Chasing History
After making some railroad images at the towers of Duplainville, Wisconsin, and Rondout, Illinois, we did some shooting of Amtrak movements from the Roosevelt Road viaduct. The sun was getting ready to set, so we headed for home, in southern Indiana.
While headed south on the Dan Ryan, we looked over to see an outbound Rock Island commuter train is pacing us. Low and behold, E6 number 630, is on point. I squeeze off a few frames looking past the nose of driver, Ron Potsch.
When we get down to where highway curves, and the Skyway splits off, Ron brakes, pulls off to the shoulder, and we jump out. We’re there just in time to get a couple shots of the glorious unit, the final slant-nose in revenue service, glide overhead—and into history.
