    It isn’t ideal to look through checks and expenses in the dim light of the bar, but after having suffered through three days without sleep or any other basic requirement a human needs to function, Kagura’s throbbing brain is grateful for the darkness. She’s been adding these numbers up since she first started running the place as a teen. It should go perfectly well without putting too much effort into it, right? With Naraku’s out of the blue request to pay up tomorrow (what the hell is with that anyway?) it just must.

    The silence of the empty bar is cut through by the creak of the door. Fucking loud. Kagura doesn’t turn. She doesn’t have to. She knows, alone from the rhythm of footsteps, exactly who it is. Stomach churns, eyes squeeze shut in the brief time until he reaches the booth she’s been sitting at. Whatever it is, it couldn’t have come at a worst time. Although lately, she keeps saying that more and more often.

     Kagura leans back in her seat as he talks, red painted lips quirk into the smug smile she’s been wearing around him for the last couple of years, a brow arches daringly. “Sesshomaru.” His name rolls off her tongue dripping from poison. “If you have a petty feud with the wolf boy, you have to take it up with him. I hope you didn’t waste your time coming all the way here just to share an unwanted opinion.” Nonchalant she might seem, but his every word is ingrained into the back of her mind. They hurt, but she still keeps playing them over and over like a broken machine, cherry-picking the ones that will keep her awake all night.
