“U-Uhm, welcome… w-what drink would you like?” You stuttered, scolding yourself on the inside as you chewed on your lower lip.

She opened her lips only to close them, gaze observing you ever so carefully. Your voice and breath were caught in your throat, silence so loud that you try your hardest not to squirm under her dark eyes.

All of a sudden, a sweet smile was on her lips.

For a moment, you were enchanted, but only for a moment.

“Do you have any suggestions, perhaps?”

You realized: it didn’t fit her at all.

Not as much as the scowl earlier did.

Your breathing shallowed as you barely felt anything from your skin, muscles stiff and nose prickling in bolts. Cold. When people warned you about the weather in Snezhnaya, you could never have guessed you’d feel even worse than you already expected. You could barely even utter a complain or even a grunt. Your head spins and you could barely find yourself thinking any coherent thought in mind except for one thing. Warmth.

You did not feel it, but your lips quivered as it slightly parted to sigh a breath out, you only realized you were breathing when you saw the air come out of your mouth.

Then it came.

A voice ever so sweet, like a damsel waiting for the distressed traveler over the land full of pure white snow.

You followed the singing voice without any other thought, body blindly exhilarated and brain enraptured over its beauty and presence.

Like an angel.

You staggered as soon as you reached partly dry land, legs numb and knees buckling over that you failed to catch yourself until your gloved hands fell on the surface, steadying yourself despite your uncooperative muscles.

“You passed the test.”

Your head shot up immediately as soon as you heard the voice–the same voice that you heard not and followed, all belonging to a girl with long dark hair perched over a tree, watching you like a hawk draped on a dove’s clothing.

She smiled, but you could barely see it until you heard her giggle sweetly, hopping and landing ever so gracefully over the ground, a few steps away from you.

You could not find yourself backing away, especially not when she stepped forward and extended her small hand. By now, you could see the smile on her face, and only then did your body finally reacted, a shiver running its way to your spine without any warning.

“Welcome to the Fatui, new recruit.”
