taught about her own history was a really well-done and topical narrative arc. I also really like that her resolution was voluntarily renouncing her power and privilege for the sake of those her culture had hurt. It’s really rare to see a “white ally” really walk the walk to that extent, and I hope it’s an inspiring lesson to the young kids who watched the show.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I really don’t care about Heckapoo, sorry. Nor the rest of the MHC, but I don’t think any of the others are liked.

The character I love that everyone else hates: I’m not aware of any characters the fandom hates. Send supplemental data and I’ll get back to you.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Marco. Like I said, I felt his and Star’s roles reversed in the second half of the series, and it… did not reflect favorably on him, in my opinion. Suddenly now he’s the obstinate, thoughtless idiot who’s getting everyone into trouble? What happened to the thoughtful, considerate boy who always looked after what Star needed? Doesn’t help that he strangled season 4 by the red string – not entirely his fault, but I still spent a lot of time wishing he just wasn’t there.

Also, he’s boring. Sorry, but someone has to say it.

Oh, if I can fit two in, special mention to Moon, who seemed like such an interesting subversion on the “stern overbearing parent” archetype who was making so much progress with Star right up until she decided to become a Nazi apologist. Moon is cancelled, Eclipsa is Star’s new mom now.

The character I’d want to be like: Star, for having the bravery to make immense personal sacrifices for the good of the many.

The character I’d slap: I would do quite a lot more than slap Moon for thinking a military coup headed by Nazi ghosts was a completely reasonable thing that would lead to no consequences ever.

A pairing that I love: Tomstar. I didn’t care for it at first, but they really went the extra mile in selling it in season 3, to the point I seriously wondered if it was going to be endgame. I was really impressed to get to see a romantic arc where the “bad boy” the girl initially rejected really does change out of a genuine desire to be better both for her and for himself. I think it’s a very good counter to all the lazy and problematic bad boy romances out there to show what “It’ll be different this time, I promise” actually looks like if it’s genuine.

I find Tom a really interesting and somewhat relatable character, and I really liked how his romantic arc with Star demonstrated exactly how a romantic arc should serve the characters – by showing how much better they truly make each other, how they are greater together than they are apart. He starts season 3 callous and dismissive of Star’s political goals, but ends it realizing that it matters to him too.

A pairing that I despise: “Despise” is a strong word, but I don’t like Starco. Sorry, everyone. I can understand why Star likes Boring McOrdinaryboy, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is boring and I don’t want him in my ship. (Also because I resent the cliche that the male and female leads always have to hook up.) Star had so much more chemistry with Tom.
