Started another KanKiba one shot. Telling myself it will be short and smutty, 3k, 4k words max. We will see if I can stick to that this time.
They're taking shelter from a bad storm in an abandoned ring fort in wind and Kankurou is going to catch Kiba rubbing one out, but my brain wants to ALSO talk about the storm and the fort and their preparations before we get down to the smut.

Ok the lore behind the "Don't touch anything without your name on it" rule has me cackling 😂 because they didn't make the rule the first time...it was the second time after they realized one poisoning wasn't enough to deter him.
I am so glad you got to read it!
My idea behind the "don't touch anything" for the workbench was that the first time was something Kina recognized right away - maybe even one of the poisons he studied on his first trip to Suna with Kankurou! He is medically trained now and all. The second time though, that was worse because it was one of Kankurou's special concoctions that he had been working on and it didn't have an antivenom or antidote on hand. Of course, Kankurou and the other poison users had one in the works and Kiba was safe at the end, but it's safest all the way round if he just keeps his hands to himself.

There were a few other small souvenirs she gave away until the only person left with nothing was Shikamaru. The man was watching her dispassionately, but she could sense his tension — or at least imagine it — even though his hands remained relaxed and he managed to keep an almost asleep expression. Tenten was aware there was something going on since her visit to Temari's home. No need for further explanation. Baki’s and Kankuro’s looks, Temari’s reaction… it had been enough. She was not going to comment on it, of course. It was none of her business. “Shikamaru?” Tenten said. He drew his eyebrows at her. “What?” “Kankuro asked me to give you this.” She slid a white envelope on the table. “He said you have discussed something, and he sends the information you’ve asked for.” Tenten held his gaze, hoping he would understand. He was a very smart guy, after all. A spark of curiosity flashed in his eyes. “Oh… I expected it by the mail, but this would do too. Thank you, Tenten.” She smiled knowingly. “No worries.” “I thought Temari was coming next week?” Ino frowned. “Couldn’t he have sent the information via her instead of making Tenten deal with your stuff?” Shikamaru leisurely put the envelope in his vest before turning to his childhood friend and teammate. “I have no control over Kankuro’s decisions, Ino. I don’t know why he did this instead of that. If you want to know so badly, ask him when he comes over next time.” “Yeah, sure. Because he comes over as often as Temari,” Ino replied, sarcasm cutting. ***

I feel like usually Gaara can handle it when people are a little mean to him, but I also imagine that if anyone actually hurt his feelings Kankurou and Temari would maul them to death like wild dogs.
