yes! darkness will kill you, there are monsters in the dark. to survive you need to build a fire. twigs and grass will get you through. i super suggest spending your first days just gathering basic resources while exploring the map! dont be afraid of the dark, just make sure you always have torches or at least the supplies for torches. its one of my favorite games and im excited to hear you tried it!!!

Little 11 year old me back in 2008 was on my first website where you could meet and talk to ppl. It was a drawing website which is still up I believe. Anyways I did a group drawing with a bunch of random people and someone titled the female character in the drawing "Shilo" and I thought "wow what a pretty name" so I asked them where they got the inspo for it and they pointed me to repo! So I checked it out and the rest is history.

sdlgkrh BASICALLY.... its just so much nicer to enjoy it on a smaller scale. i can Trust the few people i indulge in that interest with and boy does it make me enjoy it so much more

you can make traps to catch and kill birds later, but focus more on berries and carrots in the beginning!
