Of all days, why was it so particularly cold today?

You swore the shop that had sold you this one thousand mora coat scammed you because this was not protecting you from the cold at all.

But you would never admit it to your lovely scientist partner, would you? He was already burdened with so much work and tons of experiments... You didn't want to give him the trouble of wasting his time just for the sake of warming you up properly. He was already holding your hand, for that matter, which was currently the only reason you weren't freezing to death. Every now and then, a small, shaky breath would leave your lips as you shivered, causing him to glance up from his notes and look at you.

The last one convinced him to shut his thick notebook and take notice of you.

"Okay that's enough." He let his scarf take his notebook, his soft purple irises settling on your face. "You've been shivering for the past ten minutes. Are you cold..?"

You cleared your throat, avoiding his gaze. "I'm not. Just..the wind's a bit chilly tonight." A cold breeze brushed your locks. "Nothing I can't handle."

"Moya lyubov', your lying skills have gotten worse lately." His scarf gently brushed against your cheek, the fingers tucking your locks smoothly behind your ear. You turned your head away, settling your gaze on a nearby bookshop.

Were you.. avoiding him..?

Oh dear, he didn't mean to offend you or anything! Was it because he was too engrossed in his notes to even check on you? Were you shivering from the time you both had left fellfrost peak for that experiment? Shit, he should've noticed earlier!

"I'm not lying. I'm fine. It's just a bit chilly." You lied smoothly, unlacing your fingers from his hand and clasping them together. Shit, you shouldn't have been so loud in your breathing. And now he noticed.

"Let's continue our walk to Glupov. I don't think Valeriy would like it if you were late."

You continued, looking at your left, only to see no one beside you. The space next to you was empty where your partner should've been. Your eyebrows furrowed.

"Mity—mmph?!"

A warm weight settled over your shoulders, causing you to gasp in surprise. Your hands unconsciously pulled the warm overcoat that smelled so much like your partner closer to you as you tried to turn, until you felt a pair of warm and familiar arms wrapping around your sides, settling on your abdomen, along with a nose pressing to the side of your throat.

"I'm so sorry, snezhinka. I should've noticed earlier." He laced his fingers with yours, bringing them up to press his mouth against your palm,. blowing hot air in an attempt to cool them down. "I was too engrossed in my notes earlier to notice you.. I didn't mean to be such a jerk, moya lyubov', please don't—"

He hadn't realised when your hand crept up and grabbed on his hair, turning your head to press your mouth against his before slowly pulling away after a short while, making the action small yet lingering. He was clearly surprised, and that much was evident in the way the pale skin of his cheeks flushed a pretty red, all the way up to his ears as he looked into your eyes.

"Mitya you needn't apologise. It's fine. I was just a little cold. And also, are you insane? Why did you take off your coat just for me?! You're gonna freeze to death in this weather!"

The energy scientist let out a soft chuckle as you shifted to tuck one side of his coat over him, making you both huddle together underneath the thick fabric. Now that you were closer to him, Mitya took this opportunity to slide his hands over the sides of your waist, pulling you onto his side and resting his palm on your abdomen. His scarf made sure to pull the hood of your coat over your head so that your ears wouldn't get too cold.

"Sorry, my love. I won't repeat this again." Was his response as he lightly pecked your cheek, warming you up all the more as you both continued your walk to the city.

And now it was so much more warmer, with your lovely scientist all close and huddled up to you. It has been days since you both ever got to spend time together like this, so why not spend it close to each other, tucked underneath one coat?
