âAlex no!â Â âAlex yes!â
The teams of agents were leaving the building, and Lena could finally take a moment to breathe.
They had asked her a lot of questions, and she had answered to the best of her ability.
Yes, someone had tried to kill her. No, she wasnât injured. No, she didnât know who had ordered it. Yes, she knew a lot of people who had the motive and the means to do it. No, she hadnât jumped. The largest guy had pushed her off the balcony when she disarmed him. Yes, Supergirl had made it on time and brought her back to her office before dealing with the thugs. No, she was absolutely sure she did not need to go to the hospital.
Just as the annoying agent who had been questioning her finally turned around to leave, they both heard two gunshots go off on one of the floors below, shortly followed by the sound of breaking glass, and the familiar swoosh of Supergirlâs flying. The agent still with her tensed up, but a moment later they both saw Supergirl come up to the balcony holding Agent Danvers by the back of her tactical vest. The agent was grinning like a cat that had just caught a particularly fat bird, and Supergirl looked very, very annoyed.
âYou!â she pointed at the agent in her office, who suddenly looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Go down three floors and help the others arrest the two jerks that just showed up. Iâll be there in a second to fly them back to the DEO.â
The guy left almost at a sprint. Supergirl dropped Agent Danvers none too gently on the balcony and then, surprisingly, turned to Lena with an incredibly frustrated look in her eye.
âYou, go sit on your desk. And youâ she turned to Agent Danvers, somehow looking even more frustrated, âgo sit next to her. Both of you wait here, Iâll be right backâ
With that, the girl of steel took off, and Lena turned what was probably an extremely bewildered look on Agent Danvers. She was even more confused to see the agent didnât look surprised or worried at all. No, Agent Danvers was still looking completely smug.
âShall we then?â
With that, she walked in and took a seat at Lenaâs desk. The way she was walking, Lena wouldnât have been surprised to see her lean back and put her feet up on the desk. Before Lena could ask anything, she heard the telltale sound of Supergirl landing back on her balcony. She let herself in and raised an eyebrow at Lena, who realized she was still standing and still had no idea what was going on. When she saw that Agent Danvers also staring at her, she decided to just go with it, whatever âitâ was, and finally went back to her chair.
âBoth of you have to stop before you give me a heart attack. I cannot be everywhere all the time, so stop jumping off buildingsâ
Supergirl had crossed her arms and was glaring at both of them in turns. Danvers exchanged a look with Lena, who was now more surprised than confused, and then turned back at Supergirl with a chuckle.
âTechnically, Luthor here didnât jump. Those boneheads pushed her.â
âSame difference! Stop jumping, falling, or getting thrown off of buildings, planes or helicopters. And Alex, you DID just jump!â
âYeah, but I caught the bad guys didnât I? Plus, I knew you were right thereâ
âThatâs the point! What if I hadnât been?â
Having decided it was time she stepped in, Lena interrupted whatever it was that Agent Danvers had been about to say.
âBut you were, Supergirl. Both times apparently.âÂ
Both women turned to look at her, seeming to remember just now that there was someone else in the room, but Lena only had eyes for Supergirl,
âYou have been there every time I have fallen. When I have been pushed, and when my helicopter went down, and even when I was supposed to have been on the Venture, you would have caught me.â
Supergirl was suddenly looking a bit sheepish, and a bit more calm, so Lena kept talking.
âI am very sorry to have worried you. I will be more careful in the future.â
Supergirl opened her mouth to answer, but before she could, they both heard a scoff coming from the window.
âOh relax Luthor. Supergirl is just overreacting a little bitâ
Somehow, the moment theyâd had their attention focused on each other, Agent Danvers had managed to sneak past both of them, and was now standing at the very edge of the balcony. Again.
âAlex no!â
Throwing a cocky wink at Lena, Danvers took a step back and off of the building. Muttering what was probably an alien curse, Supergirl jumped right after her.
Lena leaned back on her chair, chuckled to herself, and muttered,
âAlex yesâ
