The Danvers girls have been on their fair share of double dates.
Alexâs organic chem TA and Karaâs crush from the art club at school.
Alexâs med school boyfriend and Karaâs junior year attempt at fitting in.
Sometimes, the double dates would end with Kara crying in Alexâs arms because sheâs broken someone elseâs nose. Again. Because they called her a freak, again. Or, they didnât, but they didnât call back, either.
Always, the double dates would end with Alex nursing a pit in her stomach while she nursed away Karaâs tears, because the guys she dated were into her -- very into her -- but she was never... into them. And she couldnât figure out why.
And then there was Mon-El.Â
Kara couldnât break his nose -- well, not accidentally, anyway -- and she didnât have to hold back when she hugged him -- well, not much, anyway -- and he knew her people, her language, remembered her planet -- well, one version of it, anyway.
He reminded her of where she was from, and maybe that was enough comfort for her to keep staying even though he kept being... well, Maggie had a lot of words for him.
âHeâs so damn full of himself,â sheâd thrown a dish towel down after a few hours of biting her tongue, and Alex looked up from where she was clearing away dishes, her eyebrows raised and her breath held. âYour sisterâs boyfriend.â
âMaggie --Â â
âIâm sorry, you know what, itâs not my place to say --Â â
âNo, no, hey. No oneâs disagreeing with you. Thatâs... thatâs even a generous interpretation of him. I mean, romantically. I guess heâs fine when theyâre just... being all cousinly.â
âCousinly, Danvers?âÂ
âYou know what I mean.â
So the first few double dates where Alex actually felt comfortable with her partner? Still didnât go so great.
Especially that last one.
That last one that ended with her in a tank full of freezing water and her worst nightmare.
They didnât do double dates for a long time after that.
Because Alex was recovering and Maggie was having nightmares every night and Kara was mourning, reeling, berating herself and isolating herself.
And Alex was trying not to let her.
âHey Kar,â she started one Sistersâ Night after... after. Her voice was scratchy from hours of just sitting there, holding a mess of her little sister and blankets together, watching whatever Kara wanted, being as silent as Kara wanted. Just being close. Just... being.
Kara grunted weakly, and Alex turned to kiss the top of her head.
âMaggie and I -- âÂ
Kara immediately sat up, taking all the blankets with her. âThatâs right, Iâm sorry Alex, go. Go be with your fiancee. Iâm okay. Iâm sorry for taking all your time -- â
âHey, Kara, stop. Thatâs not what I meant, thatâs not what I was saying. Get back down here. Please?â
Alex pouted, and Kara sighed, because she got her own pout from somewhere. She laid back down on her big sister, and Alex pulled her even closer.
âMaggie and I ran into Lena at that NCPD luncheon thing earlier today,â Alex started again, and felt Karaâs body stiffen somewhat.
Rao, if Maggie was right about this -- not that Alex disagreed, but Maggie was just the first to notice it, because Alex still wasnât too great at detecting ladies luvin ladies in action -- she would owe her a flash grenade for real, and Jâonn would kill her. Not literally. Heâd probably even be amused. But also stern.
Well. Some things were worth it.
Kara grunted again, this time with some hope in her voice, and Alex grinned and kissed her hair again.
âAnd the three of us got to talking, and Lena said she hadnât been apple picking since she moved to National City. Maggie knows this place a little ways out of the city, and the three of us were thinking we could all go. The four of us. Like um...â Alex stumbled over her words and gulped and pressed on.Â
âLike a double date.â
She felt more than saw Kara blink once. Twice. Three times, before sitting up slowly. âA double date,â she repeated, and Alex gulped.Â
âYeah. Me and Maggie and um... and you and Lena.â
âSo, with you on a date with Maggie. And me on a date with Lena.â
âNo, Kara, I want you to go on a date with my girlfriend and I want to give Lena Luthor the time of her life.â
Kara flinched slightly at that, and Alexâs heart broke.
âKara. You give Lena the time of her life. And if weâre being honest, I think... I think she does the same for you. I know you might not want to think about dating right now after... after everything thatâs happened. But I wonder if... if being open to something that healthy could be... could be good for you.â
Kara nodded slowly, and ran her fingertips thoughtfully over Alexâs knee, tracing patterns of lost words of love, of hope, of persistence, in Kryptonese.
âSo you just asked me out for Lena.â
Alex pursed her lips and tilted her head, a habit sheâd long-since picked up from Maggie.
âYes?âÂ
And then she saw it. For the first time in too, too long.
It was slow to form, but it was pure and it was genuine and it was life-changing.
A smile. A real one. A deep one. The kind that lights up eyes and warms hearts; the kind that tastes like hot apple cider on a crisp fall day and looks like the all the world might suddenly have something resembling peace.
âSo should I tell her yes or should you?â Kara asked, and Alexâs smile grew to match her little sisterâs.
They spent the rest of the night in each otherâs arms, but talking, giggling -- and yes, some crying, and yes, a lot of eating -- and eagerly anticipating the first double date that both of them were sure to enjoy.

Kara was lying with her head hanging off the edge of her twin bed, reading from her English lit textbook when she heard a knock at her door. She sat up quickly, threw her book to the side and slid off the bed.
âLucy, you have got to start remembering yourâŠâ She said as she opened the door. Her words stopped abruptly when she realized that neither of the people standing outside her room was her roommate.
âSurprise!â Alex said, just before Kara threw her arms around her and knocked the wind out of her lungs.
Kara let Alex catch her breath and moved on to hug Maggie. âNot that Iâm not excited to see you, but what brings you guys to Stanford in the middle of the week?â
âMaggie has a conference in the area this weekend and we decided to come up a little early so that we could see you.â
Maggie nodded. âWe also thought it might be nice to take you out to dinner.â
Kara grinned. âOh thank Rao. I donât think I could bring myself to eat even one more package of ramen.â
***
It took less than ten minutes for the trio to walk to a small Chinese restaurant that Alex had discovered during her own freshman year at Stanford.
They had barely gotten their drinks ordered before Kara started to babble about everything that had happened since the last time she had seen her sister. Alex and Maggie listened intently, Maggie with her arm around Alexâs shoulders and Alex leaning into her ever so slightly.
Kara stopped speaking abruptly a few minutes later when the front door of the restaurant opened and a beautiful raven haired girl walked in. Alex and Maggie turned to see what had silenced the girl and after catching sight of the newcomer, shared a knowing glance.
Maggie cleared her throat to reclaim Karaâs attention. âSo, who is she?â She asked casually.
Kara blinked quickly. âOh, uh, thatâs Lena. Sheâs just one of my classmates.â She said as a blush crept up her neck and into her cheeks.
Maggie took a sip from her beer. âUh-huh.â
Kara watched the girl as she took a seat at the bar. âActually, I think youâd really like her Alex. Sheâs a total genius and she spends all of her free time developing technology to try and improve the lives of people in third world countries.â Kara gushed, momentarily forgetting who was sitting across the table from her.
âIt looks like she might be eating alone, you should ask her to join us.â Maggie said with a poorly concealed smirk.
Karaâs gaze flew back to Maggie and her face only grew hotter. âWhat? No. What if she wants to eat alone? I donât want to make her uncomfortable.â
âThatâs understandable.â Alex said before pausing. âBut, if you donât ask her to come over here, I will.â
Kara glared at her sister. âYou wouldnât.â
âIâd bet my Triumph that she would little Danvers. You better get over there.â
Alex made a move to get out of the booth but before she could get far, Kara held up her hand to stop her. âOkay, fine.â
Kara stood up and adjusted her glasses before taking a deep breath and walking toward the bar. She hadnât taken two steps before she heard the unmistakable sound of a high five from behind her. She rolled her eyes and stepped up next to Lena.
âHi.â She said softly.
Lena set down the book she was reading and swiveled in her chair to face Kara. âHello Kara.â She said with a bright smile. âNot many people know about this place, the food is amazing but itâs hard to find. How did you hear about it?â
Kara pointed behind her to where Alex and Maggie were sitting and failing miserably to look as though they werenât spying on them. âMy sister found it when she was studying here.â
Lenaâs eyes moved to where Kara was pointing and she gasped. âYour sister is Alex Danvers? The Alex Danvers?â
Kara crinkled her eyebrows. âYou know her?â
Lena nodded enthusiastically. âIâve never met her, but Iâve heard the stories. She is a legend in the science department.â
A lightbulb went in inside Karaâs head. âYou wouldnât want to come join us for dinner would you?â
Lenaâs eyes opened wide in surprise momentarily before she shook her head. âI couldnât. I donât want to impose.â
âItâs no big deal, I was actually coming over to ask you to join us anyway.â
Lena stood and gently touched Karaâs shoulder. âWell, in that case. Iâd love to.â
Kara looked up and couldnât help but mirror the smile on Lenaâs face. âRight this way then.â
***
âGuys, this is Lena. Lena this is my sister Alex and her girlfriend Maggie.â Both girls waved.
âItâs a pleasure to meet you Lena.â
Lena slid into the booth and smiled. âThe pleasure is all mine. Iâm a huge fan of yours Alex.â
Maggie choked on her beer and Alex blushed. âExcuse me?â The both sputtered.
âSheâs talking about your work here Alex.â Kara said with a laugh.
âSorry about that, it came out differently than I intended.â
Alex shook her head. âDonât worry about it, happens to the best of us.â
Though the conversation started out rocky, it soon began to flow as Lena told Alex and Maggie that her and Kara had been studying together regularly for over a year, which prompted Maggie to nudge poke Alex under the table which in turn earned her a soft slap on the hand from Alex. After that, Lena and Alex spent around half an hour discussing one of the papers that Alex had written about alien genetics.
Maggie checked her watch. âBabe, you know I love it when you get all nerdy, but we should probably get back to our hotel. Weâve got an early morning tomorrow.â
Alex nodded. âYeah, youâre probably right.â
Kara and Lena got the hint and made their way out of their seat as Maggie and Alex did the same.
Alex turned to Kara and pulled her into a hug. âIâm sorry that we couldnât stay longer but we should be back in about a month for your birthday.â
âIâm just glad that I got to see you.â Kara said with a smile.
Alex moved on to Lena and held out her hand. âIt was very nice to meet you Lena, hopefully we will see you again.â
âIâm sure we will.â Maggie mumbled just loud enough for Alex to hear.
Lena took Alexâs hand and gave it a firm shake. âIf thatâs the case, perhaps you can tell me more about the famous biochem protest.â
Alex rolled her eyes. âOh god. They still talk about that?â
Lena laughed. âMuch to the professorsâ dismay.â
While Lena and Alex were having their exchange, Maggie pulled Kara to the side. âHave you asked her out yet?â
Kara adjusted her glasses and cleared her throat. âI-uh⊠no. No I havenât. Is it that obvious?â
âMaybe not to her, but as a detectiveâŠâ
âYou detect, I know. Itâs one of Alexâs favorite things about you.â
Maggie beamed. âThatâs besides the point.â Her face turned serious.âWhatâs stopping you?â
âHave you seen her?â
âYes and Iâve also seen how she looks at you. Iâm not saying that you have to ask her out, that is not my place, but I will say that it will always be worse not knowing if it will work out. No pressure, just think about it.â Maggie said before hugging Kara and walking back over to the other two.
âYou ready babe?â
Alex nodded. âIâll text you when we get to the hotel Kara. Have a good night guys.â
Maggie opened the door for Alex and winked at Kara before following her girlfriend out into the night.
Lena looked over at Kara. âThank you for inviting me to sit with you guys tonight. Itâs the most fun that I have had in awhile.â
âIâm glad that you wanted to come over.â They held each otherâs gaze for a moment without saying a word. Kara took a deep breath and before she could think better of it, she spoke up. âItâs still kind of early, do you feel like getting some dessert?â
Lenaâs eyes sparkled. âI would love to.â
Kara grinned, and still riding on her wave of confidence stuck her elbow out towards Lena. Without skipping a beat, Lena hooked her arm through Karaâs and the girls made their way out of the restaurant.
***
Later that night, Maggie received a text from Kara that simply said âShe said yes.â
âHey babe, you owe me that flash grenade. Kara asked Lena out.â
âDammit, I thought for sure it would take her another six months.â
The teams of agents were leaving the building, and Lena could finally take a moment to breathe.
They had asked her a lot of questions, and she had answered to the best of her ability.
Yes, someone had tried to kill her. No, she wasnât injured. No, she didnât know who had ordered it. Yes, she knew a lot of people who had the motive and the means to do it. No, she hadnât jumped. The largest guy had pushed her off the balcony when she disarmed him. Yes, Supergirl had made it on time and brought her back to her office before dealing with the thugs. No, she was absolutely sure she did not need to go to the hospital.
Just as the annoying agent who had been questioning her finally turned around to leave, they both heard two gunshots go off on one of the floors below, shortly followed by the sound of breaking glass, and the familiar swoosh of Supergirlâs flying. The agent still with her tensed up, but a moment later they both saw Supergirl come up to the balcony holding Agent Danvers by the back of her tactical vest. The agent was grinning like a cat that had just caught a particularly fat bird, and Supergirl looked very, very annoyed.
âYou!â she pointed at the agent in her office, who suddenly looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Go down three floors and help the others arrest the two jerks that just showed up. Iâll be there in a second to fly them back to the DEO.â
The guy left almost at a sprint. Supergirl dropped Agent Danvers none too gently on the balcony and then, surprisingly, turned to Lena with an incredibly frustrated look in her eye.
âYou, go sit on your desk. And youâ she turned to Agent Danvers, somehow looking even more frustrated, âgo sit next to her. Both of you wait here, Iâll be right backâ
With that, the girl of steel took off, and Lena turned what was probably an extremely bewildered look on Agent Danvers. She was even more confused to see the agent didnât look surprised or worried at all. No, Agent Danvers was still looking completely smug.
âShall we then?â
With that, she walked in and took a seat at Lenaâs desk. The way she was walking, Lena wouldnât have been surprised to see her lean back and put her feet up on the desk. Before Lena could ask anything, she heard the telltale sound of Supergirl landing back on her balcony. She let herself in and raised an eyebrow at Lena, who realized she was still standing and still had no idea what was going on. When she saw that Agent Danvers also staring at her, she decided to just go with it, whatever âitâ was, and finally went back to her chair.
âBoth of you have to stop before you give me a heart attack. I cannot be everywhere all the time, so stop jumping off buildingsâ
Supergirl had crossed her arms and was glaring at both of them in turns. Danvers exchanged a look with Lena, who was now more surprised than confused, and then turned back at Supergirl with a chuckle.
âTechnically, Luthor here didnât jump. Those boneheads pushed her.â
âSame difference! Stop jumping, falling, or getting thrown off of buildings, planes or helicopters. And Alex, you DID just jump!â
âYeah, but I caught the bad guys didnât I? Plus, I knew you were right thereâ
âThatâs the point! What if I hadnât been?â
Having decided it was time she stepped in, Lena interrupted whatever it was that Agent Danvers had been about to say.
âBut you were, Supergirl. Both times apparently.âÂ
Both women turned to look at her, seeming to remember just now that there was someone else in the room, but Lena only had eyes for Supergirl,
âYou have been there every time I have fallen. When I have been pushed, and when my helicopter went down, and even when I was supposed to have been on the Venture, you would have caught me.â
Supergirl was suddenly looking a bit sheepish, and a bit more calm, so Lena kept talking.
âI am very sorry to have worried you. I will be more careful in the future.â
Supergirl opened her mouth to answer, but before she could, they both heard a scoff coming from the window.
âOh relax Luthor. Supergirl is just overreacting a little bitâ
Somehow, the moment theyâd had their attention focused on each other, Agent Danvers had managed to sneak past both of them, and was now standing at the very edge of the balcony. Again.
âAlex no!â
Throwing a cocky wink at Lena, Danvers took a step back and off of the building. Muttering what was probably an alien curse, Supergirl jumped right after her.
Lena leaned back on her chair, chuckled to herself, and muttered,
There are few well-known truths one can depend on in this world. Taxes, death, pain, heartbreak, and love are just a few. The consequences one faces for messing with the Danvers sisterâs is another. Theyâve always been fiercely protective of each other, Alex Danvers especially. Â No one ever got away clean with messing with her sister Kara Danvers. Alex Danvers was more physically protective of Kara. Â Kara Danvers was just as protective of Alex, she just preferred less physical tactics. Kara would make sure the whole school would shame you for what you did to Alex, very simply using her favorite weapon-words.
Life was, by no means, easy for the Danvers sisters. Â At the age of 5, Kara lost her parents, her friends, her entire planet. She came to live with the Danversâ by sheer luck. When they took her in, she became infatuated with Alex, as many younger siblings do. Alex tolerated Karaâs presence in the beginning but soon grew attached to the easily startled, big hearted, wide eyed girl her parents brought into her home without her permission. As soon as that happened separating the two was impossible.
And they got into the craziest shenanigans.
In the middle of the night, about a year after Kara was adopted, the then 6 and 8-year-olds went to work with their parents. While there, they disappeared into an unused lab and started messing with the equipment. This was the day a 6 and 8-year-old accidentally figured out how liquid nitrogen worked. When Eliza and Jeremiah found them, Kara was down to one shoe and Alex had none. They were both lucky they didnât have any physical damage. But when your sister is an alien who gets powers from the sun, whatâs a little liquid nitrogen. The Danvers sisters were never left alone in their parentsâ lab again.
In school, there was always that one person that tried to get away with picking on one of the Danvers sisters. It happened every year and every year the bully suffered grave consequences. When Kara was in 6th grade and Alex was in 8th, a new kid decided that Kara was too weird. So, he harassed her to the point of tears. Â The next week, his main course for lunch consisted of a worm sandwich. No one messed with Alexâs little sister, and she made sure the new kid knew that.
Alex Danvers was no stranger to being an outcast. Thatâs what happened when word got out that you took whatever measures necessary to protect you sister against bullies. The students tended to steer clear lest they provoke the wrath of 1000 suns wrapped up in a relatively short, yet feisty human female. What she wasnât exactly used to was being made fun of. She learned this one Monday after a long weekend in 11th grade. She normally kept to herself and didnât pay much attention to her peers. But itâs hard not to notice when everyone is whispering and pointing at you like youâre an animal on display at the Zoo. Sheâs standing at her locker when she hears what theyâre saying for the first time.
âSheâs a lesbian. Thatâs so gross. She shouldnât even be allowed to go here,â Alex hears. She wonders for a minute who theyâre talking about. Her question is answered when Kara comes up to her and asks if she knew what the school was saying about her. She didnât care, her biggest concern is how the truth got out. Kara was worried about Alex. The question was answered when Vicki Donahue walked up to her and tried to throw her arm around Alexâs shoulders asking her if she wanted to make out like Alex suggested the other night. Alex moves to punch Vicki but she doesnât get the chance. Before she can even raise her arm, the bitch is laid out cold on the floor. Kara was standing above her fists still clenched, lucky sheâd practiced pulling her hits so much otherwise she might have been charged with manslaughter. After that, everyone in Midvale High School steered clear of both Kara and Alex Danvers.
The trend continued until Alex left for college. The kids in school didnât exactly mess with Kara but they werenât nice to her either. When Kara made it to university with Alex, it seemed that all was right in the universe again. The sisters got into things they shouldnât, only this time, they had training on the equipment in the science labs. Â
As the first few months of Karaâs freshman year of college passed by, Alex noticed that their group had grown by two. Â Kara made friends with two guys, Winn Schott and James Olsen, in one of her classes. One night the three of them went out to dinner and ran into Alex. Kara called out to her and motioned for her to join them. So, she did, albeit a little skeptically. As the conversation continued, however, she could see why Kara liked them so much. Â They all had something in common. They were misfits. Winn was awkward and unsure of himself in social settings. James was more confident but he seemed reserved and quiet until he got to know the people around him.
By December of that year, the circle of people Alex would give her life to protect grew from one person to three. This was proven the night that she found Winn on the verge of a panic attack. He and James had gone to a party, Kara and Alex were going to head over once Alex finished her last final, celebrating the universities latest win in basketball and the end of finals. Â While there, Winn ran into a guy, Jason, heâd been talking to from class. They disappeared, like two people who are infatuated with each other do, to fool around in a random room. The person whose room it was walked in in the midst of clothes being thrown and started to leave apologizing for interrupting. At least he was until he saw that it was two guys instead of a guy and a girl. He rushed forward grabbed Winn by his shoulders and threw him backward to the ground. Â He landed on his wrist and heard a crack. Winn was unaware that Jason he was on the football team, he didnât follow sports. He was also unaware that this was one of his teammate's rooms.
The guy, whom Winn learned later was named Maxwell Lord, that threw him to the ground started beating up Jason. Partygoers rushed to see what the commotion was. James forced his way to the front of the crowd and saw Winn on the ground. James moved to try and pry Lord off of Jason but a couple of behemoth football players stopped him. Â The more he struggled, the harder they held him back eventually turning to hit James until he went limp in their arms.
Alex and Kara walked into the house arm in arm, smiles on their faces. The smiles retreated, however, when they were faced with a group of people blocking the stairs. Alex stopped someone walking toward them asking what was happening. The response worried her, âThereâs a fight upstairs a couple of guys were shagging up together.â Kara was one step ahead of Alex, using her super strength to clear a path up the steps. Kara and Alex stepped in the room and froze. James was laid out on the floor and Winn was clutching his wrist gasping for breath. Lord was still throwing hit after hit into Jason. Alex ran up, Spun Lord around, ducked under his fist and landed a hard kick to his groin. Lord fell to the ground groaning in pain. Â His two goons dropped Jason in a heap on the floor, running toward Alex. Alex dropped to the floor swinging her leg out spinning of a circle, tripping both of them. Â One started to get up and she kneed him in the face. The other moved to a standing position behind Alexâs back. He didnât have a chance to do anything because Kara had him in a headlock before he took a step.
Alex helped Winn stand, gently draping his button up and coat around his shoulders. Kara picked James up and carried him out of the house to the car. They took the boys to the hospital to make sure they were ok. The next day all four of them made their way to Midvale to spend the holidays with their newly fortified family. Â
When they returned to campus following holiday break, the video of the Danvers sisters kicking ass had made the rounds through campus. The point had been made. Donât mess with the Danvers sisters and donât mess with anyone in their circle, or you will regret it.
When scheduling their classes for the spring semester, the four friends worked it out so they could all eat lunch together four days a week. During one of these lunches, three women approached their table. The laughing group stopped immediately and stared at the intruders.
Alex recognized one of the women from several of her upper division science classes. âHey, Youâre in my molecular physiology class with Dr. Pierce right.â She asked the tallest of the three.
âYeah, that class is really interesting but could potentially make me pull every hair out of my head at the same time. Â Iâm Lena Luther by the way.â
âAlex Danvers and I know what you mean but Pierce does an excellent job explaining the information.â
âYes, he does.â The woman in the middle, shorter than Lena but just taller than the woman on the left, clears her throat. âOh, right. Um, this is Maggie Sawyer,â she points to the woman who cleared her throat, âand this is Lucy Lane.â
âWe saw the video of you too beating up Lord and is asshole goons and we just wanted to say thank you,â Maggie spoke up.
âYeah, heâs one of the biggest pains in our asses. He talks to us derogatorily every time he sees us just because he disagrees with our lifestyle choices.â Lucy continues for Maggie dropping her voice to mimic (mock) a male jock voice.
âYour lifestyle choices?â Kara inquires.
âYeah, Maggie here is like the biggest lesbian ever to lesbian, Luther is Bi, and I very happily and proudly identify as pan sexual.â Lucy finishes eyeing James. Â
âCool it, Lane,â Maggie warns. âAnyway, we all met last year in the LGBTQ+ club on campus and we wanted to reach out to Winn,â she turns away from staring at Alex and looks at who she assumes is Winn asking with her eyes if sheâs right. He nods his head and she continues. âWe wanted to make sure he was ok and that he knew about the resources available to those in the community on campus.â Maggie finishes.
âWe are open to all who would like to join though, allies included. Just so you all know.â Lucy adds still not removing her eyes from James.
âThat wonât be a problem.â
âOh yeah, whyâs that Danvers?â
Alex scans the table making sure itâs ok that she speaks for everyone. Getting affirmative nods from her family she answers, âWinn and I are both gay, Kara here is pan as well, and James is Bi.â When sheâs done talking she meets Maggieâs eyes smiling shyly.
âWell in that case all of you should come to our meeting tonight at 7 in the basement of the Union. We have stale donuts and water. Some of us go out after too, but you have to be of age to drink.â She invites momentarily dropping her smirk to meet the eyes of Winn, Kara, and James.
âWeâll think about it.â
âAlright, weâll get out of your hair but we hope to see you tonight.â
The four nod and say bye as Maggie, Lena, and Lucy walk away. Â They end up going to the meeting that night and every week after that. By the time finals roll around this time Alex and Karaâs circle of close friends grows by three. The number of people they would give up everything for grows by three. Maggie and Alex are dating. Kara and Lena are dating. James and Lucy are dating. And Winn, well Winn met a very nice guy in the club named Clark, who just happened to be Karaâs long-lost cousin she thought had died when Krypton exploded.
To the outside world, Kara and Alex Danvers were two very badass women-badass sisters- but their friends know the truth. Yes, they can be badassâ when they need to be but, in reality, they are just incredibly protective of those they care about. When they let people in, those people see that they are truly teddy bears. Those people are also the luckiest people in the entire world. Â
I know everyone is busy with DanversSistersWeek but I had this weird dream the other night and would love to see it come to life even as a short one shot, I suck at words and I don't write in english but love to read.If you are not interested in the prompt maybe you know someone who also writes supergirl? Anyway the prompt is simply they find an alien that can de age people and Alex was made small (5-6) So Kara has to be the big sis. Alex is a trouble maker wrecking havoc on DEO like funny.
I actually wasnât sure what to do for Day 4 of DanversSistersWeek so this prompt actually helped. Hope this lives up to expectations.Â
âHey, Eliza!âÂ
Karaâs voice over the phone is enthusiastic but a little breathless and Eliza immediately recognizes it as her âif you knew whatâs going on Iâd be in trouble, but you donât know so Iâm going to (badly) pretend everything is fineâ voice.Â
âHello, Kara,â she says, wryly, wondering what her youngest daughter got herself into this time. âHow are you?â
âGood! Iâm good! And you?â
âOh, Iâm fine, Kara. Do you need something?â
âNo,â Kara says quickly. âJust a question.â
âKara, Iâm at a conference, so can we make this quick?â
âYeah, yeah, of course. What was Alex like when she was, ummm, 5? Maybe 6?â
That was certainly not the question Eliza was expecting. Sheâs not quite sure what to make of it.
âIs this urgent, because I have to present in ten minutes.â
âYes! Itâs very, very important,â Kara replies. âPleaseâŠâ
Eliza shakes her head, wondering what the hell her daughters have gotten into this time. But she figures that if Kara needs her to answer now, it must be quite pressing.Â
âShe was curious,â Eliza says, thinking back to when her oldest daughter barely made it up to her knee. âI mean, sheâs always been curious, but when she was little everything was new so she was curious about everything. We had to keep at least three eyes on her at all times or she would go off to lord-knows-where on one of her adventures. She didnât like to be told things. I remember, one time we told her that a pot we had just taken off the stove was hot and she shouldnât touch it. Of course, Alex didnât believe us and she put her hand directly on it. She had second degree burns all over her hand but she didnât even cry, just stared at them curiously. She learned from that, of course, and didnât touch a hot pot again, but gosh, she nearly gave us a heart attack.â
âRight. Okay,â Kara says. âSo how did you keep her under control?â
âControlling Alex?â Eliza scoffed. âShe may have been small but she was just as headstrong as she is now. The only way to control her was to pick her up and hold her, not matter how hard she fought back. Eventually, sheâd get tired.â
âOkay! Thank you, Eliza! Iâll let you get back to your conference now.â
Karaâs words were punctuated by a loud crash in the background, the shouted words âAlex, no!â and then the line went dead. Eliza stared at her phone wondering if she should be worried.Â
âGet off that! How did you even get up there?â Kara says, grabbing Alex around her middle and hoisting her up in her arms and off of the lab table.Â
Just like Eliza predicted, Alex starts shrieking almost immediately.Â
âNo! NO! Put me down! Put me down!â
She slams her tiny fists into Karaâs chest and Kara barely feels it but Alexâs tantrum is drawing the eyes of passing agents and Kara quickly puts her back down on the ground. She immediately scurries away into the hall. Kara chases after her as quickly as she can. Sheâs about to grab her again and pick her up, before she remembers what happened the previous time. So she settles for just following her around, ready to stop her if she does something dangerous.Â
On the bright side, all of the agents have been briefed about Agent Danversâs⊠situation. They smile at her kindly as she passes and when she marches up to them, a determined look on her face, they answer her questions happily.Â
âHave you ever killed someone?â
âUm, no, I havenât,â Agent Demos says. âIâm a technician so I donât go out into the field much.â
âWhatâs a teck-ni-shan?â Alex asks, the foreign syllables sitting heavily on her tongue.Â
âIt means, I work with computers and technology. Right now Iâm assigned to the control deck with Agent Schott.â
Alex ponders this statement heavily, regarding Agent Demos thoughtfully.Â
âShow me!â she commands.Â
Agent Demosâs shoulder shake with the effort not to laugh. That command from Alex at age 30 would have had him shaking in his boots. But sheâs small, wearing only a DEO t-shirt (the smallest they could find, but it still hangs on her like a dress), and her normally pointed eyes are too wide, and too big to be intimidating. That said, Demos straightens his spine and fighting a smile, says, âYes, maâam.â
Kara smiles at him gratefully and follows them to the control center. Demos sits down at his station and hesitates for a second, before lifting Alex up and putting her in his lap so that she can see the screen.Â
âWhatâs that do?â she asks, pressing a button before Demos can answer.Â
An alarm goes off and Kara winces.Â
âNo! Donât touch that. Thatâs a special button that we donât touch unless itâs an emergency,â Demos says, clicking a few buttons until the alarm shuts off.Â
Already, Kara can hear agents on all levels half-way to high alert and their confusion at how abruptly the alarm was shut off.Â
âStand down, Agents,â Jâonnâs voice echoes over the intercom. âFalse alarm. I repeat, a false alarm.â
Everyone quiets down and Jâonn shoots Demos a look that has him shrinking in his chair.Â
âPlease tell me donât that your six years of training were such a colossal waste that you are unable to baby-sit a five-year-old for two minutes,â he says.Â
âNo, sir,â Agent Demos replies and he turns back just in time to catch Alexâs wrist before she presses another potentially dangerous button.Â
âHow close are we to fixing this?â Kara asks, pulling Jâonn to the side.Â
He glances over at Winn, who is muttering and gnawing on a pen and staring at the readings the lab sent him.Â
âThereâs still work to do,â he says, with an aggrieved sigh. âBut Winn has at least determined that it can be undone.â
âWhat did they even hit her with?â
âA localized time ray. It turns back the time on whatever it hits. Usually itâs used on buildings or bank vaults to move time forward and have them crumble. We still donât know what that alien planned to do with it. Alex just got caught in the crossfire. Winn is trying to figure out how to reverse the settings.â
Kara nods.Â
âWell, I hope he does it soon,â she says.Â
Kara turns around to see Alex reaching for Agent Demosâs gun. He has clearly all but forgotten about her, his focus on something on his computer screen and not on the toddler reaching into his holster.Â
Kara speeds across the room and scoops Alex up.Â
âNo, Alex!â she says, as firmly as she can. âNo guns.â
Alexâs eyes get very wide, her lower lip juts out, and she takes a deep breath and Kara flinches away before she even starts screaming. Itâs amazing to her that such a tiny body can produce such a loud sound.Â
âLet go! Let go!âÂ
Kara sighs and stares up at the ceiling, wondering when exactly this became her life. She isnât sure how to make her be quiet other than to put her down but she knows that the DEO control center isnât exactly child-friendly. A particularly shrill shout from Alex makes up her mind for her and Kara takes off, flying into the DEO training room.Â
Itâs completely bare and Kara knows that there wonât be much to entertain Alex in there, but itâs also the only room in the DEO that doesnât have guns, or scalpels, or buttons that will blow something up. She puts Alex down and she stops screaming.Â
She toddles around the room, touching each wall, staring at the floor as if it holds the secrets to the universe. She gets to the door and tries to push against the heavy metal. Itâs locked but Karaâs pretty sure itâs heavy enough Alex wouldnât be able to open it anyway.Â
âOpen!â she shouts at Kara.Â
âSorry, Alex. Itâs best that you stay in here, at least until Winn figures out how to cure you.â
âOPEN!â she says again.Â
Kara shakes her head. She worries for a second that Alex will start screaming again, but instead she just frowns unhappily before dashing across the room and trying to climb up the window ledges to look out the window. She tries for longer that Kara thought she would, curling her tiny fingers over the ledge and trying to scramble up with her bare feet, before she eventually gives up and looks at Kara.Â
âI wanna see,â she says.Â
âWhatâs the magic word?â Kara asks, feeling a strange sort of satisfaction at being able to hold that over her sisterâs head.Â
Alex pouts, clenching her jaw. For a second theyâre at a stalemate. Alex glaring and Kara standing her ground. Eventually, Alex sighs deeply.
âI wanna see, please,â she says.Â
Kara walks over and scoops her up so that she can sit on the ledge. The DEO offers a view of the whole city and Kara watches as Alexâs eyes go wide.Â
âWow,â she says.Â
âItâs pretty, isnât it?â Kara says and her heart clenches with affection as Alex nods slowly.Â
âWhat is that?â she asks, pointing at the tallest building in her sight.Â
âThatâs the CatCo building. Theyâre a news company. I work for them,â she says.Â
âNo, there,â Alex says, pointing to the left a little.Â
âOh, thatâs the ocean.â
âItâs pretty,â Alex says softly, leaning back into Karaâs chest.Â
âHmmm, yeah. Itâs where all the fishes live. And sharks and dolphins and whales.â
âOctopus?â
âYeah, there are octopus, too.â
Alex nods, satisfied. She yawns and her head drops to Karaâs shoulder.Â
âIâm sleepy,â she says.Â
âHmmm, it was probably all the screaming,â Kara replies.Â
She doesnât expect the reproachful look Alex gives her. Itâs exactly the same as the one adult Alex shoots Kara when sheâs being sarcastic. Kara fights the urge to laugh and instead picks her up off the ledge and holds her securely against her chest.Â
Itâs not long before Alexâs breathing evens out.Â
Kara holds her gingerly. Itâs not the first time sheâs wondered what it would have been like had she lived through this part of Alexâs life. What if she had landed earlier and grown up with Alex? What if the awkward weâre-strangers-living-in-a-different house hadnât happened because Alex was too young to know the difference? What if, instead of being the dorky little sister, Kara would have been the older sister? Not the cool older sister, because Kara isnât cool, but an older sister that Alex looked up to as an example of how to act and how to live.Â
Kara doesnât think sheâd trade the memories she has or the life she lived for the world. Having Alex as her older sister had been her saving grace since the moment she landed on Earth. She wouldnât be Supergirl, might not even be alive, if Alex hadnât been there supporting her and saving her every step of the way. That doesnât mean that she would turn up a chance to see how things might have been.Â
The door behind her opens quietly, distracting her from her thoughts.Â
âWinn figured it out he thinks,â Jâonn says. âWe can bring her back.â
Kara tilts her head so that she can look at Alexâs face where its buried against her shoulder. Itâs all scrunched up and sheâs drooling just a little and she looks so small and cute that Kara thinks her heart might burst. Jâonn walks over and softly brushes a strand of hair out of her face.Â
âDid you hear me Kara?â he asks, when he doesnât get a response.Â
âYeah, I just⊠Can we just wait until she wakes up?â

âCome help us deal with your stupid sister.â
Alexâs girlfriend hangs up on you before you can even say âhiâ and you sigh.
âSorry, Lee,â you say to your companion of the night. âIâm needed elsewhere.â
Lena nods and she signals for the check to arrive. âSuper problems?â She asks low, too low to be heard by other than you.
You groan. âMore like sister problems.â
The way your almost girlfriend's eyes widen at that warms your heart. âIs she alright? Was she hurt?â
You smile. âNo. I donât think so at least⊠they were going to try a new prototype tonight and I think Alex is poking her nose around⊠that was Luce. She is pissed.â
Lenaâs brows furrow. â⊠Wait a moment⊠Alex is trying a new prototype and she didnât tell me?!â
The indignation in her voice is cute, but it would be cuter if Lena and Alex werenât such a volatile duo with explicit orders to never be on their own within the DEO. The order was given by both Directors, Lane and Jâonzz, and you think wiser order hadnât ever been given.
Lena and Alex, together, alone⊠not a good combo, no sir.
âMore like Vasquez and Lucy are trying a new prototype and Alex got word about it at last minute.â
The vibrant excitement in your date sits ill with you. âOh! What are they testing?â
âI donât know.â And if I knew, I wouldnât tell you, you think. You really donât need Lena getting the idea she can come al-
âIâm coming with you,â Lena declares as she passes her card to the waiter.
âNo.â
The raised eyebrow sent your way looks eerily like Alexâs. âIâm not asking you. Iâm informing you.â
You stand up then. âIâm leaving now. Iâm not taking you.â You turn and head to the door, not looking back.
You can almost hear the shrug on her voice, still low but so easily heard by you. âBy all means, go. Iâll drive there on my own and you wonât be invited to the gala. Neither of your alter egos will be.â
That stops you short, just a foot from exiting the restaurant. L-Corp is housing a gala to raise donations towards several orphanages and this year promises to be amazing. Not only did Lena invite several of the major players in the philanthropy scene, she also invited all the kids the donations are going to help. The event is planned not so much like a gala, but a fair for kids and adults alike and the goal is to bring the money in while having fun.
Kara Danvers needs to be there to report on it, Snapper made sure to tell you that just today and Supergirl was promised her weight in potstickers and wants to play with all the children.
âThis is so not fair,â you inform Lena as she comes stand next to you once the bill is settled.
âAll is fair in love and science.â
âDonât you mean all is fair in love and war?â
You have reached an alley and you super-speed into your uniform. Lena comes close to you and lets herself be picked up bridal style.
âOh, no⊠Didnât you hear I only make love and never war?â The purring words in your ear makes your face boil in embarrassment and not a little desire.
Rao, with any luck you will stop resembling a tomato by the time you arrive at the Desert Base.

âAlex!â
Hearing your sisterâs name being yelled with such anger and exasperation shouldnât be such a surprise. Lucy called you beyond mad, after all.
You and Lena enter the hangar and you can see Lucy in the middle of the open space, staring upwards and with her hands on her hips. Sheâs so tiny and yet she can fill up the space with that commanding air that makes you want to obey no matter what and you wonder how is it that Alex can date her.
Sure, your sister has so much fun most of the time pushing her buttons, but youâd get scared with a partner like Lucy. Once you raised your concerns to Lena about how Alex loves making Lucy angry and your friend got so flustered and you were left so confused.
Lucy gets really upset and Alex loves it⊠but well, the bruises you have seen on Alexâs wrists and back bothers you and itâs just because both Alex and Lena have told you on numerous occasions that they mean nothing bad that you havenât acted against Lucy.
Also, you like Lucy. And you like that Lucy has mellowed Alexâs most reckless tendencies. She no longer charges on into battle without regard for her own safety, she no longer drinks herself to the point her liver and kidneys are gross (yes, you have checked with your x-ray vision) and she is no longer sad all the time.
Lucy is good for your sister⊠even if you donât understand how Lucy interacts with her.
âIâm almost there! I need ten more minutes!â You canât see where Alex is, yet, but she sounds like sheâs having a little too much fun.
âIf you do donât come down right now, you will be tied up for the whole weekend!â
You frown at that and when you turn to Lena to help you understand, you canât find her.
You sigh. Of course, she is gone who knows where now that you are here.
âHey, Luce!â you call to your friend. âWhatâs the emergency?â
Lucy turns and the scowl on her face lessens a little. âYour dumbass sister,â she informs you plainly. She points up and you follow her finger.
The hangarâs ceiling is high, really high. This is the hangar you use to train flying maneuvers and the one where Jâonn and you have aerial fights. Itâs also the one where agents learn to use the diverse flying machines the DEO have at its disposal, such as small rockets, gliders, and small aircraft. You donât know how they managed to build such a high and resistant thing, but you at least now know why Lucy is so pissed.
Alex is sitting in the catwalk that runs across the hangar with her legs dangling down, a catwalk so high that it almost touches the ceiling and you know from experience that you need to walk hunched to not hit your head. She is in what you think is her issued underwear, a tank top and boy briefs, her legs are kicking the air happily and she is⊠tinkering with something that has⊠wings?
âSheâs been up there for two hours now. She refuses to come down.â
You are still looking up. And⊠damn it, even with your eyesight you canât really say what your sister is really doing. She has a toolkit besides her and she has a smudge of oil on her cheek and a smile so big on her face that you donât want to know but you have to ask.
âWhat is she doing?â
âOur prototype had some serious issues⊠sheâs fixing it, she says, but she wonât come down to let the rest of us see what the hell sheâs doing.â
Oh. Understanding downs to you. âShe wants to be the one testing it.â
â⊠yes.â
You look then at Lucy, frowning. âAnd why arenât you up there with her?â You donât think it would be a problem to drag her down.
âShe locked herself up there,â Vasquez comes behind you. They are holding a tablet and the frown on their face concerns you a little. âShe also bit Agent Kelly before doing so.â
You blink at Vasquez. âShe bit Michael? She likes Michael!â
Vasquez shrugs. âShe likes the prototype better?â
âAnd Jâonn? Havenât you call Jâonn?â
Lucy massages her temples and Vasquez shakes their head. âHeâs our last resort.â
Oh. âHe threatened you.â Itâs not a question but it would be nice to have it confirmed.
Lucy nods.
âHe said if she lets her do something  this stupid again, he will suspend her for a week,â Vasquez informs you.
You frown. âBut⊠itâs not your fault Alex is⊠well, Alex.â
âSpace Dad swears she started acting up when I joined the DEO,â Lucy mutters. âThatâs bullshit, though.â
âWellâŠâ you drawl. âHeâs not wrong. She was the perfect agent before she started dating you.â
Lucyâs glare on you, makes you flinch and you fly to Alex in part to escape Lucy and in part to bring Alex down.
âHey, sis!â Alex chirps the moment you are floating by her side.
âAlexâŠâ you wave her, grabbing a wrench that threatens to fall off the catwalk and kill someone below. âSo⊠how about we if go down for a little bit?â
âNope,â she says happily. âIâm almost done.â
âAlex⊠Lucy is gonna be suspended if you donât come down.â
That makes her pause and look up from whatever she is oiling. âWhat?â
âJâonn said she would be suspended if you pull a crazy stunt again.â
She blinks once, twice, before looking down to what you think looks like a mechanical skull. âWerenât you on a date with Lena?â she asks you.
The topic change makes your head swirl. âUh?â
âWerenât you with Lee?â
â⊠Yes?â
She looks up again and turns her head left and then right. Her face brightens and you donât need to look to know what has her so happy. âLee!â
âAl!â Lenaâs cheerful voice ricochets around your brain, making you wince. You love Lena, you love Alex, but the level of silliness and stupidity they reach when together makes you have honest to Rao migraines.
Lena comes to sit next to your sister and you see she has changed clothes. She is no longer wearing her red power-suit, but one of⊠yes, you can see the tag on her chest, one of Alexâs day-to-day uniforms. âWhat do I do?â She asks, eagerly.
Alex points to the backpack-like chunk of metal to the side. âI canât make it ignite without it bursting into flames.â
âAlex!â You scold her because she knows, she knows, she canât play with fire.
Your sister rolls her eyes. âLena is here,â she tells you dismissively. âSheâll fix it.â Â
Lena nods once, sharply. âNo problem.â
You groan. âCâmon, Alex! Lena! You need to come down, you canât try this if it can explode!â
âRelax, we know what we are doing,â Alex says, twisting something in her hands and crying happily in success. âYes! This will fly now!â
You shake your head. âGuys, please.â
âDonât you have a tiny Director to calm down?â Lena asks you and you groan again.
You can try getting physical with them. You can try grabbing them and forcing them down⊠but these two are so in sync and they think so alike they will escape you one way or another.
They have done it before.
If you go for Alex, Lena in all her graceful glory will jump down, forcing you to catch her and letting Alex escape with their toy. If you go for Lena, Alex will still have the time to escape with their toy.
If you try going for both they will make it so that none of you three make it down unharmed and⊠Alex will still escape with their toy.
The only way you can really win this is talking about their sense of responsibility and adulting⊠not that either act like adults when they are together.
â⊠What will it cost me to have you both down and complaint?â
Lena and Alex look from their respective tasks and look at each other. Lena raises an eyebrow and Alexâs lip twitches. Lena dips her head to you and Alexâs shakes a little. Lenaâs eyes widen and Alexâs brow furrow. Alexâs nose wrinkles and Lena smirks.
As one, they turn to you.
âWe are not going down,â they announce solemnly.
âOh! Come on!â
âBye, Kara.â With that, Alex pushes the tool kit out the catwalk and to your horror, it splits open as it starts going down.
âYou, asshole!â You yell at her as you use your speed to catch every single tool and nail and screw and tidbit before they reach the ground and really kill someone.
The worst thing is, no matter how fast you do it, by the time you go back to them they would be finished with their tasks and they would still not come down.
âNice catch, Supergirl,â Vasquez says with a smirk.
âI hate them both.â
Lucy sighs. âThat makes three of us.â
Vasquez laughs. âI donât hate them. I find them hilarious.â
Lucyâs murderous eyes are turned to her second-in-command before focusing on the crazy duo above. âGet ready to phone Jâonn.â
You gasp. âYou will be suspended!â
âI donât care. Iâll make sure he suspends Alex too and Iâll make her pay for this.â
Your stomach clenches in worry at her words. âYou wonât hurt her, will you?â
You are no stranger to Lucyâs moods and you have seen her hit the punching bag heavily when she is too angry. You have seen her lay it on the shooting range when she is frustrated and you have seen her scream and yell until she is blue in the face when things donât go her wayâŠ
⊠And you have seen her manhandle Alex in several occasions, not that they know you have seen them.
You havenât acted nor will you act because Alex, Lena, and even Jâonn have told you Alex is in no danger repeatedly and emphatically.
You still worry, though.
And apparently, Lucy can hear that worry in your voice because her eyes shift from Alex and Lena and settle on you. They are warm and open and so understanding that you know why Alex is dating this madwoman. âKara, I promise I wonât harm her.â
You nod and you are about to tell her how grateful you are your sister found in their relationship such comfort that she started being so bratty when Leeâs overjoyed squeal reaches your ears.
âKara!â
You look up just in time to see Lena jumping down from the catwalk⊠if you didnât know that Lena actually enjoys jumping off buildings, you would be so freaked out. But, right now, you were kind of expecting her to do this.
You meet her halfway on her descend, letting her enjoy the free fall for a couple of seconds. âOne of these days I wonât catch you,â you growl at her with no real heat as you lower her easily to the ground. Her arms are around your neck and she is looking up with a big smile.
âNo biggie,â she says with a shrug, letting go. âAlex will catch me.â
Once your feet touch down, you look up too.
Alex is holding the ends of what you see are mechanical wings and the reason that she is in her underwear is now evident: her arms and legs are encased in soft leather with more metal feathers and over her head, she is wearing that strange skull you saw before. The wings are designed so the movements of her arms make the metal wings move, almost as if she was a little kid playing being a bird⊠even her feet are in what looks like clawed shoes.
âDonât you dare jump!â Lucy calls her.
âItâs gonna work!â Alex yells back.
âIf you jump; your ass is mine!â
âMy ass is already yours, dimwit!â
âYou know what I fucking mean!â
âI canât hear you!â
âAlex, NO!â
You can almost hear your sister think the âAlex, YES!â as she leaps.
Lena is jumping in joy besides you and you start hovering in preparation to catch your stupid sister.
But, just a second after jumping, Alexâs pushes a button on each hand and the machine comes to life.
Itâs clumsy, itâs noisy and itâs so stiff, but your sister starts flapping and she manages to hold on the air for a really long second. Her tongue is poking out between her lips and you see her brow wrinkled in concentration. There is no air within the hangar, but after flapping hard, she somehow manages to find a way to glide down a little and it is then when her fun starts.
âSee?!â She yells as she starts gliding in wide circles. âIâm flying!â
âNo, youâre not!â Lucy yells. âYouâre simply putting off your death!â
âThis wonât kill me!â
âBut I will! Come down here!â
You shake your head and hover up to fly alongside Alex. âShe is spitting mad,â you tell her quietly.
Alex is finally close enough to the ground that she can easily see Lucyâs red, annoyed, face. Your sister winces and you refuse to feel any empathy towards her. âFuck⊠I thought she was bluffing. Sheâs really pissed.â
You stare at her, shocked. âShe called me in, Alex. She passed pissed an hour ago.â
Alex turns watery eyes to you and the pout on her face shouldnât be that pitiful. âNo, nuh-uh. Nope. Donât look at me like that. You made her mad, you face her.â
âKaraâŠâ she whines.
âDamn it, Alex, she is your girlfriend! You shouldnât like making her mad!â
Alexâs pout is replaced by a smug smirk. âI like her mad.â
âAlex!â
Her smirk softens at your exasperation. âReally Kar, she doesnât get mad-mad⊠Rao, I hate making her mad-mad⊠but, like⊠I enjoy pushing her and she enjoys it too.â She fumbles a bit with her wings, making a wide turn so you can keep gliding easily. âShe likes it when I donât listen⊠I mean, she could override my commands at any time and she could really force me to come down with one word⊠but she let me do this⊠so.â She almost shrugs before remembering that could possibly be a bad choice when she is using wings so high from the ground.
You frown, confused. âThen why she would call me?â
âShe is a drama queen.â
You snort. âSo, you are indeed made for each other.â
âHey! Iâm not a drama queen!â
âNo, you are just dramatic.â
The lazy circles around the hangar bring you closer and closer to the ground and closer and closer to a tiny angry Director.
Alex is all smiles when her feet touch the ground and she makes a stupid flourish to Lenaâs clapping, bowing reverently to an imaginary crowd. Her bowing is interrupted, though, when a loud smack is heard and Alex jumps a foot forward mid reverence.
âDamn it, Alex!â Lucy snarls. âThat was stupid and reckless!â
Alex turns to face her girlfriend, a pout back in her face. She is rubbing her left butt cheek where Lucy just slapped her. âI didnât dieâŠâ
âBut you will wish you did the moment Iâm done with you.â Lucy grabs Alexâs forearm and she starts marching her to the exit.
âBut the prototype worked!â
âYou werenât authorized to use it or even fix it!â
âBut-â
They are no longer within sight, but you can almost see how Lucy spanks Alex again. You can hear it clearly and you know that Alexâs complains will be shut down now.
âSoâŠâ Vasquez says. âI donât call Director Jâonzz?â
You shake your head. âI donât think so, no. Let Lucy deal with her.â
Lena snorts. âShe wonât be able to sit for a week.â
âTry a month,â Vasquez mutters
Lena nods with a grin on her face.
You look at them and sigh. You donât get it. You donât.
But, you also donât want to get it.
So, you donât ask.
âAlex!â
You sigh and turn to Lena. âWant to get out of here?â You ask her, pleading her with your eyes. You donât want to be around for Alexâs next round of stupid.
Lena smiles. âSure.â She wraps her arms around your neck again and lets you take her weight. âTake me home, Supergirl.â
âAlexandra!â
Alexâs delighted laughter is the last thing you hear before you flee with Lena in your arms.
And you smile. Maybe Alex changed after started dating Lucy, but she changed for good.
She is happier, more relaxed and overall at ease.
Yeah, itâs good she is dating Lucy.
Even if you donât get how their relationship really works.
It hadn't taken her very long to learn English, the Kents were very kind and patience with her as they taught her but now Kara was refusing to talk to anyone in the Danvers Household. She felt betrayed by her cousin, the only other remaining Kryptonian in the universe. She felt betrayed because he'd sent her away to live with someone else and Kal didn't even know how to speak their native language. English just felt so strange on her tongue, it was like a forbidden language she shouldn't have any business knowing but she'd been forced into it. In her irrational, terrified teenage mind if she continued to speak English it would mean the end of her reaming ties to her home world leaving Krypton lost to her completely. She could do the school work she just didnât want to open up her mouth and speak to anyone.
Kara jumped when the front door slammed shut and Alex stormed up the stairs to their bedroom. Kara could feel that something was wrong before she'd even heard Alex crying. She had no idea what possessed her to follow but she carefully climbed the stairs then paused outside the bedroom door. Alex had seemed so cold and angry all the time. Kara was starting to wonder if the other girl was capable of other emotions, she didnât understand teenagers even though she was one, especially not earth ones. This was the first time she'd seen Alex shad tears, Alex was hurting and Kara knew all too well about hurt it made her stomach twist.
Kara had stood there for a few minutes before she found herself opening the door before she had a chance to retreat. Kara told herself it wasn't a mistake, there was no one else home and she couldn't bare the thought of the other girl wallowing in misery alone. She'd expected Alex to scream at her, scream the way she would at Eliza when they'd argue. When Eliza would follow her into the room intruding on her privacy all hell broke loose, but nothing came. Kara sucked in a breath, ushering herself forward to where Alex was slumped on the bed, crying into her pillows.
âAl-ex,â It wasn't much more than a raspy whisper, but she'd spoke. She heard the older girl sniff, watched her wipe her face in her shirt sleeve and turned to her.
âGo away,â It was far less menacing then Kara was used to, with far less intent behind it. Kara sat on her bed across from Alex and tried again.
âAlex...â Kara's voice was still soft but she had made it sure this time.
âWhat? You're actually going to talk?â Alex chuckled, and thought it over. Kara nodded her head.
âYou know what? My friends are fucking lame, they went to the movies without me and we'd been waiting for this one to come out for months. Do you know who they went with? Those god damn boys, the ones at school who've been calling you freak because you don't talk to anybody...because they think you're a weirdo.â
âI-I I'm sorry,â Kara looked down at her feet, her brow crinkling. Maybe this was a bad idea after all. It was her fault Alex was upset and her friends had been mean to her.
Alex sat up on the bed and ran her fingers through her hair trying to fix it, taking in the other girl who looked small and wracked with guilt. Alex let out a sigh.
âIt's not your fault,â Alex offered. She watched as Kara get up, cross the space between their beds and sat next to her. Kara was making an effort. She should too.
âBitches...â Kara offered, hoping it was the right term. She'd heard Alex say it all the time. Alex let out a snort laughing at Kara's words, Kara giggled along too.
âDamn right, those bitches!â Alex agreed, with the brightest smile she'd ever offered Kara.
âI think I need new friends...â Alex sighed.
âI-I could m-melt their s-shoes?â Kara suggested, completely seriously.
âOh my god!â Alexâs tiny frame shook with laughter.
âI'd love that but we'd be in so much shit! I'd never see the light of day again after that! You could just say you didn't know what you were doing but I'd be dead for letting you!âÂ
âNo, I don't want you to die.â Kara teared up all of a sudden, hiding her face in her hands. She had got to get a grip on her emotions she told herself.Â
âOhh, no, no! I just meant I'd be in a lot of trouble, not actually dead, dead. I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that. No ones doing any dying.â She'd had a lot of talks with her parents, she knew Kara had nothing, had no one but them. She knew she should make a better effort and the kids at school were really pissing her off she wasnât going to stand for it any longer. Kara needed her.
âNo one's dying.â Kara repeated, revealed. English was still so weird to her, it would take a while to fully grasp it's many different meanings for how things were said.
âLook, I know I've been an ass, I'm sorry. But if you promise to try and talk to me a bit more, we can try to be friends, okay? Hey, I know you're always hungry Mom left some money for us to order pizza. You've had pizza before, right?â Â
âWhat's a pizza?â Kara asked, as she followed after Alex who stood up making her way for the door, and downstairs. Alexâs eyes went wide and she held onto Karaâs shoulder bracing herself.Â
âTrust me, it's the best thing you'll ever eat in your entire life!â
âI will trust you!â Kara nodded, so innocent in her words and eager to be Alex's friend, sheâd go along with anything.
They stat on the couch with their pizza and Alex flicked through the t.v. stations until she found a movie. She wasn't sure what Kara would like but she picked something funny this time, last time Kara had a bad reaction to the action movie she'd picked out and she didn't want the other girl to panic this time they were having a nice hour and a half between them.
âThanks again for starting to talk to me, Kara. We donât have to tell my Mom and Dad if you donât want to. Your English isn't even that bad.â Alex gave Kara a playful nudge with her elbow.
âThank you. I-I learn things fast. I-I'm scared t-to speak English, afraid I'll forget Kryptonian...â Kara finally admitted and took her first bite of pizza, and gasped.
âThis tastes p-perfect!â Kara teared up and rubbed at her eye with a balled up fist. Her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
âWell, how hard can it be? Why don't you teach me? And I'll keep helping you with your English. That way you won't be the only one who knows Kryptonian and I can remind you.â Alex couldn't help but laugh.
âI know! I cried too the first time I had pizza. No sweat, okay?!â They both giggled.
âY-you w-want to l-learn? For me?â Kara asked, looking at Alex with hope in her eyes.
âSure! Why not?! I'm ahead in all my school work anyway. It's so stupid! Iâm just so bored all the time! Itâs why I get into so much trouble.â
âYou're really smart,â Kara nodded, and dared to give Alex a hug in all her excitement about teaching Alex the language of her fallen home-world.
âThank you, Alex!â Â Instead of pushing her away as Kara had feared, Alex hugged her back.
âWe can start after this movie if you want.â Alex mussed Kara's hair.
âNow, eat your pizza it's getting cold!â Kara smiled a bright smile and did just that.
Kara felt hope in her heart for the first time since she'd landed there that maybe she wasn't really alone. She had the sense that maybe Alex wouldn't abandon her like her cousin had.
So... really, really late with this but oh well. Danvers sisters week Day #3 - Nerd sisters
Summary:Â Alex really didn't see the fuss about a book about a boy wizard. At least, not until she acquired a new sister with a different perspective.

Alex received the first book for her tenth birthday from some family member or another that she hardly ever saw. Certainly one that didnât know her very well, in Alexâs opinion. Otherwise they would have given her a book about astronomy or physics or even history rather than some fiction book about a kid wizard. She dutifully read it, though, if only so she would understand what the other kids at school were talking about. Mostly she just thought Hermione made the most sense and didnât need those silly boys mucking up her life.
When her mother asked if she wanted the second one the following year, Alex declined.
The kids at school kept going on about the books like they were the best things ever. Alex begged to differ. She was positive that Carl Sagan was an infinitely better reading choice.
She had to admit, she was mildly intrigued when she heard that Hermione got to slap someone in the later books. And that there was apparently a werewolf. But not enough to ask for the rest of them. Besides, The Elegant Universe came out the same year and Alex was too busy learning about string theory.
Then she suddenly got a new sister. And not just any sister. An alien sister who had just lost her entire world and whose powers regularly left her overwhelmed and who couldnât quite seem to figure out how to fit in at school. And on the one hand that was so cool and on the other hand it was not at all what Alex had in mind when she said she wanted a sister.
Kara was hiding in their room, as she had taken to doing every day since starting at Midvale Junior High. Alex had just received stitches four days before and Kara had started wearing new glasses. Ever since that incident, Kara had spoken even less at home, especially not to Alex, having apparently decided that Alex must hate her.
Alex sighed, looking down at the book in her hands. Given it had only been read once, it was still in pristine shape. She still wasnât entirely sure what to think about this alien that had, almost literally, crashed into her life but she couldnât just⊠leave her and let her hurt. And, well, Alex knew she liked new books when she was upset so maybe Kara would too. Taking a deep breath, she knocked softly. âKara?â
There was silence then a very hesitant âYeah?â
âCan I come in?â
ââŠOkay.â
Slowly Alex pushed open the door, trying not to make too much noise in case Kara didnât have her glasses on. Kara was sitting on the floor by her bed and looked up when the door opened, glasses firmly in place. âHi.â
Alex smiled slightly. âHi. Can I sit with you?â
Kara nodded slowly, brow crinkling just a little in obvious confusion.
Alex sat down carefully so as not to jostle Kara. âI um, I know you think Iâm mad.â Karaâs eyes opened wide. âBut Iâm not,â she hastened to add. âI mean, I was. But, uh, not anymore. And um, well, I donât really know what you like to do when youâre upset but books cheer me up and uh⊠here.â She practically shoved the copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcererâs Stone at Kara. âItâs fiction, um, not real, but I thought maybe youâd like it. And a lot of the kids at school⊠they like it. So maybe if you read it you could, uh, youâd have something to talk to them about.â
Kara was still gazing at her with wide eyes and Alex shifted uncomfortably. Really, they hardly knew each other but this was what sisters did. Right? Right.
When Kara didnât speak Alex shrugged awkwardly and stood back up. âWell, uh, yeah. I just wanted to say I wasnât mad. The scar is actually going to be kind of cool. And um, to give you that. So⊠let me know what you think.â She nodded. âRight. Iâll⊠get out of your hair, Kara.â
She had just reached for the door to close it behind her when Kara finally spoke again. âAlex?â
Half turning, she cocked her head slightly. âYeah?â
Kara smiled tentatively. âThank you. For not being mad. And for the book.â
Alex smiled back, just as tentative. âYouâre welcome. I⊠I hope you like it.â
Kara did like it. Loved it in fact. Their mom picked up the next four on the way home from work the next day. In just a few days Kara had devoured them all and plopped herself next to a studying Alex with a curious and concerned look on her face.
Alex glanced over curiously before returning her attention to her book. âWhatâs up, Kara? Iâm trying to study.â
âArenât you a week ahead?â
Alex sighed but smiled ruefully. She looked up again, turning in the chair to face her sister. âYeah, I am. Whatâs up?â Things had smoothed out a lot between them over the past several days and Kara had quickly seemed to grasp that Alexâs ideal situation was to be well ahead in all her classes. They hadnât exactly started sharing a lot about themselves but Kara had at least stopped hiding away and appeared to have accepted that Alex wasnât mad. Mostly Kara would just do her homework and then read her books in the same room while Alex studied ever further ahead in her classes, the most advanced ones the school would allow her to take at her age.
Karaâs brow furrowed slightly and she now looked a little upset, as if whatever she wanted to ask was bothering her more and more the longer she dwelled on it. Alex cocked her head slightly, studying her younger sister in concern. âKara?â
âWhy does Harry always have to go back to the Dursleys?â Kara blurted out.
âUm...â Alex scrambled for an answer, grateful for her good memory so she could even remember who the Dursleys were. âBecause theyâre his family I suppose.â
âBut theyâre so mean! And Harry is so upset! Why does he have to go with them instead of someone else? Itâs not right!â
Alex grabbed Karaâs hands which had started to flail a little. âWhoa, whoa. Calm down. What do you mean itâs not right?â
âBecause he just lost Sirius and everyone was so mean to him and now he doesnât even get to stay with people he likes andââ
Alex was lost but she tried desperately to calm Kara down. She really didnât need a superpowered panic attack right now. Last time that had happened they had lost a chair and two throw pillows to abrupt heat vision. âHey, hey. Just breathe. Itâs ok, Kara. Itâs ok. There you go.â Slowly Karaâs breathing regulated. Alex studied her thoughtfully, setting aside the confusing ramble for a moment. âYou really liked those books, huh?â
Kara looked at her in surprise, momentarily distracted from whatever had upset her. âWell, of course! Donât you?â
Alex shrugged slightly and asked, avoiding the question, âWhat makes you like them so much?â
Kara looked at her suspiciously for a moment, clearly not missing that Alex had refused the answer. But she didnât call Alex out on it, at least for the moment. âHarry reminds me of me,â she stated simply. âLosing everything. Being left with the Dursleys without a choice. Not fitting in.â
Alex stiffened. Sure, she may have only read the one book and that years ago but she did remember the Dursleys and Harryâs situation. Theyâsheâhadnât been that bad to Kara had she? Carefully she tried to extract her hands from Karaâs. âOh. I see.â She couldnât entirely keep the edge out of her voice. Sure, things hadnât been sunshine and roses but surely it wasnât that bad. But maybe it was from Karaâs perspective. Maybe she was as horrible an older sister as Dudley was a cousin.
But Kara was rambling again, not even seeming to have noticed Alexâs reaction. âObviously itâs not exactly the same. I didnât have to go live with someone like the Dursleys for one. But see? Harry finds a family at Hogwarts when he didnât think he would and I found one here when I didnât think I would. And he doesnât fit in all the way even at Hogwarts and I donât either. But he managed to find friends and a family and his godfather and be a hero! And it justâŠâ She trailed off, seeming to run out of steam. It was the most Alex had heard Kara speak about what it was like coming to Earth and moving in with the Danvers family. âIt reminds me of me and that maybe I can do that too eventually,â she finally added.
Alex sat back a little in surprise. From that point of view she definitely could see why Kara loved the books so much. âOh. That⊠that makes sense.â Alex cast about for something else to say. âWhat was your favorite part?â
Kara shrugged a little. âI donât know. Maybe the part where he finds Sirius. But thatâs also sad because he doesnât get to go stay with him. I also really liked the part where his friends come with him to the Ministry even though it was dangerous and he tried to stop them.â
Alex tried to act like she had a clue what Kara was talking about but Kara seemed to still remember Alexâs evasiveness prior and cocked her head slightly. âWhatâs your favorite part, Alex?â she asked abruptly.
âOh⊠um⊠well, the parts you just said are really good⊠I, uhâŠâ
Kara smiled a little sadly. âYou havenât read them have you?â
âI⊠well, no. I read the first one but⊠no, not the others.â
âOh.â Kara was silent for several seconds. âThen why did you give me the first one to read? Why not one of the things you like?â
Alex shrugged a little. âI didnât know that you wanted to read about string theory for fun and relaxation. Besides, like I said, now you have something you can talk to some of the kids at school about. Help you fit in. Maybe find your Hermione and Ron or something. We donât have to like all the same things.â
Kara seemed to consider this before nodding. âOk. Thanks, Alex.â
Alex smiled. âNo problem, Kara.â
Alex studied the colorful covers arranged neatly on Karaâs bookshelf in their shared room. Kara had continued to love and read (and reread) the Harry Potter books over the years though sheâd never really talked about them much with Alex after that initial attempt. Alex did know that Kara had found some friends at school who liked the books. Part of why Alexâsânow exâfriend Josie considered Kara an unpopular dork. But now it was winter break her senior year, Alex was already accepted into Stanford and, well, after recent events she found herself wanting to actually get closer to Kara rather than sticking with the status quo of âsiblings who generally like each other.â
Alex was fairly confident Kara wouldnât mind her borrowing Karaâs copies. They had loaned each other books before after all. Mentally making a note to still be careful with the books, Alex grabbed the first one and settled on to her bed to start reading. Maybe with Karaâs perspective sheâd enjoy the books more this time around.
Alex was right. Rereading the books with the insight into Karaâs perspective on them made them far more enjoyable. She doubted sheâd ever really adore them the way Kara did but she could see why so many people were obsessed with the books. And, she conceded, they were very good. She still firmly believed Hermione was the best but had found herself engrossed in the story of Harry and how he handled the increasing stakes, particularly in the later books.
Once finished she plopped herself on the couch next to her sister with a sly smile. Their mom was at work, her last day before the holidays, and Kara looked at Alex askance. âHey, Kara.â
âHey, Alex.â Karaâs tone was confused. âWhatâs up?â
âI was just curious⊠do you think Snape is really evil? I mean, he killed Dumbledore and all butâŠâ
Kara blinked. âWhat? Wait⊠you read them??â
âYeah, well⊠you really like them so⊠I thought Iâd give them another chance. Theyâre good.â Alex smiled.
Kara paused as if processing before her face broke out into a wide grin. And then she was off, asking a million questions about Alexâs opinions. âWhoâs your favorite character? I bet itâs Hermione, huh? I really like Remus. And of course Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Oh! I bet you really like McGonagall, too, huh? She seems like such a good teacher! Itâs too bad Harry couldnât have been raised by her!
What did you think about Sirius? It was so sad when he died, wasnât it? What about the Half-Blood Prince? Did you realize it was Snape? Do you think heâs actually evil? He did help Harry a lot but heâs also so mean! And what he did to Remus! But maybe heâs just mean but still a âgood guyâ? Oh! And what about Harry and the snake! Do you think Harry might be a horcrux too? Or is it just because of the scar like Dumbledore said? I think Dumbledore should have been training Harry in occlumency donât you? Snape was the worst choice!â
Alex laughed. âWhoa, Kara slow down. Yes, Hermione is my favorite. Now if you could repeat questions two through one millionâŠâ
Kara blushed and dropped her head slightly, smile dimming. âSorry, Alex.â
Alex frowned. âNo, hey, itâs fine, Kara. I just didnât catch all the questions. Iâm happy to talk about the books with you; thatâs why I told you Iâd read them. I canât guarantee Iâm as enthusiastic about them as you but I liked them.â
Kara grinned again. âWe have to watch the movies! And the next one comes out this summer! So does the last book!â
Alex chuckled. âSure, Kara. We can do that.â She settled more comfortably on the couch. âSo, what were the rest of your questions?â
Karaâs grin seemed to brighten if that was even possible as she delightedly launched back into her questions, albeit at a more reasonable pace. By the time Eliza arrived home, she found both girls ensconced in the couch, good naturedly debating the changes made from the book to the movie version of Sorcererâs Stone.
When Alex received a handmade scarf in Ravenclaw colors from Kara for her birthday, she smiled and wore it proudly, if only because her sister had made it. When the seventh book came out, Alex went to the midnight release with Kara only slightly begrudgingly, wearing her scarf (at Karaâs insistence). Alex didnât necessarily mind picking up their copies of the book at midnightâone regular and one deluxe editionâbut she also hoped they didnât have to spend forever at the bookstore. While Kara was certainly going to stay up all night reading her copy, Alex just wanted to get some sleep and read it the next day. But Kara was so excited and Alex had a hard time telling her no, especially after how much closer they had become over the past six months.
Only a couple weeks later, Alex was sighing and shifting her weight in boredom next to a nearly vibrating Kara as they waited for the midnight showing of the fifth movie. Alex figured it was the least she could do since she would be leaving for college in just over a month and Kara would have to go back to Midvale High for her junior year. Things may have gotten slightly better for her sister but Alex knew Midvale High wasnât exactly Karaâs favorite place. Even if Kara had gotten much better about human interaction, small towns werenât exactly known for moving forward or forgetting first impressions. So here she was, standing in line at eleven pm waiting for theater doors to open. At least book 5 was one of her favorites, though not quite as much as book 4. And, she had to admit, she was curious how they would handle Umbridge and the DA.
Over the years it became one of her and Karaâs go-to topics of conversation. Happily rehashing old theories and newly noticed details. Alex had laughed but took the Pottermore quiz as soon as it was available at Karaâs insistence, protests of working on her thesis falling on deaf ears. Seeing Kara glow upon realizing that her instinct that Alex would be a Ravenclaw was right made it worth it. Even if Alex had to ignore the niggling voice that told her it had been far too easy to game that quiz to make sure it would place her where she knew would make Kara happiest but⊠not necessarily where was most accurate.
When Kara happily bestowed an official Ravenclaw scarf on Alex one year for Christmas, Alex had just grinned a little and returned the favor with a Hufflepuff scarf and replica of Harryâs wand. It was Alex who took the new Pottermore quiz first, grinning a little to herself upon being resorted into Slytherin. Kara was outraged until Alex had pointed out that Kara, of all people, should have realized Alex was a Slytherin upon the revelation of the DEO and Alexâs actual job. Kara huffed but conceded, still seeming a bit put out that her sister was âevil.â Kara, naturally, was promptly returned to Hufflepuff.
âSo what about everyone else?â
Alex rolled her head on the back of the couch so she could see Kara better. âWhat about them for what?â
âHouses!â
Alex blinked, momentarily confused. One minute they were watching Homeland the next Kara was talking about houses. âLike Hogwarts?â
âNo like HGTV,â Kara deadpanned. Alex rolled her eyes with a smirk; she had taught Kara sarcasm well. âYes, like Hogwarts.â
Alex chuckled. âOk, ok. Whatâs the house for âhides under tables?ââ she asked innocently.
Kara narrowed her eyes at her sister. âWhy? For whoâfor Winn? Alex! Thatâs mean!â
âAnd yet accurate.â
âAlex!â
Alex laughed, taking a bite of ice cream. âFine. Winn is a Ravenclaw, obviously.â
âLike you.â
Alex arched an eyebrow. âPottermore was quite clear Iâm a Slytherin.â
âYou canât possibly want to be a Slytherin!â
Alex shrugged. âWhy not? Itâs fitting.â
âNo itâsââ
âKara. I spent two years lying to you and everyone else about what I did in order to protect you. And I would do it again. Whatever it takes to keep you safe. It fits.â
Kara huffed. âFine. So, Winnâs a Ravenclaw. I agree.â
âSo glad.â Alex smirked, snagging another bite of ice cream, making sure to get a large chunk of brownie, before her sister could swipe the carton. âBesides,â Alex grinned slyly, âCat Grant is definitely a Slytherin also.â
âWhat? No sheââ Kara paused then huffed again. âOk, fine, yes she is.â
Alex laughed. âNot all Slytherins are evil.â
âYeah, yeah. What about Jâonn?â
âWhat do you think?â
Kara studied the ice cream thoughtfully for a long moment. âYou know him better than I do.â
Alex nodded. âTrue.â She considered the question. âHufflepuff I think. Maybe a Gryffindor. But I think a Puff ultimately.â
Kara grinned, nudging Alex with her toes. âLike me. Now weâre even.â
Alex nudged back with a smile. âTrue. James?â
Kara blushed and looked back down at the ice cream. âOh, um.â
âYou know him better than I do.â
âClark knows him best,â Kara pointed out unnecessarily.
âClarkâs not here.â Alex nudged her sister again, grinning. âBut feel free to take any statements heâs made into account.â
âOk fine, fine. Hufflepuff.â
âAww like you? Convenient,â Alex teased. Kara made as if to grab one of the throw pillows and Alex laughed. âOk, Iâll stop teasing about your crush.â
âSo thatâs what, three Hufflepuffs? We win!â
Alex rolled her eyes but laughed. âAnd two Slytherins. Winn is all by his lonesome I guess.â
âHe can hang out with the Hufflepuffs.â
âWhat? No! Slytherin gets him so the numbers are even!
âYou canât just claim him!â
âYou just did.â Alex grinned smugly as Kara opened her mouth to respond then closed it.
âThatâs⊠thatâsâŠâ
âThe exact same thing? Mmhmm.â
This time Kara did hit Alex with the pillow, laughing. âOk, fine. Slytherin can borrow Winn.â
âOh youâre so gracious.â
âWhat about Clark?â
Alex exchanged a look with Kara as they both said âGryffindorâ before laughing. Kara continued, still chuckling, âYeah, Gryffindor for sure. Lois?â
Alex shrugged. âRavenclaw with Winn I bet.â
Kara pondered that before nodding. A passion for knowing what was true definitely fit her cousinâs investigative reporter girlfriend quite well. âSo Winnâs not alone, I guess.â
Alex chuckled. âGuess not. Clark is though.â
Kara waved a hand with a grin. âHeâll be fine. He would just hang out with James and Lois anyway. Hufflepuffs still win.â
Alex rolled her eyes and settled back into the couch. âSure, Kara. Whatever makes you happy.â
Kara lightly whapped her with the pillow again before cuddling into Alexâs side. âYep.â
Alex laughed softly and draped her arm around her sister. âI think we missed half the episode.â
âSo hit rewind.â
âYou have the remote.â Said item immediately landed in her lap. Alex rolled her eyes again. âOh, my mistake, I have the remote.â She felt Kara nod against her side and grinned, knowing her baby sister was also grinning. Gently squeezing Karaâs shoulders, Alex picked up the remote so they could properly watch their episode.
Despite the occasional good-natured rant about Alex being a Slytherin, Kara immediately bestowed a silver and green scarf upon Alex for her birthday. And she seemed to take a perverse sort of pleasure in being able to use it as a good-natured insult whenever Alex did something Kara didnât approve of. That summer, Kara surprised Alex with tickets, courtesy of Cat Grantâs reputation, for Cursed Child and both sisters gleefully donned house scarves and flew Supergirl-express to London to watch it. And when Winn tried to tease her about it, a swift glare and quiet threat made him spin back around and never bring up the topic again (except to give Alex a wand remote control for her tv as a gag gift that Christmas. No one needed to know that Alex occasionally entertained herself by actually using it).
