What's up with Pakistan. I hear a lot about India doing genocidal shit domestically and in Kashmir, as well as general pro-West foreign policy, but I know almost nothing about developments in Pakistani politics and foreign policy
I have more of a limited and macro-level understanding on Pakistan and Kashmir, so I think I pass this ask on to anyone who is more knowledgeable. What I will say is that India's influence as the regional hegemon is quite unmatched, and for all its many faults, one thing India has been able to do is develop its military enough that it is increasingly (but not like it hasn't been in the past) able to afford more nuanced foregin policy that prioritizes its material interests above everything else. I'm sure it applies more broadly but that's the basis of their relations with Russia and China, which is contingent on national interests of course but also on India acting as "rationally" under its own self-interests. Of course, I know more about this from the perspective of Nepal, which has become the stage for a power struggle between India, China, and the US+, where things are tipped more on India's favour and it both acts with and against western objectives here depending on the situation. You'd think Pakistan as the only regional actor capable of challenging India would have a greater influence but I don't think that is accurate. Sorry if this is vague but it's all I can offer you in confidence.
