Dawn Elf Kuobi
Kuoba (plural, Kuobi) is a cultural practice developed in the early Third Age following the Semideucide & the Splinter Wars that followed, in order to combat a genetic neurosis which began appearing in Dawn Elf populations. This illness known as Sun Sickness is thought to have risen from an injury dealt to Daidara’s God of Mountains who governs over memory and legacy. Sun Sickness (also known as Light-ache and Suncurse) manifests as a slow deterioration of sense of self, if not provided with reminders as to one’s past deeds and triumphs in the form of a journal, or social engagement; individuals fall into exceptional melancholy if left isolated, and the process begins early after puberty as a form of progressively-worsening forgetfulness.
To battle this, clerics and scholars developed a method of tattooing concentric shapes, lines and symbols onto the pale flesh of Dawn Elves afflicted with severe symptoms of Sun Sickness that, combine with prayer, seemed to stave off the effects of their species’ illness. Rapidly developing as a social norm, an individual’s Kuobi are seen as symbols of status, health, and general prosperity. Specialized Kuobi have been developed by thieving & assassin guilds to conceal magical weapons & to house spell-effects when anointed with particular balms and oils.
Placement ranges all over the body according to specific symptoms of the Suncurse, but commonly are found on the face, ears, joints, calves, feet and hands, with the torso usually kept empty for superstitions still abound that a needle close to the heart serves only to invite an untimely end.
Quarantine ain’t no joke😂
