Plans go sour, one thing leads to another, and new discoveries are made... A flat tire and broken sensor to boot had me editing photos while sitting in front of a giant tv permanently stuck on CNN...for FOUR+ hours. • My dreams of Bonfire Night/Week cake are pushed to next weekend when I can get my hands on proper British treacle and golden syrup. • So, with little energy left to the day, I craved ginger and whipped up some ginger lemon bars, using crystallized ginger, honey, and a splash of rum🍹 • The ginger and honey combo drew me back to Croatia, wherein I discovered Medenjaci cookies (some say cakes). The Croatian-American, the former Austro-Hungarian, the Dalmatian girl in me who reads my mother's recipe on stained notepaper pushes aside these possibilities. I love the simplicity of the Croatian-cum-Hungarian Punjene Paprike/Stuffed Peppers. The beautiful sauce bubbling away and slowly softening the pepper skins while simultaneously stewing the meat, allows the finished Stuffed Pepper to be served any way you like (but usually with additional rice or mashed potatoes, though the crusty bread dip works just fine)."
