AND THIS GAME IS ALL ABOUT SUBVERTING EXPECTATIONS

i know many people are happy because everyone and their dog (unless they don’t) love komaeda

but this guy was in DR:AE. He got lots of screentime in DR3. He was basically the deuteragonist in SDR2... like, you know who was shafted in despair arc? The rest of class 77. Anyone not named Hinata, Chiaki, or Nagito. I don’t even think those guys get random novels or mangas like even Hagakure freakin’ did. Meanwhile the only survivor without any appearances in the side-stuff whatsoever, Asahina, might randomly die (probably not, but this is a really stupid way of writing her out of the plot if she’s not needed or whatever what the fuck) because she got randomly shot AND THIS IS DUMB I AM OUTRAGED

I swear the creator of this series is too obsessed with their own crazy characters. When Junko shows up in Future arc in the afterlife JUST TO RECAP the story including the VERY EPISODE WE WERE WATCHING which, being the finale of this particular arc was NOT NECESSARY IN THE SLIGHTEST, i wonder what might be the point at this point. Junko was the mastermind in game one, makes sense. Her fucking AI was the mastermind in game two, sure whatever. Her AI was ALSO the final boss in DR:AE technically, and here she gets to show up when she already had tons of screentime in Despair Arc ONE MORE TIME in the FREAKIN’ AFTERLIFE of all places, being as smug and haughty as ever, as if Junko had won despite being dead and is STILL WINNING (this is not satisfying whatsoever story-wise, btw) 

JUNKO IS DEAD. PLEASE. STOP GOING BACK TO HER. STOP USING HER AS A CHARACTER. I DON’T WANT TO SEE HER ANYMORE. And now Komaeda has his own anime. Did he wake up from his coma? Is this some prequel midquel kind of thing? What did he do in-between the two games even though DR:AE pretty much covered that? What else is to know about Komaeda? The hell do we need an Anime about him?

Bah. I guess I’m bitter.

The most interesting part was that my favourite characters literally died first. I remember going “Wow I love Leon’s stupid looking design, and the orange is such a nice colour on him, Oh and I like Junko’s design and attitude, seems fitting. Chihiro is also very precious! Maizono is growing on me! I also like her design and personality--AND THEY’RE ALL DEAD WITHIN THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS WHAT THE FUCK”

Then I clung onto Alter Ego but who was executed, then randomly showed up again to save Naegi, then that eventually involved into his “little sister” Chiaki AI in SDR2 who I was convinced would not die because she was the game’s Kirigiri and why would the female protagonist die? (HA HA HA.) Then SHE was killed off and also randomly showed up later on to save Hajime. Chiaki segues into Chihiro’s dad in DR:AE possessing a very soft and kind design and character--OH and he’s dead too, and then we’re now in DR3 and it turns out Chiaki AI was based on a real person, a real Chiaki all along AND SHE GETS TORTURED TO DEATH LEADING TO HER SLOWLY BLEEDING OUT IN WHAT IS QUITE CONVINCINGLY THE MOST BRUTAL DEATH IN THE ENTIRE SERIES OH WHAT THE FUCK

Long story short do not be innocent techie cinnamon roll characters in anyway. You WILL die, though you will almost always have a huge contribution towards saving the protagonist/THE PLOT post-mortem anyway, BUT YOU WILL DIE AND IT WILL BE TRAGIC. I wonder if Ryota counts as maybe one in DR3 Future Arc, but we shall see.

... wait, a FEMALE protagonist? The setting is someplace called Gifted INMATE Academy!?!?

like there’s legit clues she might not be dead, but it would feel so bs that almost all of the new cast are dead and our DR1 kids are untouched, and that they already pulled this stunt with asahina before. 

but then if she really is dead, are these clues lying around pointless? are they just red herrings? what’s the point of showing off seiko’s cure W if nothing comes of it?

I JUST DON’T KNOW MAN. I feel no matter what happens, unless there’s some magnificent twist, episode 10 will disappoint me.

also if ryota somehow survives all of this and the rest of the new cast is dead (I don’t much like munakata, so i’m also conflicted whether or not he should live) that would be hilarious because that means everyone else is allowed to die, but class 77-B is not allowed to. The supposedly dead ones are just comatose, but none of them are genuinely dead. And it’s hilarious since they’re kind of the ones that caused all of this horror in the first place...yeah, they get to live. Woo.

and if Ryota is for real innocent, dear god the survivor’s guilt.

If it’s emotional ties to the character itself, since this whole Anime is advertised as THE END OF DESPAIR, as in this whole plot is being wrapped up, at least with these characters...well, does it matter who lives or dies? It’s the end of the story, is it not? It’s like the main character dying at the end because his story is done and he has finished it with a noble sacrifice. The only thing you’d affect is people’s emotions/feelings and the imaginary future the characters no longer have, which we can solve with AUs and such anyway...
